Possible Playoffs
Calgary has no use for a bottom pair (if that) defenseman. They already have plenty of players on better contracts to compete for the 5th/6th/7th spot on defense. So many they'll probably wind up waiving a few after training camp.

Finish the Roster
Terrible for Calgary. A pair of overpaid pending UFAs the Flames don't want, a marginal defenseman and a winger who wouldn't make the roster in Calgary wouldn't get anything from Calgary. You'd have to pay us something pretty significant to even consider taking that package.

If it was the last year of his contract, then I could see a package similar to Hanifin.
We also have no use for Jarnkrok, because we already have 13 forwards signed for next year, and we need to make spots for Coronato, and Pelletier. With Schwindt, and Klapka fighting for 4th line duty.</div></div>
A lot light but otherwise I agree.

1. I assume you mean to sign Tanev as a UFA. That could work if the AAV and term aren't excessive.
2. Calgary would certainly accept that but NJ won't be offering Nemec.
3.Calgary should be willing to do that, dunno about Seattle though.
4.Probably needs some retention on Josh Anderson.
5. Haha they do but not even they would take on any of those 4 players unless they're found not guilty since they'll almost certainly be banned from the NHL if they're found guilty.

Replace Jarnkrok and Abruzzese with Knies and Calgary might consider it if they really like Knies.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kman0101</b></div><div>Consider something. You need to make the playoffs... and you have a 10M anchor in Huberdeau. Mitch will get Huberdeau to 75-80 pts/year just by walking into the room which helps the team. Plus his own 80-90 pts.
He's getting a lot of flak, but he is a GREAT player.</div></div>
Keep your "GREAT player" Calgary doesn't want him. Huberdeau needs players who go to the tough parts of the ice for him to pass the puck to not a soft perimeter passer. A big physical center to provide net front presence and a speedy winger who can stretch the defense are what worked with Huberdeau in Florida.
Calgary isn't likely to make the playoffs next year unless they somehow manage to pick up that physical net front presence top 6 center, a top 4 defenseman or two and maybe a top 6 sniper with speed. Getting all that this summer is very highly unlikely even without wasting valuable cap space on Marner.

Boston Pizza Special
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Augustus</b></div><div>It's a moot point, Samsonov is a UFA-to-be anyway and doesn't need to be traded for. His presence in this deal doesn't mean a thing when it comes to evaluating it. It becomes Markstrom (50% retention), Andersson and a 2025 2nd for 7th OA 2024 and a 5th. Doesn't cut it.
If it was just Markstrom and Andersson leaving, no retention, it would be tempting to get another top 10 pick, Alberta boy Carter Yakemchuk may just be available at 7th, another right shot D to go along with Hunter B in the prospect pool. But I'd want something a little more than a 5th rounder in addition to that.</div></div>
Yup UFA Samsonov doesn't add or subtract any value.
Tempting but not enough, especially not with 50% retention on Markstrom for 2 years. With a little luck plus some poor scouting by teams picking before us 7th + 10th might be enough to get both Iginla and Yakemchuk.

Tavares likely won't give a return of tangible assets (likely only draft picks)
Marner deal is bad (not enough value for him)
Foegele at 4M is crazy, and so is Joshua and Stephenson. That will never happen. Edmundson will want more money not less, and Kahkonen is not the goalie to get, especially not at that price... yikes</div></div>
You're correct on the first point but not for the reasons you think. It's because they aren't worth much.
Moot point since Tavares won't waive.
Nobody is going to pay much for 1 year of Marner without retention especially not a team he might consider waiving for.

Dallas declines. They like big gritty physical players. Players Like Benn. Not soft perimeter players like Marner.
Two late 1sts isn't enough for Markstrom with 2 years of retention at 3 mil per either.

They're all bad for Calgary. The Coleman trade might be worse than the Andersson trade... 2.45 mil per year retention for 3 years on a good player who's well worth his contract for nothing but a 2nd? Ridiculous.

PLD for Huberdeau
Remove the retention on Huberdeau and Calgary probably does it. The Flames need a still young top 6 center more than they need Huberdeau but there's absolutely no chance Calgary retains 2 mil per year for 7 years.

Calgary
1. Probably acceptable now.
2. Nobody is going to pay anything for any of the players involved in the sex scandal.
3.Never! Calgary might do Marner for Mangi straight up simply because they should be able to get more flipping Marner at the deadline with 50% retained than for Mangi with 50% retained.
4. Value isn't bad but Calgary likely wants to keep Greer. Besides that Florida pick is likely going to Montreal.
5. Calgary doesn't need to bring a goalie in, they need to move one out.

That'll get Markstrom but if you want Andersson too you'll have to add to that. Ottawa probably declines anyhow if all they get for 7th OA is 1 year of soft overpaid Marner. An early 2nd and a late 3rd don't change the value equation nearly enough to matter.

You obviously know nothing about Calgary. I don't live there but I've been there many times, it's about the best city in Canada with a population over 1 mil to live in. I've been to Toronto, Vancouver often enough and lived in edmonton for many years. edmonton actually isn't a bad place to live in either but it pales in comparison to Calgary.
