Salary Cap

Agreed, realistically though if he wants to stay on a competitive team he will have to sign a contract like such. I put 5 years although it could be 4 because it allows him to sign another large deal after as he will only be 27-28.

Playoffs

Hall is an amazing player, but from CHI's POV...they're not in an all or nothing mode. Better to stay the course and develop those players/picks.</div></div>
I hear yah! This trade is definitely two opposite ends of the spectrum. It would be a full blown rebuild for NJ and a go all in move for CHI! No in between lol

Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PegLeg</b></div><div>I just don't see NJ wanting to do this deal. Sure picks 1 and 3 would be crazy, but they have a very good young team, but they are reaching the stage where they want to start trending upwards into being a good and competitive team, and trading Taylor Hall is a big setback in regards to that. If next season goes bad, I could see them making a deal like this for next year's first around the deadline.</div></div>
I can see what you are saying! But they way I see this trade is cashing in on a player who has made it known that he wants to leave or wiill want to leave cause the rebuild is still early. With 1 and 3 pick you get 2 NHL ready players who can develop with the young core, as well as Boqvist who will be an elite NHL D one day.
I understand what you are saying though cause none enjoys the 10 5-10 year rebuild

Lets try again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jcash08</b></div><div>that Shattenkirk trade is disgusting.
Don't mind the Tierney trade though.</div></div>
I can see why you wouldnt like the shattenkirk trade but keep in ind there is only 2 years left on his contract and he has proven that he is capable of putting up 40+ point seasons! Just hasnt done it in the last 2 years so his value has decreased so BOS might be able to get away with trading a backes (only 2 years left) a good prospect in bjork and a proven top 6 D in Grezlyck!

Past the first round
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jordant89</b></div><div>I think Tkachuk will cost more then that on a long term deal</div></div>
Agreed! Now looking at it, a more realistic contract would probably be 4-5 years at the 7-8 Mill range, leaves times for him to sign a big-money long-term deal when he is in his prime and putting up 90+ point seasons.

Fair! But for a return like that, which could be likely, might be worth a second look...

Exactly, they are always looking for forward depth and ottawa might as well get something out of 2 expiring contracts!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ragsandbluesfan</b></div><div>Thats too much for a collateral piece just gurantee extensions for all players that need one (hall trouba and vatanen)</div></div>
trouba and Laine are both RFA's, whereas vatanen still has a year left. I do see what you are saying, roslovic is young and has a bright future but i think at the moment Halls value is worth more than players with RFA status who may now want to sign in New Jersey...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlastnyFromThePastny</b></div><div>Florida rejects, not only do they highly prize jack-of-all trades Trochek, but Huberdeau is a big part of their future. I don't think they're interested in an aging Malkin for that.</div></div>
This is based off rumors off the pens and panthers discussing a huberdeau trade and the fact that the panthers arein a win now state of mind.

There is no guarantee either laine or trouba sign there, roslo is more of a "what if they dont" collateral piece.
