Next year with PLD
I really can't see Vegas being interested in Edmundson, assuming the D core stays around: Martinez, McNabb, Hague, and Whitecloud are all honestly at least as good as, if not better than Edmundson, not to mention Theodore and Pietrangelo - that's their top 6 D right there.

Thread:
Not sure what this team does next year
-In what world is Vegas the one adding to a Martinez for Edmundson trade? Martinez might make more money but he is leaps and bounds above Edmundson in terms of on-ice production. Edmundson has some of the worst defensive metrics in the league this year; Martinez meanwhile helps Vegas drive play and suppress chances at a very high level. Absolutely terrible deal for the Knights, no chance they would make this.
-The issue I take with your reasoning on the PLD trade is that it doesn't hold up if the main reason to give up prime assets for him is to give him the 8th year - if you sign him to a 8 year deal this summer as an RFA after a trade, or a 7 year deal next summer, you're still only going to have him through 2030-31 - so, the 8th year technically would be 2023-24. I don't think adding PLD to this squad turns them around into an instant contender, so by your logic, you're giving up Norlinder/Beck/FLA's 1st to save $1-1.5M on the AAV. Is that really going to be worth it in the long run, especially if the cap pops up in the next couple years the way it's been rumored to?
-Calgary can't afford Hoffman, even with retention. I think the move with him is to send him out with full retention - I think he still only gets back a mid-round pick at that point, but he has done a good job becoming a better two-way player this year and I think he could be an asset to a contender at at $2.25M cap hit.
-Mayo's AAV is only $950K and he has an extra year of term (in addition to being 6 years younger than Wideman.) I don't see any reason for Vegas to do this one - it saves them, at most, $188K against the cap for an older, arguably worse player.
-Don't see the reasoning for Arizona here, either. If I'm the Coyotoes, I just sign one of the 100 or so UFA guys that will be available for $1M instead of giving up an interesting young player like the 6'9" Douglas for a guy who's practically the definition of a replacement level player. Wouldn't you rather have a guy like Derek Stepan signed for $1M (and potentially flippable at the deadline for a pick) & Douglas than just Pitlick?

There’s no chance we’re paying to move Martinez lol. I don’t understand why most Buffalo fans think we’re just gonna hand over this pick. It might be the most valuable 3rd round pick ever lol

Theodore
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kingkanuck</b></div><div>The "Golden" Knights are the ones that signed Eichel $10M, Stone $9.5M and Pietrangelo $8M to NMC contracts. Then they surrounded them with 4 players earning $5M or better with M-NTC clauses. That is almost $49M in 7 nearly unmovable contracts.
They are $10.2M over the cap with only 21 of 23 possible roster players signed. It seems obvious that they have to move someone. If they move Theodore they will still be $5m over the cap with another move necessary.
Hoglander and Rathbone project to be more than just NHL journeymen. Burroughs can be a depth Dman who can play either side. DiPietro may have some upside and Vegas' goalie situation looks a little suspect. What they get from a 2nd and 2 - 3rd round picks depends entirely on how well they draft.
Yes, Theodore is a quality Dman but what is his actual value? Is he worth more than 3 - 2nds and 3 - 3rds and a utility player?</div></div>
Lol wut? With Patrick, Webber and Lehner on LTIR we have 4 million in space. This offer is terrible, it would be easily topped by 30 other teams if we fielded calls for him.

Vegas Options
Depends on how long Brossoit is out.
Jiri Patera can play a few games
Connor Ingram from Nashville
Magnus Hellberg from Seattle Older. Played in KHL last year. Sweden goalie in WC and OG
Joey Daccord also from Seattle
Mikhail Berdin from Winnipeg
Short term guys. Each should hit waivers.

Making Moves
I do not see how Vegas needs a RHD.
Martinez, McNabb, Hague left side
Pietrangelo, Theodore, Whitecloud right side
Hutton, LHD, is the extra, Korczak plays the right and could definitely get a few games, they re-signed Miromanov who is a RHD.
Martinez can also play the right and has done so for Vegas before.

Yeah that defensemen has developed into a top pairing on the Canadian national team. LT started for that team. Varly is 34 with one year left. I can guarantee you we ain’t sending either guy for him. You isles fans are living in another dimension with these trades lol

They had a ton of injuries. So really at most times they had half of a roster. Now with a new coach they could play better

Don't you mean pretend the Buffalo front office were good human beings and let Eichel get the surgery he wanted?

do something
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MysteryFish</b></div><div>I didn't love getting rid of him for nothing. I would much rather get rid of Martinez but I bet we would have to move picks out to get rid of him. With that cap situation, clearly, no team was willing to give anything for anyone. I'm just thinking about it like losing UFA. I would love Milano or Rodrigues. I'm also interested to see how Brisson does.
I'm also really exited to see the new system. That alone might increase the scoring. It looks like they are prioritizing speed and two way players. It could be possible that Patches wouldn't fit into the system as well.
I'm still hoping they can trade Martinez for a solid offensive player.</div></div>
if we can get milano and rdrigues i would feel much much better about things, that, or tkachuk but we gotta add something

they can just ltir him then, just gotta get rid of that contract. and i think lehner is injured too iirc.
brisson looks good, so him replacing patrick is fine, i just thought maybe they’d wanna let him develop in the ahl for a little

Simple Fix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I have no doubt phones are ringing all over is Smith is available.
The question is do you really think you're getting a return for him. You don't really have any leverage.
The best you can hope is to pin them against each other, but they are wise to that. They could just as easily all say, what are you going to pay for me to take him?</div></div>
They will not have to pay someone to take Smith. He will get worthwhile return.
Every team is working in their own self interest.
Only thing I could see would be a conditional pick involved so that he is not flipped within the Pacific division.

We'd have to move Georgiev for that to work. Or send Brossoit to Edmonton or New Jersey. Both need goalies. Just Krav+2nd for Smith is great with NYR.
