To clear up space for Johnny
I would do that in an instant.. but Fletcher has been unable to move JVR. He gave up hours ago and used the cap space on other (not very good) players.

Anthony SanFilippo was the beat writer, but is still well connected. Full disclosure, he is backing down from the rumor, seems most dont want to take on JVR's salary

It will be a lot more than 5 spots. Rumors are PHI/BUF are working on a JVR trade. Would think moving into the 1st round would be enticing.

Flyers get Cap Space - DET retains 50 on Bertuzzi
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey1340</b></div><div>Obviously the Flyers would try to get an extention for Bertuzzi. Having over 13.5 mil in cap space in two players, both in which aren’t worth that cap hit is not an easy buyout. The flyers want to win now and buyouts do not help winning now.</div></div>
If they create cap space (by dumping JVR), I think that money will go to Gaudreau. Local kid... grew up a Flyers fan. But getting Gaudreau and Bertuzzi would be very interesting.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MANX</b></div><div>For now Flyers pass. Broken down Anderson and 35 YOA Petry and those contracts no thanks. I will keep what I already have</div></div>
Yeah was thinking this one is a long shot. As a Flyers' fan, felt Risto should have never been extended, Oscar needs a change of scenery and Frost isn't anything more than a complimentary player to a star they haven't had in years. Pipe dream trade to move all that off for a player that Torts likes (Anderson). Tossed in Petry to make the $$$ work and hearing MTL wants to move him.

JVR has not been one of their best players, although last year he did put up better numbers. That said, they are dumping the last year on JVR's contract so they can free up $$$ to sign Gaudreau.

Flyers get Cap Space - DET retains 50 on Bertuzzi
Deal doesn't work for PHI. They could achieve the same cap savings with buyouts. Trading Provy and JVR, plus a #1 and top prospect for a goal scorer who will be a UFA in a year is a bad move.

Even with Minnesota offering up all that, no way Philly parts with their #5 overall pick.

Just budget team things
If offered, PHI needs to jump on this trade. Time to rebuild and not retool.
Giving up JVR, who may get you 20 goals, but have no intention of resigning, is worth the cap space and the first step in changing the culture. Del Zotto goes to LV or is released.
And even though JVR withstood Babcock for 3 years, I don't think in this final year of his contract, he thrives under Torts.

Agree... no clue on Provy's value. But I cannot see PHI trading their #1 D (25 yrs old) in any deal that returns 2 older NHLers. Would think PHI would take 1 NHLer, plus some grouping of Neighbors, Bolduc, Hofer (maybe) and picks. Also this proposal looks stronger if PHI gets top prospects D from COL in Giroux deal.

Giroux amp Braun
Barron and Ranta are my 2 must-haves in any deal for Giroux, and for cap reasons, prefer Jost over Compher.
If Braun is included and PHI eats 50% of the salary, more than a 1st is needed. Helleson would be too much as another kicker, but would take him and then reduce the 1st to a 3rd.

Giroux to Minnesota
Its a strong deal. However, from team perspective, each will want more.
For MIN, no way they give up all that unless Giroux signs an extension. And for PHI, if Giroux indicates he will sign an extension with MIN, the NHLer included in the deal will be something other than Rask.

DET Helps COL Get Giroux For a Fee
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IDKtbh</b></div><div>I have Detroit retaining Giroux’s salary in the trade. Plus, everything that Philly receives in the deal is coming from the Red Wings.
Colorado gets Giroux & Leddy while Detroit pays the tax on both, and Detroit also shells out a “B” defense prospect in McIsaac back to Colorado in the deal which they wouldn’t get from Philly.
I could see Giroux situation play out similar to Taylor Hall’s last year when he was adamant about going to Boston which somewhat handicapped the teams trade options.</div></div>
I agree a 3rd team may be needed to swing a deal that has Giroux landing in COL. But for PHI, a deal for G must land more than a mid-level NHLer and 2 picks. Local writers are calling offers that have 4 assets (NHLer, 2 top prospects and a pick) coming back to PHI as 'decent'.
We'll see in the coming weeks...

Avs-Flyers - 7 Player Swap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twf16</b></div><div>Morin very well may never play again and Philly has been super supportive in his rehab and keeping him involved with the team so I don't think there's any reason for his inclusion. I did not realize it was that bad for Morin. That sucks... I think he got a raw deal years ago and should have made the team.
That said, for this trade to work, Philly would need to include a 3rd player around the same salary.... unsure who.

DET Helps COL Get Giroux For a Fee
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IDKtbh</b></div><div>Giroux has his sights set on Colorado and Detroit plays middle man to not only retain salary on Giroux, but also adds a retained Nick Leddy to bolster their defense as well as one of their better Defense prospects in Jared McIsaac to replace the departing Byram.
The wings also provide all assets going to Philly by way of solid draft picks and 22 year old Zadina.
Byram is a steep price to pay for Colorado, but to acquire Giroux & Leddy and squeeze them under the salary cap all but cements them as the Stanley Cup favorite. Not to mention with the embarrassment of riches in terms of talent and big contracts, the Avs essentially flip the injured Byram for a Cup, a year or so before having to dish out another fat contract, which they have plenty of already.</div></div>
No way Philly gives up G and retains half his salary only for Zadina and 2 picks that are not 1st rounders. If Sakic is willing to trade Byrum, Philly will not offer up Giroux so DET can grab him. Given COL's salary cap issues, any Giroux deal means Philly must retain 50% of the salary and COL does not have a 1st rounder this year. Thus the trade must return 2 of Barron, Ranta, Olausson, Kaut or Annunen, plus an NHLer (Jost?) to make it worth the move.

Giroux to COL
After this weekend, Fletcher will increase the asking price for G.
Assuming COL is on his team list for a trade, he’ll ask for Compher and Newhook plus picks.
