Just making conversation, that’s all.
Albatross contracts depend on total dollars it will cost the owner. According to Seravalli, every 5M of real dollars is a 1st was the approx. rate. I don’t know the ins and outs of Goodrows contract but I sure as hell wouldn’t take the rumour mill from a website as the going rate between NHL GMs.
Manageable sure, but I remember listening to Rishaug last year saying Katz (Oil Owner) was tired of constantly having buyouts on the books. Maybe he still feels that was and doesn’t want a 1.5M hit for 6 years.

I’ll admit I put nearly zero thought into who would take them. After the playoffs I feel the only one who may need a sweetener would be Yamamoto. They all played well enough but just maybe aren’t efficient enough contracts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Interesting. I mean... Lafferty is probably worth a 3rd TOPS. Barrie, considering his cap hit and defensive deficiencies, has also been rumored to be worth a 3rd, MAYBE (but doubtfully) a 2nd with retention. So, CHI flips him over the summer or next year and could potentially end up with more than they would get for Lafferty, at the cost of helping EDM's cap situation a bit. Only thing is, he eats a roster spot, which we might need if Davidson wants Regula and/or Mitchell to get legit NHL time by next season. I think CHI possibly takes that bet though, and sends Mitchell down for the rest of the season to play bigger minutes in Rockford.</div></div>
Tricky for sure. I thought it was interesting when I threw it in there. I feel as though CHI could absolutely flip him next summer, whereas Lafferty checks off a box of higher priority for the oil.

I definitely felt like I threw in some quality prospects. X was a recent first, and petrov emerged as a top scorer in the OHL. In addition to the first and second round picks. I wonder if that's enough to make the FO staff of NSH think about retention?

Strome isn’t getting qualified and will be a UFA which is why I have 0 compensation going to Chicago.

That’s the dream I think. If you can get another team to eat 1M, Chi eats 1.5, all of a sudden he’s a lot more enticing. I guess we will see.

Did you read the second half of my response? I understand what you’re saying. You have 11 picks already, you’re not a charity. I’m saying what’s 14 picks. Use those to facilitate more deals. If not, that’s fine. We’re two dudes on our phones in a disagreement over a mediocre pro athlete’s hypothetical trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy12Bob</b></div><div>Detroit already have 11 top-3 round picks in the next two years and there are more to come from taking on cap dump deals of players that are actually useful and fill a need and will play on our roster.
If two teams were to approach Detroit asking us to take on cap to facilitate a trade between them then it will, of course, be looked at. It is, however, a completely different thing to take on a player not knowing if you can get rid of him again. Such a deal would always have to be negotiated by the two teams selling and buying the player, see the Savard deal between CBJ and TBL only two months ago.
There isn't a shortage of deals available for Detroit this offseason. There are few teams with spare cap and a lot of teams in cap trouble. Detroit cannot do all trades they're offered, there's both a 50-contract limit as well as a 90-rights limit and Detroit have to sign a lot of players to fill the two rosters in Detroit and Grand Rapids as well as make sure they don't have to get rid of their picks because they are up against the limit.
Detroit will simply put pick the deals that are most advantageous to them and say no to the rest and one very big part of that is making sure that the deals work both in the short as well as the long term for us. So, no deals for players we have no use for, roster spots in GR are for our own prospects, not someone else's castoffs, and no trades for players in positions where we have no roster spots for them.
Detroit's current needs are; a 2C (like Tyler Johnson), two LD (one veteran on a two year contract like Gardiner or Gostisbehere + a young good top-4 like Vince Dunn), waiver exempt B (or better) prospects (several needed on all forward positions) and one exempt RD that's good enough to do injury call-ups without caving.</div></div>
Listen Steve Yzerman, I know you have no interest in 2M for one year and 3 draft picks. I’m sure Holland can facilitate this deal elsewhere if it’s available.
I figured you may want the three picks as ammunition to acquire a player you described to hurry up your own rebuild as I doubt you’re spending to the cap this year anyway.

Any threeway deal would have to be initiated by Edmonton and Buffalo (according to your suggestion) who then approaches Detroit. It's not our job to do your deals for you.
If the players being offered to Detroit aren't a good fit the answer will always be a no.</div></div>
Three picks for 2M isn’t useful? In a draft where there will be more players from rounds outside of the first see the NHL?
I’m posting for discussion. Appreciate your response.

Hey I’m fine with you thinking it’s not enough. Det has a ton of money, and I’d love for them to eat some of it. Maybe flip Koski at 50% to Buffalo or elsewhere and you’ve got 3 picks for eating 2M of a player.

Feels like quite a bit, but with Rakell I think your paying for what he’s capable of and not necessarily what he’s done the last two years on a bad team. I also think at under 4m, not many better rentals that count turn into long term solutions.
Thoughts on Yamamoto straight up instead? Just for discussions sake.
