Nah he's decent. Better suited for a second pairing roll. He's good at alot, not great at anything. Would be a good add for that price.

Don't see Dallas being interested in that as the cap savings are small. Never know though. Faksa is underrated on here.

If Utah is a buyer this offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>True, I'm just going off the assumption that the owner in Utah will want to speed up the process to be competitive. Barron and Lamoureux are actually fairly similar prospects (both former 1sts, both played for Canada at the WJ), but Barron is older and more NHL ready. The big difference is Lamoureux is waiver exempt, Barron isn't. But the difference in value between Crouse and Matheson more than makes up for it imo.
The only reach is the early 2nd rd pick. Matheson is way more valuable than Crouse. Tried to make up the difference with swapping Barron with Lamoureux and adding a pick. If anything, the pick should be downgraded or removed.</div></div>
I don't think an offensive defenseman going into his 30s is worth more than a physical two way forward entering his prime. I get Matheson has played quite well while in Montreal and has been a good leader and all that, but his defensive play isn't great and honestly they probably give PP1 to Durzi. Or if they really wanted to, sign Gostisbehere again to play a similar roll. Arizona has alot invested in Crouse and I don't think they want to move him at all.
Also with Barron, just because he is "NHL ready" doesn't mean they are going to trade a very good, very big, young RHD for an older lesser version.
Utah can easily sign a LHD if they want to go that route. They also have Kolyachonok who seems ready, that's 3 LHD on the roster.
It's very difficult to find players like Crouse, teams covet them alot.

There is something to be said about being able to go play hockey on a pond, like how it started. I personally enjoy winter, in also in one of the more coldest points in Canada that's not a northern territory. That said, the nice weather and tax benefits would probably outweigh my love for winter if I had a choice.

He's probably our best option for 3C. Veleno isn't good enough. Compher is but he has to play 2C. Rasmussen is better on the wing. Fischer is better on the wing. Kasper maybe but then you would want a guy like Copp to help mentor him. I feel like Fabbri and Maatta/ Chiarot are repetitive. Rather move one or two of those guys to shore up RHD. We were the 9th worst defensive team, we shouldn't weaken one area to help another. Move from an area of strength.

Why trade Copp? He matched his career average offensive output but had 20% more defensive zone starts.

help both teams
Detroit has two goalies and although adding a third isn't an awful idea, one at his cap hit is too much. We have our own cap issues we need to deal with and adding 4.5M more doesn't help that.

Wings have potential
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>I wont disagree with these players having value, the issue is both players value is not close to what their cap hit is. So yes, if you wanted to trade them to the sharks, the sharks would ask for some pics in return to take on the cap!</div></div>
Copp has more value to the team than people think based on his stats. If he had the o-zone starts he did with Winnipeg and New York, not many would blink at acquiring him. The funny thing is, if you look at his stats, he didn't even have a down year offensively, he is actually on par with his normal production. The difference is this year he has a career high percentage starting in the defensive zone. So the fact is, he is matching his normal point production while getting less offensive zone time. Way more valuable to the red Wings than people want to admit, they just look at point totals on here and call him a cap dump. Copp will be traded or bought out. He is very valuable to this team.
To San Jose, you can say he would need sweeteners but in all reality if Mike Grier had the chance to add a player like him, he should jump at it.

Redwings Offseason Preference - Realistic
Trading Copp doesn't seem realistic. Also this team wouldn't be better without him. He gets all the defensive assignments. We struggle enough defensively with him, losing him wouldn't help.
Montour would be great though. Really expensive in this deal.

Zegras Since the Rumors Be Rolling Neither Side Should Do This
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SLAFSQUATCH</b></div><div>Anderson, at 50% retained. Has value to every single team in the league.
I'm really starting to question Duck fans.
I understand the need to get max value for Zegras. But, is he not simply a skilled 65 point wing that lacks 200 foot game?
And yes. If somehow Caufield was somehow in trade rumours and deemed expendable. A late 1st Beck/Mesar/Baron would look pretty good as a potential return.</div></div>
Anderson at 50% is still overpaid for his production. This season he produced at a fourth line level. Most fourth liners get between league min to 2M. The ones on the higher side are likely either elite at face-offs or elite defensively and Anderson is neither of those. He's decently physical and that would be expected in that roll but at 2.75M, that's still expensive.
Zegras has the potential to be PPG+ guy. He's still young. Also he has been focusing on improving his defensive play and he has said as much. That's why Verbeek signed him to a bridge deal, he wanted to see him improve his two way game.
You would be selling low on Caufield, not that I think he's worth what most Montreal fans would think. If Caufield was available and they didn't get a high end piece in return, Habs fans would be calling for Hughes head.

Zegras Since the Rumors Be Rolling Neither Side Should Do This
I looked at your other one, which you labelled as "too much". It's not that it's not enough, in its just not the right pieces. Anaheim won't want, if there was a desire to trade him, mid pieces. They would want a high-end piece coming back. Think of Reinbacher, 2024 1st + something else, Slaf. Those are what Anaheim would be after. Think of the Gauthier trade, they sent a high end piece in Drysdale.
Josh Anderson, even at that retention, doesn't have any value and probably even less so to Anaheim. Have to remember that each team would value players differently depending on where they are at. Anderson has less than zero value to Anaheim at 50% retained.
Farrell doesn't have any value, likely not going to be a NHL player. Also not a player Anaheim would want either way.
Barron has a bit of a value, maybe a 2nd. He's the type of player you could package with your 2024 1st.
Winnipeg's 1st, Mesar, Beck all are mid type of pieces. Anaheim, like alot of teams rebuilding, have a bunch of pieces like that.
If you want a high quality player, you have to offer something of high quality in return, not just a bunch of mid stuff. Ask yourself if you would trade Caufield for that package and if you say no, that's probably your answer.

Then the instead of holl being an expensive dump he is essentially trading up 1 round to dump him and then Sturm for the “third”</div></div>
I've made that trade before. I don't hate it.

Enough or too much
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FoxYou727</b></div><div>I understand why San Jose doesn't do that. Just draft the home grown player, but in terms of value just way to much. The 5th overall + most likely a top 10 pick along with Guhle and Dach for someone who never played a NHL game? Celebrini will be awesome but he no Crosby/McDavid/Bedard</div></div>
Hence why Montreal shouldn't do it. It's too much to give up for an unproven player.
It's not enough for San Jose as I'm sure that would rather the franchise altering player. They have a few more bad years to add other good players like are attached here.
