f-ing around yet again
Philly won't trade Couturier he's their best center on one of the best contracts in the league and we don't need him also they paid more than that for Braun. NJ won't do that deal as Butcher is too valuable to them and they have no need for Ceci. But good try your getting better ? just try to look at other team's and our own needs more.

No Babcock needs Wilson to play big minutes on his team because he is solid defensively and plays extremely physical.

Aberg could end up being a really good signing for the Leafs, he might fit really well with their style of play and if not oh well he's a good player for the Marlies.

Marner, Mitchell 7 $10,200,000 - overpaid by about 1Mil AAV, but not the worst... so i give this grade a eh
Mikheyev, Ilya 4 $1,200,000 - crazy, we have not seen him play, and any depth player you sign 1.5Mil and under, 1-2 years tops... you can literally find them in the bargin bin every free agency
Marchment, Mason 4 $1,000,000 - crazy term yet again. 4 Mil for an unproven guy who is a depth piece at best. Bargain bin hunting if he plays over his worth
Gauthier, Frédérik 5 $1,000,000 - crazy even worse that Marchment. 4th line centers grow on tree's. We got Spezza for 700K for a year. Bargain hunt. Every 100K of savings matters from a cap Team
Dermott, Travis 5 $3,000,000 - Great COntract, I like it... keeps him locked up long term as he breaks out
Harpur, Ben 4 $1,000,000 - this guy is literally the worst. the exact opposite of what Dubas wants his Defence to be. Throw this $$$ and Term in the trash and send him to the marlies
Kivihalme, Teemu 4 $1,000,000 - WHO??? WHY the term FFS
Bracco, Jeremy 4 $1,000,000 - eh, he hasnt proven anything yet. And Again why the term. Trade him while he is a mystery box and worth more than if he tried in the NHL and failed.
Muzzin, Jake 6 $5,500,000 - Not bad signing. I would rather sign Barrie and we have Dermott and Sandin almost ready
van Riemsdyk, Trevor 6 $3,000,000 - big overpay for a 3rd pair. Also the term... jeeeeze, thats what screws teams over the most. Dubas needs flexibility and this is a big overpay.

Keep 'Trying'. I don't see anyone giving TVR a 6 year contract. He might get $3m a year, but likely on a 3 year deal

Marchment and mikheyev, 1m and 1.2m respectively on 5 year deal. Think that’s enough to get an agent to jump across the table and strangle you.

<a href="/users/Maj" target="_blank">@Maj</a> ... I like admire your dedication... just not your trades lol.
I can not see any reasonable trade where nylander leaves. Dubas is a numbers guy. He knows what nylander is due for, he knows the chemistry with Matthews and really any goal scorer. (Nylander drives pisssesion and slows down plays to allow scorers to get open) his dedication to the team and fans is sure evidence for a player to hold on to. His cap hit is fair and will be a bargain down the road.... my two cents.

CLARKSON TRADE IS MASTERFUL FOR BOTH TEAMS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Maj</b></div><div>what does full relief mean ?</div></div>
Ltir is an equation. It is there for teams right against the cap. If you have cap some ace then you do not get the full relief for the ltir player. This is why Toronto put Horton on IR last season rather than ltir. The leafs needed to pay performance bonuses last year (they carry over to the next season if you don’t have enough seasons ace the season they are earned) so they needed to keep roughly 3.8m available past season. Since ltir relief can only be used to pay player contracts and not to payout performance bonuses this means that even with Horton on ltir they would need to stay 3.8m under the salary cap. By staying that far under the cap they would not recover any relief from the Horton contract. How’s e this example gives a bit of a clearer picture on how ltir works and doesn’t further muddy things.
The main purpose of ltir is to help teams that are trying to ice the the best possible team. If a player goes down to injury and can’t play the ly are not only short that player but the cap space as well. Ltir alllows the team to replace the player with and sufficient replacement even if they were already tight against the cap before the injury.

I honestly was hoping for L. Schenn to sign back with the Leafs.
Though it seems that the Leafs are determine to make either Muzzin or Dermott a RD man. So now it's the Leafs LH 3rd Dman is the weakness. Harpur is big but slow, Marincin is...well Marincin. Maybe a Marlie Dman starts with Dermott out for a month or 2.

Can't have it both ways, Leaf haters quote Marner getting close to his 11 million $ asking price but yet Leaf haters also claim Marner isn't as good as Point or Aho. wtf >?
I think Marner should take 6 years and go into UFA with J.T. rather than 5 years and go into UFA with the other 2 young guns.
Actually the best option is take a bridge contract, wait for the new CBA contract is signed and than hit the Leafs with franchise star money.

CLARKSON TRADE IS MASTERFUL FOR BOTH TEAMS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Maj</b></div><div>Ok I understand now..... It felt confusing since Cap Friendly doesn't let you go over the limit of cap funds if you have a player in LTIR, it just deducts it...which makes it difficult to understand the Clarkson situation since it won't matter here</div></div>
<a href="/users/Maj" target="_blank">@Maj</a> <a href="/users/Bigphil" target="_blank">@Bigphil</a>
Don't feel bad. 10 minutes before the Clarkson trade I wasn't sure either. I was able to confirm with Banks in one of the forum threads how it works correctly.
LTIR is ******* complicated! My explanation above is accurate but its also still very simplified. There are other factors like ACSL that make things even more complicated.
Long story short: this trade makes the Leafs able to sign Marner now if its for max 10.5M and it gets Vegas the necessary room to be cap compliant if they decided to start the season right now.

CLARKSON TRADE IS MASTERFUL FOR BOTH TEAMS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bigphil</b></div><div>I know that but they cannot sign Marner anymore during summertime. LTIR is only good when season's open. Marner won't be able to sign until season start. I think Toronto want to precipitate an offer sheet.</div></div>
The 10 % cushion only applies to teams during the off season. The LTIR can apply at any time during the year. They are not reflective of each other. Being able to exceed the cap due to LTIR and teams having 10% cushion in the offseason are two different things.
Example - Habs could spend approx 90M in cap right now if they wanted to but by the time the season starts, they have to be at 81.5M maximum. LTIR lets you exceed the 81.5M by the amount of those players contracts if you are already at the ceiling.
LTIR just lets the teams exceed the salary cap by the amount that player minus how much they were below the cap. So if Toronto is at 81M they can place Horton and Clarkson on LTIR for 10.55M extra to exceed the cap by. So their cap could be 81+10.55 = 91.55M if they want. (Assuming they sign Marner to 10M, they'll be cap complaint.)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Maj</b></div><div>Hey, can you explain me how this helps the leafs exactly ? I mean if they are written off on LTIR, then how does that raise the salary cap ? I mean it remains the same doesn't it ?</div></div>
It doesn’t help the leafs. The theory is that it allows us to get full relief. The easiest way to get full relief on ltir is to have your team as close the the cap as possible when putting players on ltir. This trade allows the leafs to put 10.55m on ltir. This theory is broken because the leafs need to be at the cap with both players on ltir.

Hmmm... funny that’s not what marner said. It is exactly what nylander has said.... and kapanen. Both two have stated that there is no where else they would rather play. Maybe Matthews will want to move on. Or maybe he gets the C and is treated like a hero and realizes that maybe a place like Toronto is where he belongs. One guy will not make or break your team, in 6 years who knows what the leafs will look like.
