The problem with that is, Risto barely moves the needle. Pretty soon we will be in Sharks territory. A ton of useless contracts and no draft picks. Stuck. Is there anyone more arrogant about his mid-round draft success than Chuck Fletcher.

I'm not as critical on him as the anlaytics crowd, but even if he improves and looks better than he did in Buffalo, for the price given he needs to improve a lot, and if he does then we can't afford to keep him at that point so I just don't get the move, he only has 1 year left. Unless they signed him to an extension, that makes it even more egregious.

you didn't need to say no offense. I don't take offense to people point out how dumb our GM just was. I am cool with adding Ristolainen and his physicality, but for that price, I'm expecting a much bigger impact. Buffalo probably got better value for Ristolainen than the Preds got for Ryan Ellis. Unreal.

Unfortunately I think Frost has to be in play for a deal like this to be made especially if they see Forester as a center in the NHL</div></div>
Regardless of Foerster, wing or center, the addition of Reinhart makes Foerster's position irrelevant. No?
I think Frost being dealt is needed for this reason. Future after next offseason where we retain Coots/G/Farabee hopefully. And Foerster makes a move for Donskoi's spot up above, and we deal Donskoi or just let it play it. The best part of Reinhart is his C/W versaility, at worst we can always move him to Center and move Hayes to 3rd line Center.

The Buffalo deal was rooted in what I've heard Philly is in on. They like both Reinhart and Risto. Apparently the whole league is much higher on Risto than analytics and fans. I don't disagree with your point, this is more just a type of move I could see. May even come as 2 separate moves. Just following rumored interest on that one.

Fair, he played both sides in Philly, but I could see them more inclined to look for a right hander specifically, but Khaira can't be worth much more. I'm gonna keep it, but awknowledge maybe there is some additions or something needed to acquire Khaira's rights. Philly just needs an aggressive 4th line center and as I said I just though Edmonton needed a big bodied defenseman to plug and play around their pairings.

understandable. The rumor out there is Flyers are willing to offer Farabee + a pick. I'd rather Frost than Farabee at this point.
If Buffalo would take Brink instead I tend to agree with you about keeping Frost, but I doubt Chuck would. Brink was Chuck's draft pick. I feel like he's more married to Brink than Frost at this point being Frost is a Hextall pick. Not saying Chuck doesn't like Frost, but ego comes into play, and Chucks vision for Brink might outweigh his vision for Frost.

They just lost larsson. Hagg is a 7th dman, but he's a big body that delivers some hits, and on an occasion will outplay his 7th dman role and look like he belongs. Thought he's a cheap option to add more physicality to your defense.

You are right! They did have better moves, but still my main point was some of the big names weren't feasible options.
Honestly, Clague > MacDermid, Bean > Geekie, and I would've done one big name to sell tickets. Although in the hockey world Giordano is a big name.

You have to make moves to contend
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brady_t12</b></div><div>Yeah I’m really not liking the trajectory this team is taking. I want to see them do well. I just have no idea what the plan is. They acquired 0 draft capital and drafted an awful team. Yeah you have 29 million in cap space, but if you have the green light to spend to the cap, you gotta use some of that room to put together a good team.
Seattle will have a great chance to compete this year. They’re in the weakest division. They can easily squeak in a wildcard spot. Playoffs for this team would help grow revenue and a more devoted fan base. Look at Vegas now. Obviously the goal isn’t cup final year 1, but don’t make yourself look like a circus show in year 1.</div></div>
I don't think they are a circus show at all. I think a lot of fans got overwhelmed with the bigger names available, but its not feasible for them to pick a lot of those guys. I feel like they picked some of the better young talent available. The problem is I don't think there were really draft compensation deals this year like the Vegas year. I saw something where teams found out about draft rules only a year before Vegas expansion so they were in a panic as they didn't want to lose their core pieces. Rules for Seattles were released 3 years ago plus Vegas success due to the fact they completely fleeced other teams in their expansion was a big deal also. No team was going to let that happen again so I just don't think those type of deals were available.
The only move I wish they did just because I wanted to see the hockey world burn was Carey Price. Other wise I honestly think there really wasn't a much better team available to them than this. As I said I do like some of their young players. You gotta think where we were at with Vegas, if Karlsson, Theodore, and Tuch didn't break out, their team was uncertain at first as well. I just think everyone is jumping on this too early. Gotta see how it plays out.
fwiw, they may contend for one of the final playoff spots, but more than likely they'll be a painfully average team for a while. And what a horrible year to have your high draft pick. I'm just saying I think the exposed lists got everyone riled up for mayhem and thats why its disappointing when really these were some of the more solid picks available minus a few selections.

I don't get why people just assume Seattle has to contend right away. I believe like Vegas, they are comfortable going into the season looking like a minimal team, and hoping some young guys blossom with more opportunity. Appleton, Lind, some of those young defensemen will all get some opportunities.
They'll make a deal or 2 in the next couple of days, sure, but don't expect it to be so they change the roster completely. They'll like run into the season with a questionable squad. Middle of the pack type team likely, but again no one expected Vegas to contend the way they did. If Seattle is in the thick of things in December, just like Vegas, they'll start pushing to get better and makes moves this year. Thats why the team needs flexibility. It can go in either direction, if they suck right away than can just commit to the future, but if they are better than expected, they build up for a playoff run.
I just think the Hakstol hiring in their eyes means they are more committed to the future, although in my eyes the hiring means they are gonna suck for however long he is a head coach for the team.

I don't think they want that retention plus taking on Voracek's big contract in addition. Seattle can afford to do that comfortably. Donskoi is actually a solid player. I think they'd rather have him and his 3.9 mil AAV and cap relief.

ESPNs debut was TRASH
Honestly making fun of some of the teams is fine, but Chris Fowler clearly knew nothing about hockey. Thats the embarrassing part. The celebrities they invited disrespected the sport. Like when Kemp said "he only watches the fights" like come on. At least pretend to care about hockey, a sport you just paid to broadcast.
There was clearly zero effort into the broadcast. I felt like the NHL did a disservice to ESPN at first when they didn't fix the leak issue, but as soon as I saw the broadcast, it was clear no one cared at ESPN anyway. Which is a huge missed opportunity all around, because there was so much intrigue, if everything was secret, and you brought in real hockey broadcasters for analysis, the shock that people and fans would've had to the picks and lack of trades as a surprise would've been great.
It was a team effort of disaster.

I think I blame the NHL for not being intelligent enough to know that would happen. I think they made a terrible first impression. Then I watched that broadcast and realized ESPN doesn't care in the least about hockey any way. Chris Fowler didn't even pretend to know a thing about hockey. All the celebrity plugs were borderline mocking the sport.
