Many teams are linked to many players, Sweeney isn't more or less than the other GMs. He is conservative but it's better that instead of overpaying players like Beleskey and Backes.

It’s not a bad offer, but i think a team with a top end prospect that plays Center can beat this proposal for Eichel

Even less for Columbus. Merzlikins is exempt from the expansion draft. Columbus loses Koskinen or Korpisalo or Jones in the draft and end up trading Merzlikins for Jones and a 6th??

I would take it. Make the 2nd in 2022 conditional if the Leafs make the finals in either year, it becomes at 1st and it would be an instant yes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>What have they won this year? I'm commenting on the trade proposal and overall state of the team going forward. They have looked really good, but IMO team defense will be their undoing, thwey'll lose in the playoffs and then have trouble icing a quality 18 skater team next year. Pickups like spezza or thornton or Simmonds are always good, but the age and mileage or having all three and then adding another old age pensioner?
All back slaps if TMLF win it this year and this proposal puts them over the top, but I don't see it and acquiring more age, not just more age, but MORE AGE of another player over 35 yrs old, spells trouble ahead.</div></div>
That's why I can tell you haven't watched a single leafs game. Their defence is, right now anyway, the best in the Canadian division. Ok, that's not saying too much because this division's defence in general sucks, but at the very least, baring any big upsets (which knowing the leafs might happen lol), this team is going to make the semi finals.
As for this offseason, they will be fine. Likely, the UFA's will want to stay. If they don't, it won't be hard to get new ones. Maybe if Freddy leaves they can even get upgrades.
Also, age is a good thing as it adds experience.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>wow, talented yes, age, physicality and team defense still weak, and come next year?
four starting forwards are UFA, only account for 4.5mil of cap space and all 34 yrs old or older? Talk about a rebuild
and eight other players (including taxi squad) are UFAs. When you only have 1 starting RFA (Dermott), and 8 starting UFAs, (accounting for less than 14mil) you're in trouble. That's a lot of filler players</div></div>
Ok, so you have not watched a single leafs game in the year 2021. Good to know.
Rebuild? I'm assuming your joking, or somehow failed to know that they are first in the league?

Yeah except for the fact that he <em>is </em>being misused in an offensive role, which <em>does </em>affect his performance. He's been playing in the bottom six for the last couple games now, and has been great there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jnowariak</b></div><div>As you pointed out above, Bonino has been settling in the bottom 6 and is starting to look the part again. Not being on the power play helps you remember what he’s there for. I have a very strong feeling that first is going to go towards Granlund but maybe a 2nd/3rd and a guy like Liljegren or SDA? I get the sense TOR has soured a bit on Liljegren.</div></div>
I'm not saying you're wrong, but I think a contending team makes the centrepiece of the deal the 1st to give up the lower prospect. Beak cause of the pandemic I feel like better prospects will be more valuable to a team to call up when needed this year. If this was a regular year, yeah I'd say a mid round pick and a guy like Liljegren. But this year I feel like regardless of where Liljegren is at, he'll be valuable as a call up.
I agree that the team seems to view Liljegren a bit differently now (wrong to give up on him already, he's battled injuries and still produced at a top AHL level) but I don't think it's gone south enough to throw him away for a rental this season when it's a lower amount of games.

Just because a team is at the bottom of the standings, doesn't mean that every player on that team sucks. Minnesota has had horrible goaltending this year which is the main reason they're lower in the standings.
Also, that player that you seem to hate so much for the Leafs finished 12th in Selke Trophy last season. 12 games this season with terrible goaltending doesn't change that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Bonino has 2 assists and is getting killed defensively this year and is a 32 year old pending UFA. He isnt worth a 1st, not even close.</div></div>
He's being played above his role. He's a great 3C on a good team, they've been using him in the top 6.
Is a 1st too much? Yeah probably. But realistically he's worth a 2nd. & with Toronto being in the league lead in points right now that puts their 2nd as the last pick in the round. So any other team contending can offer just a 2nd and it would beat Toronto's. Bonino fits a need for Toronto perfectly. 3rd line shutdown centre than can win faceoffs, kill penalties and brings a ton of speed. Minnesota is a worse team so Bonino's numbers are down. It's more like Toronto paying for a need than proper value, and teams overpay all the time. Tampa traded a 1st for Barclay Goodrow. He was never worth that. But it's what Tampa needed and it got them over the hump. Same type of deal. That late 1st in a weak draft doesn't help Toronto win for minimum 3-5 years. It's much smarter to have Bonino to help them win now when he's a proven playoff performer.
It makes tons of sense for both sides actually. People on this site are so attracted to picks that may or may not work out. When your team is in a win now mode you have to get upgrades to win now or the window closers faster and you have to show your good players why they should stick around. Matthews and Marner would rather have Bonino help them win this year then a prospect that might make the league in 3-5 years and might help them win if they stick around.. that's a lot of lights just for a 17 year old kid.

You know what sucks more? Users on this site pretending to be fans of a team and then proceeding to make the team worse by trading the team's better players for less skill and bigger contracts.
The Bogonorris guy is a perfect example of this.
