leafs roster shakeup to be playoff ready

The fact that you think Cowan and Xhekaj are even comparable in value at the moment is laughable.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kash</b></div><div>I think the first is more than enough for Carrier. I like Holmberg in our bottom-six. I do think we are overpaying a bit on the MIN deal - specifically adding in Nick Robertson.</div></div>
I like Holmberg as well but I'm a firm believer in having solid role players slotted in the bottom six and Cole Smith provides a lot of value defensively and on the PK. I don't really see Robertson getting an opportunity to shine with us as he's basically been confined to the third line with limited minutes. If Bobby McMann can sustain his current level of play and solidify himself on the second line there really isn't an opportunity for Robertson to showcase his full potential unless injuries occur, hence why he's the key piece being moved in this trade for a veteran playoff goaltender.

Murrays career is far from over I think this year solidified that he can be a viable option in net barring any health issues.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Murray refused to waive to Buffalo before the draft 2 years ago (before the Leafs got him). I do see him being a very good fit for Buffalo though. He actually played well for the Leafs when he was healthy. He just struggled to be healthy.
If Murray were to waive, I actually think this would be good for all 3 parties. Leafs get cap. Buffalo get Murray and 2 picks. Murray gets a shot to play on a very good team and help mentor Levi.</div></div>
I didn't know about that thanks for telling me. I see this trade working out well for both sides if Murray were to waive his NTC and stay healthy enough to share the crease with Levi. He proved himself in Toronto as a solid goaltender and I see him as a guy who can mentor Levi.

Nylander and Matthews getting what theyre worth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYR1983</b></div><div>13.5M and 9.5M seem like the realistic numbers. Remove pesce and sign a cheap D man. Then when Tavares is finished he resigns a 3X3or5 year deal</div></div>
Tavares shouldn't get more than 5 on his next deal honestly. Pesce would really compliment Rielly on that top pairing but Term is the big issue when it comes to defenseman reaching the 30 year mark.

Nylander and Matthews getting what theyre worth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>Can't see Matthews signing for less than 12.7 simply to be the highest
Pesce will likely want more term
Hell no to Mantha. He's been bad
Pass on paying Mott more than 1 mil and definitely pass on playing him above the fourth line
I will never understand the love for Bobby mcman. Seems like a cool dude and a hard worker. But he's an ahler</div></div>
I 100% agree that Matthews wouldn't sign for anything less than 2.7 but realistically he's not worth as much as Mackinnon at this point and time. If we signed Pesce to four year deal next season it would expire for him at the age of 33, anything over that and you start to reach a serious decline for defenseman. Mantha I see having a bounce back year playing with the right linemates and given 1st pp opportunities and I find that Motte is an underrated two way forward that would fill out the 3rd line nicely. Bobby Mcmann had a solid 10 game stint with us where he showed a very high motor with strong forecheck skills, I think he would fit perfectly in the bottom six.

Nylander
The value just isn't there for Nylander. Boeser's value alone is not enough to warrant a pretty much one for one deal with some picks to balance it out. Toronto probably demands a first and maybe a little more in return.

Possible Nylander Deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>royle9</b></div><div>You're not getting that much for Willy lol.
Best temper your expectations now. Toronto is at a point of weakness, every team knows they cant afford him.</div></div>
The way I see it is that Willy will get more than Alex Debrincat did but less than Meier. Toronto can afford Willy after next year with several contract expiring, the cap increasing and potentially moving a few pricy pieces in the bottom six. The question is whether they'll overpay him grossly to stay or move him. The negotiations between Willy and the Leafs have gone nowhere because Willy refuses to accept that he isn't worth anywhere near 10 Million. I think this is a fair deal for Nylander should the leafs decide to deal him.

I feel like gaining prospects in return for Nylander does help the team in the long run and brings in more value than Hanifin does as a slightly above average defender to fill in the second pairing. Nylander holds much more value in that trade even if the return is Hanifin + Backlund.

Combining the first 2 trades to be Beaucage + 4th (or even 3rd) for Lafferty + Timmins would be nice for the Avs imo</div></div>
Timmins really flourished here in Toronto with the proper icetime its a shame we don't have room for him but he should be traded to a place where he has an opportunity to crack a fulltime NHL lineup.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyManiac95</b></div><div>Avs totally accept. A decent 3rd liner, not too expensive (and probably close to what we spend on a ufa for that spot), and traded for a prospect that we can easily replace!</div></div>
Lafferty is solid in the bottom six but is a player that we can replace for cheap + we need to get his cap off the books. Taking a B list prospect is similar to what we did with the Johnsson/Anderson trade with NJ in order to offload his cap hit.

It's not likely that we even trade Willy in the first place but It's just a hypothetical of what could happen between Calgary and Toronto if a deal should take place.

Kressler alone is nowhere near enough to dump the Murray Contract. Arizona knowing the Leaf's cap situation probably demands a 2nd+. The Timmins deal is realisitic although I wish we had a spot for him in the lineup because he has decent upside. I don't think we should give up on Robertson just yet.

I feel like Timmins has shown enough in his short stint with Toronto to warrant earning a late third alone. He was very solid for us offensively and defensively and has proven that he can be an NHL regular given the icetime.

The return can vary for either. Realistically both would probably get a fourth or less back but the point of the trades was to offload their over 2M worth of cap.
