Seabrook to oilers
Oilers are rebuilding, Hawks are contending. Neither team wants this trade. I mean, obviously the Hawks would like Klefbom for the future if it didn't cost a roster player, and the Oilers wouldn't mind having Seabrook either. But the Oilers aren't winning right now with or without Seabrook.

I say we keep Bickell!!!
21-man rosters are always questionable. You'd need to be damn effective with the call-ups. When you need a d-man, send down a forward and call up a d-man. If two guys are temporarily out of the lineup, you play with a short bench. Not to mention no options for the coach - who you got, is who plays.
I'd say Shaw is likely to go as well, if Bickell can't be moved. And maybe Kruger.

What's the difference?</i></div></div>
Not letting the Senators negotiate the terms?
Also, if I was Kruger and thought I was giving the Hawks a hometown discount so I could keep playing there (and avoid the hassle of moving to another city), I'd feel betrayed if I got traded away right after. If you had the trade already planned, NHLPA could claim it's "negotiating in bad faith".
Obviously it's not such a relevant thing when making fantasy rosters. Basically, if this trade was to happen, it'd be for Kruger's rights for that 1st rounder. And the end result would be identical.

Garbutt will be on the opening night roster, make no mistake.
Since you were already stretching our imagination with Kruger's tiny $1.5m cap hit, you couldn't make it $1.4m just so Garbutt could fit in instead of Thomas?

Versteeg alone won't shave off enough salary, and moving Bickell is probably too costly to actually pull off (Teuvo as a sweetener?).
I think there's a good chance Steeger and Shaw are both out.

You mean $950k savings, right?
14 forwards makes sense for a normal 23-man roster. Unless you want to have 8 d-men, like what Quenneville actually did most of last season.

Probably trade Shaw as well. Garbutt can do what he does. Call up two kids with the money you save. Pokka and Danault, maybe?
Realistically, I don't see room for Kruger. Trade his RFA rights for assets.
EDIT: Meant to say <em>trade Shaw</em>

You bumped a two weeks old roster. The original poster probably just edited two more players in.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>graderman</b></div><div><i>And then what?</i></div></div>
Doesn't matter. You play to win. Teams would sacrifice 29 years of mediocrity for 1 cup, because that's how the odds work in a 30 team league.
The time will come when you have to start thinking about rebuilding, and that should be around the time when Toews/Kane are past their primes and Keith/Seabrook/Hossa are already retired. Before that, it's okay to sacrifice prospects and picks for another cup run.
The alternative is to keep a good-but-not-great team, go into the playoffs and lose early every year like the Capitals. Sacrificing key players like Seabrook will mean you do get assets, and those assets will keep you in that same limbo for a lot of years. No cup runs, but a slightly better team for a few more years.

Yeah Bickell can be waived and demoted.
Anyway, why even bother re-signing Kruger in this scenario? You could play Teuvo and Dano for that money.

I'd be very disappointed if Dano wasn't on the opening night roster.
D looked devoid of depth even before trading away Daley.
Kruger also gets more than just $1.6m.

If Ehrhoff only asked for $1m, he'd be signed long ago. He might take less than $4m to play for Chicago, but $1m is just insane.

What's Bickell's injury? He is clear of vertigo.
Or does this scenario somehow involve Kevin Dineen, a balaclava and a leadpipe? A mishap at the parking lot after late night practise.

If you want cap flexibility, realistically you'd still have to move Shaw (assuming Bickell is untradeable). The bonuses count against the cap, too. And there's always the chance some of them cause overage.

If you want to win another cup in 2016, you shouldn't trade away Seabrook. Rather give up Teuvo.

Simple, but nice enough.
I'd like to see Gustafsson get some North American pro hockey games under his belt before just handing over a roster spot though. He should start in Rockford. Pokka spent the whole last season in Rockford, and is a much better prospect anyway. I think he's more ready.

15-16
McNeill is projected to be a bottom six player. But we don't even know if he is going to be an NHL-level player at all. Do the Ducks really want him so bad they are willing to basically give one of their biggest competitors $4m of extra cap room, and reduce their own cap by the same amount? Personally, I doubt it. I don't think they are out to help the Hawks. And I don't think McNeill is a sweetener significant enough.
It is possible to make the package sweet enough. But that might drain the Hawks prospect pool too much. 5 stars for the actual roster, if indeed such a deal can be worked out without gutting the Hawks. I think it's just easier to move some of the other pieces, namely Shaw, Versteeg, Kruger...

They'd get the call-up quickly if someone goes down. But I don't believe in a rookie/prospect being the 13th/14th forward and sitting out games. Let Hartman and McNeil play big minutes in Rockford. But I think Morin would be okay as a 13th forward, and playing only sometimes. Maybe even Mashinter - just dress him for games against the Blues.
