TBL-NSH Blockbuster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tampabaylightning1015</b></div><div>Why would Stralman get more money after a down year?</div></div>
Well, it’s a one year contract instead of multi, so the AAV would have to be higher to get the player to bite. The single year also gets money off the cap for all the RFA’s the next year, and allows them not to rush Foote. The Smith contract does the same thing in giving them money for RFA’s, since they can bring up one or two of Barre-Boulet, Raddysh, and Katchouk.

A buyout would be better. Throw in Sergachev for Subban and make it transformative. Tampa HAS to do something transformative.</div></div>
I think it would be better to just let Johnson go the next year to Seattle, but I guess you could do the same with Miller, just not sure he would have the same appeal to them. You see no regression for Point, at all? I would rather a larger sample and pay more down the line. I don’t see them slapping Kuch in the face after he bridged, but I could be wrong. Again before jumping the gun, would rather give Sergachev another year and see what’s there. Subban doesn’t make much since here in this scenario, and he’d be the buddy appeal for Stamkos to waive his NMC for Nashville.

A Different Stamkos Trade

Yeah, maybe something bigger could be worked out with our 1st in there instead of just a 2nd, but cap space is probably most valuable at this point. I don't think any core players will be traded, just role players who can be somewhat easily replaced from the AHL.

A bridge makes the most since in my opinion, to see how his shooting percentage regresses and see how he does away from Kucherov maybe.

I wonder if NSH falls in the first round too, would there be something there for Granlund++? I know Stamkos and Subban are pals from way back. Maybe something there. One can wish, right?

If he would waive for COL, this is definitely a starting point for TB to consider, maybe add an expendable RFA as well. I mean you can probably bank on him putting up 40-50 goals a year with Mac and Co.

Also, take back the 2nd rounder and give us Mitchell Stephens instead.</div></div>
It’s way off. There’s probably one player in the league I would include him in a trade for, and that player is so good we’d have to throw Sergachev and other stuff in there too.

Point is not getting more than Kuch, it would be a slap on the face. His agent has said they are open for any length contract, so expect a bridge, and then in three years time he will be our highest paid player by a lot. If he pushes for the long term security, I honestly don’t even see JBB going above Stamkos’s deal. Fans of other teams who keep being thirsty about this are not going to be happy when his deal is announced. Expect rage posts something like “Taxes, taxes, taxes.”

Honestly is this were to happen, and Sergachev plays well this season on the right side (and Cernak makes the team and plays well), maybe Foote becomes a piece in a bigger to deal to shake up the forward group for more cap flexibility?

I totally hope they can somehow get EK but I think he's going to end up staying with the Sharks. DW is not afraid to throw money around to keep guys. For the roster Johnson is pretty much a 2RW at this point, as Point is our best all-around center. I see Joseph being on the team in the bottom-6, and am not sure Raddysh or Foote will be ready that soon, but who knows. I think management might want to bring Stralman back for a year if they can manage it (he probably goes to UFA for multi-year offers though), and then bring Foote up.

Cernak looks great in a small sample this preseason, so getting rid of Girardi seems like an easy add on. Would rather just sit Koekkoek in the press box. If/when Cooper runs 7D, maybe he’s an option then to just be in there for penalty killing and such, but otherwise Cernak is looking to be better for a 12F-6D lineup imo.

NTC and state income tax was my thinking. He might have a limited list to keep him from losing money. I forget what year the lesser clause kicks in to make him more tradeable.

It’s a long-term cap move for TBL. Hanzal would be on LTIR. For this season, Girardi is not necessary, and youth injection from Volkov and Joseph would do the team well.

That’s the point, it’s a long-term move. 5 years term versus 2 years on LTIR. Helps with core signings down the road. It would help tremendously actually.

After the massive trade with Dallas
Killorn is probably not movable until 20-21 when it becomes a modified-NTC, a 16-team list that he can be traded to. Callahan’s has already become a modified-NTC, so he’s probably more likely to be moved if they are willing to add an asset to him. His actual salary is less than his cap hit too, but he has not been asked to waive.

TBL-DAL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>J_Sand3rs</b></div><div>This deal would be so much better for Dallas than trading for Karlsson. Is Karlsson better than Johnson and Girardi? Absolutely. But the Stars had the 6th best defense in the NHL last season. With Heiskanen in the mix, the Stars defense will be as good, if not better, than last years defense. The Stars don't NEED to add defense. They NEED to add a true 2C. Spezza is a wild card. Who knows if he'll bounce back this season.
The trade essentially boils down to Girardi for Spezza and Honka for Johnson.
With Girardi, Dallas gets a bottom pairing RHD to replace Honka, and he's $4.5M cheaper than Spezza.
Honka still has potential, and it would suck to lose him, but Johnson is on a team friendly deal worth $5M per year over the next 6 years! That's an insanely good price for a 2C.
Dallas would be stupid to not do this trade. It's cheaper long term, and gives us the 2C we need to make a deep playoff run this season.</div></div>
Yeah this was my thinking as well, and both have salaries drop off after the season. So for TBL, it ends up saving Girardi’s $3M plus Johnson’s $5M, which will help with the Kucherov and Point raises next year. Now to just move Killorn somehow. Haha.

I think it would take Miro, just as I think it would take Serg from us, which I would do if a reasonable extension for EK was in place.
