Interesting. I mean... Lafferty is probably worth a 3rd TOPS. Barrie, considering his cap hit and defensive deficiencies, has also been rumored to be worth a 3rd, MAYBE (but doubtfully) a 2nd with retention. So, CHI flips him over the summer or next year and could potentially end up with more than they would get for Lafferty, at the cost of helping EDM's cap situation a bit. Only thing is, he eats a roster spot, which we might need if Davidson wants Regula and/or Mitchell to get legit NHL time by next season. I think CHI possibly takes that bet though, and sends Mitchell down for the rest of the season to play bigger minutes in Rockford.

I don't think NSH is interested in retaining on Ekholm. That said I don't know what kind of quality those prospects you attached to the deal are so who knows.
What I really wanted to say was that IF EDM is going to empty the cupboards this year it makes sense to get some quality D with term. It has been their weak spot for the entirety of the McDavid led team.

I definitely felt like I threw in some quality prospects. X was a recent first, and petrov emerged as a top scorer in the OHL. In addition to the first and second round picks. I wonder if that's enough to make the FO staff of NSH think about retention?

Tricky for sure. I thought it was interesting when I threw it in there. I feel as though CHI could absolutely flip him next summer, whereas Lafferty checks off a box of higher priority for the oil.

I like bourgalt and kulak would help stablize nashvilles defense during the changeover. I think id be ok with it from nashvilles end but the 1st being in 2024 is a killjoy.
