I feel like everyone under values trades so I figured wth throw out a trade atleast people agree would go above and beyond to get it done. Hathaway is on the second line because he and Kadri would be a damn pain in ars to play against.

Yeah I wasn't really worried about the cap, I actually think the Kadri and Domi signings would be a bit less than I estimated, something like 6.75 and 3.75 so there you go

WPG wants to give Schmidt away they hardly paid anything for him and they don't want his salary. 1st and high end center prospect for a current top 6 center is pretty good value who wants out. Soucy doesn't fit with SEA systems, they trade him for a D prospect and middle 6 forward prospect, pretty good value.
Must have been a good Leafs trade though since you didn't comment there Mr Toronto....

Caps Trade Deadline
Caps need some youth and speed to be added to the lineup and Sam Bennett needs a change of scenery I think it is a good mix. Panik has similar stats to Sam, but I think the Flames would be getting a more consistent player, which is something that their management wants, and Sutter would appreciate.
I doubt the Caps trade for anyone from Canada though, I don't think they can afford the wait time from quarantine.

I think you might be the only person who thinks Hagelin is a "checking wing" and actually Florida is looking for wingers, seeing as how they only have 6 currently signed for next season.
Panik brings more than Hagelin to the overall Caps roster

I always tend to over pay on these arm-chairs to make it more of a challenge to put together a realistic roster under the cap. He seems to have bounced around lately and would be a great add on the Caps 3rd line. He could get matchups that would benefit his game.

Get Younger Maintain Elite Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jcash08</b></div><div>So what would your solution be to when Nurse, Djoos, SIegenthaler and Stephenson all need contract extensions? Because at this rate Nurse's contract will double and Djoos' contract will go up to at least 5M in a top 4 role. Roughly 10M in cap increase with no room for it. Meaning you will have to replace players with younger entry level deals which you have non of because you gave away 4 top end picks.</div></div>
Additionally, if 4 players are taking up $10 million in cap space, that is pretty good. Even more so, if the caps are making deep runs they aren't picking till 25th or later, yes still a 1st round pick, but not anywhere near the top of the draft to get an impactful young player

Well first off I don't think anyone in the hockey community sees Djoos getting a $5million contract for his next extension, especially on a team that has friendly d-deals in Kempney and Jensen. Nurse is also an RFA after next season, and I think doubling his contract is a bit extreme, maybe $5 max. Siegenthaler will also be coming off of his RFA deal. Come on with Stephenson hes a career 4th liner.
The Caps have maybe 3-4 years left of Ovechkin scoring at 35+ a season. I have no problem going all in on the next 2-3 seasons and maximizing Ovechkin, Backstroom, Kuznetsov, Carlson, Oshie, Wilson, all operating at some form of their prime., while also having a solid core of players under 30

He is worth a 2nd round pick. A young forward with upside, there will be a team that pays a 2nd, especially a team that has his former teammate, McDavid.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jcash08</b></div><div>Giving away 4 first round picks as compensation for an offer sheet does not replenish good young talent in the Capitals system.</div></div>
I noted that they have to come up with a strategy that helps them get younger but also keeps them competitive. That means over paying and adding younger talented players to the team. Nurse-24, Tkachuk-21, Compher-24, then the young Caps of Djoos, SIegenthaler, Vrana, Stephenson, and Wilson all under 25. 8 guys under 25.

Caps Offseason+Moving up in the Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mardzy</b></div><div>The only problem with trading up for the number two pick is if he plays, which Svechnikov will, his bonus is significant, and will cause cap problems, putting the team over the max limit.
A player could earn up to $3,775,000 on entry level bonuses.</div></div>
Pretty easy fix. The cap number I set is below the "rumored number" by 500k-1million. So cap space is 1.5-2 already. Send down a player like Gersich or Fjallby (in my lineup) and now your up close to 3 in cap space.
If Svechnikov is that good that he earns all of the bonus money now the Caps are in a position to move a Connolly or DSP clearing up another 1.5
Not something I am concerned about

Ottawa Trade-Not Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>At first I"m like, YEAH! Brassard has always been an offensively dependable player, and he's signed through next year. Chiasson just kind of appeared at the end of the summer, so it looks like you're paying almost nothing to trade a 3C for a 2C. Eller is two years younger, and has a couple fewer points. On the other hand, Brassard has played about 20% more minutes, and his 55% offensive zone start percentage is 9% higher than Eller's.
<a href="https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/b/brassde01.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/b/brassde01.html</a>
<a href="https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/e/ellerla01.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/e/ellerla01.html</a>
Eller also has experience killing penalties. Does Brassard? I agree that it would take extra picks or prospects to peel Brassard away from another good team within the same conference. I'm just not sure that's a very good investment. On the other hand, I really like the idea of building forward depth beyond the top six, and this is a novel way of doing it. Bravo on identifying someone who might add some extra offense and help Connolly or whoever ends up on line three produce more offense.</div></div>
Glad you can atleast get behind the idea. I have been calling for more offensive depth on this team for years. When it comes time to play the Penguins again in the playoffs they need a great third line. The top two lines on each team always cancel out or the Penguins top 6 beats the caps top 6. Need the 3rd line to be dynamic. Brassard with Burakovsky/Stephenson/Connolly adds alot of offensive depth to the team.
Plus in the horrible case either Backstrom (or Kuznetsov) goes down this is what your looking at a solid replacement in the top 6 instead of Lars Eller

You could be right, there is a chance he could be better than Holtby, but what good will that be if the team in front of him is worse?
Lets just say that they are the exact same talent when Samsonov (20) is 28, Braden Holtby's current age. That is 8 years away, making Ovechkin 40, Backstrom 38, Oshie 38, Kuzy 33. The team now is built to win and you can't wait for somebody to be great in 8 years when you have the talent as a team to be great now

For Ovi, there would need to be way more given up. Also, I think Burakovsky signs a bridge somewhere in the 3-4m fav range (more like 3m). I also am not a fan of the bobby ryan trade. We shed some cap, but in the long-run we take on so much more than if we were to just ride Orpik out.</div></div>
Weber for Subban is a pretty solid base for the trade which would be extremely similar. Both elite over period of time and both have larger contracts. Ovi has more goals than Pavelski to make up for the difference in Cap. Its a fair trade.
Bobby Ryan adds goal scoring to the 3rd line that the Caps need, plus he earned alot of respect from me this playoffs and Caps need guys who show up in the playoffs
