Sure but who’s the right guy? It’s not Karlsson even if he’s be a ton of fun to watch with your forwards. A shut down RHD is difficult to find. I can think of a couple expiring contracts after 23-24, guys like Tanev, Hakanpaa, and Pesce will be UFAs the following year. I could see Tanev moving but the other two aren’t getting traded this summer. You do have the money to overpay Mayfield as a UFA this summer but he’s really the only option that fits the description.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stadel</b></div><div>Except he's not good, that's why I made the comment. My issue with his beliefs isn't why I don't want him on the Sabres.
I don't want him on the Sabres because he's a lefty who isn't good. How much value could that possibly add to a lineup that has two first overall left shot d-men on it?
He's bottom 15 percentile in offensive GAR and xGAR, 30th percentile in defensive, and a negative on-ice expected goals differential. All this coupled with a bloated contract at a time where the Sabres are going to have to pay their actually good LHD.
It's still a Nyet for me.</div></div>
Ok at least you’re basing it off hockey and not nonsense. You have a lot of LHD for sure but finding a good RHD is tough in a trade. You might be better off acquiring an experienced LHD of some sort and playing Dahlin and Power on the right.

Agreed but can you see them embracing a rebuild? That’s a non traditional hockey market that’s had no success. They shouldn’t be looking at anything other than trying to add a 1C, either by the draft or by trade.

He's 22 years old and scoring at a >.5 ppg pace in about as horrendous of a scoring atmosphere as you can find in the NHL right now. Throwing a player like that away along with a 1st just to overpay Kevin Hayes to play 2nd line center for 3 years and put all sorts of pressure on their negotiation period for Texier, Sillinger, Johnson and Marchenko would be an asinine decision. If the Jackets do end up acquiring Hayes, the Flyers will be retaining money. It's the only way it makes sense for the Jackets. Hell, they'd be better off just running it back with Roslovic another year than going through with this trade proposal of yours.</div></div>
Retention isn’t out of the question but expecting them to retain 50% for the rest of that contract is. I did it on your end and you’ll have a lot of space left over even if it cost the entire cap hit.

I assumed a comment like this would pop up no matter where he was traded. At the end of the day teams simply don’t care if a player upset people if that player is good enough to help them win. If it’s a Mitchell Miller situation where serious things clearly occurred that’s different. However, Provorov’s “crime” was not having an opinion that fit that particular narrative that evening. That’s no reason to not add a good player. In fact, it’s a horrible reason.

I don’t see them rebuilding so they’ll have to find a way to shed cap and add a winger who can score. I think Zadorov, Kylington, and maybe even Tanev are all possible candidates to move.

I didn't imply the Jackets are a rebuilding team, I said the price you're proposing for Hayes is far too high. Why would you think you need to educate me on the state of the team?</div></div>
Your options are trade for a 1st centre or roll with what you have. The only way that changes is with Bedard. And I’m telling you that you’re undervaluing Hayes, not that you don’t know your own team. He’s easily worth a 1st outside of the top 10 and two defenceman that haven’t lived up to their draft stock.

If Matthews goes through this summer without agreeing to an extension Toronto is going to have a real problem, but I can’t see them trading him. He gives them the best chance to win next year and even if it’s his last year in Toronto they’ll want to make a run.

An all star centre isn’t worth 7 million a year? No way would they retain 50% because he’s a good player at a position of need. Columbus isn’t a rebuild team despite how bad your season has been. They can’t afford to after paying Gaudreau and Laine.

A team trying to win now would take him at 50%. It’d be a 2nd with a prospect or a late 1st. Contenders never care about late 1sts as we’ve seen.

The Only Unconventional Trade Idea I Would Consider
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>-Two lottery picks for Caufield is a biiig stretch. Both deals the Sharks are moving expire after next season, so they're not necessarily drags on the cap - and for what it's worth, it doesn't really save them any cap. Labanc & Lindblom combined have a $7.225M cap hit; the only way Caufield costs less than that is if you bridge him 2-3 years and just kick the $8M can down the line. I don't see the value for the Sharks here; Caufield is a great player but doesn't fix their main problems (defense/goaltending). On Montreal's side, why are you trading Caufield for future picks when that really just pushes the rebuild timeline back a couple years? Caufield is young and excelling at the NHL level, and you have enough young assets to build around him and Suzuki as your core players.
-Washington might think about this - they have minimal D depth next year and moving on from Mantha's contract would be a plus.
-No idea why Edmonton would add a pick here. The cap is basically even with Hoffman+Wideman and Ceci, but Edmonton is shipping out the clearly better player and shouldn't have to add the pick. If you wanted to take it out, they might consider it, but I also think that secondary scoring is less of an issue than defense on that team, so turning Ceci into Wideman just to add Hoffman doesn't necessarily make the Oilers better.
-I'd be shocked if Murray's NTC doesn't have Montreal on it; we know it had Buffalo, so it's not a stretch to assume he wanted to avoid the rebuilding teams with his list. Beyond that, why would Montreal do this? Montembault has the potential to put up the numbers Murray has without the health concerns, Tuch is a better prospect in my eyes than Loponen, and adding a single 4th in next year's draft doesn't make up for the value disparity here. Easy decline for the Habs here in my eyes.</div></div>
I’m willing to trade him for picks that are likely both top 10 picks. The rebuild just started so a slight delay isn’t a real issue. We aren’t on a timetable. The franchise is stable and doesn’t have the issues many other NHL franchises would have with a long rebuild.
Edmonton is saving here. Wideman is an AHL depth piece. Hoffman at 50% for one year is a short term gain but also a long term gain because he’s a UFA the following season and Ceci is not.
Likewise, trading Murray saves the Leafs millions and enables them to have more cash to pay Samsonov. Tuch is living off his name at this point because he’s been a disappointing prospect.

That’s not the trade. The 3rd is to pay for the cap space. Ceci moves out so you can pay Bouchard and possibly add another forward as a UFA.

Three players from this draft could very well improve the team in the long term. We are years away from contending and this trade wouldn’t change that.
