Kawhi type trade
Sadly, Mikheyev is going to pull in at least $4M, possibly closer to $5M. He scored at a 30 goal pace / 50 points. Alex Killorn makes close to $5M but he's bigger and plays a different game. Mikheyev is fast, goes in corners, kills penalties and is well liked by team mates.
Why Trocheck? I don't see why he would be a great fit with Tavares.
And I agree - that Isles trade really undervalues Kerfoot. Can do much better - Clutter back is good but he isn't top 6 forward which Kerfoot is on almost any team.

The Last Retool
Appreciate the creativity but...that 4th line will cost games, Spezza hasn't played top 6 in 4-5 years. Dadanov for a top 6 role when he couldn't get one with the last place Sens?
Breaks up the team and the culture. Puts 2nd and 4th forward units into questionable territory, and brings in all new goaltending that could be great or on the IR most of the year.
And Vegas can't afford what they have let alone new contracts with higher cap hits.
The complexity of getting these deals done alone would make it nearly impossible.

Realistic Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueCanuck</b></div><div>So bring back the same team minus one of their best PK guys (Mikheyev), add an overpaid goalie to worsen the cap situation (Campbell), and bring in a guy that wasn’t picked up by anyone when on waivers last season (Myers)? & you wanna bench a young guy like Sandin? You expect this roster to be better? .. this isn’t realistic. Changes have to be made. You don’t go 0/6 in first rounds and keep going back to the same guys. Doesn’t matter how well they played, they need results. Not good feelings.</div></div>
Agree and disagree.
Campbell will get that kind of contract. No question. If he had been consistent all year we would be talking about $7-9M. He started the first half of the season in Vezina discussions. He had a great series. Leafs can win with that level of goaltending.
Myers might be an interesting experiment and interesting proposal. But unproven could only come back on league min. I would probably put him with Muzzin or on the third line.
They will lose someone this off-season. Mikheyev seems likely unless they move Nylander.
Biggest issue I see is bottom 6 are still small, skill guys. Love Simmonds but not sure he can be your only hitter. Robertson adds the problem - small, skilled winger who is the opposite of bang and crash. They need some size who can dig in the corners, push around big D and make Defences feel a 7 game series.

I had a similar question. No two players are identical but
Toffoli can pull a late first, 2 later picks, a middle prospect, and roster player.
Sam Reinhart pulled a first and a top goalie prospect.
Feel like this Nylander deal isn't that far off.

The Toronto trade doesn't work. They are a cap crunched team, taking on more salary and losing picks. If St Louis was retaining that works for TO but otherwise it create more cap issues

Ottawa Senators
Why the pick swap on the first trade? Seems unnecessary - Ottawa doesn't need the pick really - they need the players .
If you are Claude Giroux, never won a Cup and have 1 of maybe 2 more years of playing to go. You probably want to win one. With $80M in earnings, you probably don't need a specific amount. You want to win. So naturally, you go home to a struggling franchise in a smaller market that is hoping to make the playoffs?
Unless Fiala asks to got to Ottawa, I can't see them trading him. He is a good player and Minnesota needs more that just Kirill. But 2 good prospects and a 7th overall should get it done.

Biggest issue is that White buyout is $875k for 5 years. Next year it's $1.8M. Makes no sense for Mntrl - they can get him when he is bought out for cheap

And why give away Brown. He's not a huge cap hit, is a good 3rd line and PK guy. Been asked to do more and has done well
I doubt Philly sends their top scorer for a overpaid 5-6 D and a 2nd round pick. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>You convinced yourself of this?</div></div>

Interesting proposal. Probably need to do a bit more to get that Laine trade done. They don't need to trade a RFA. Laine would get them 1 or 2 firsts, second and third if signed away. A top 6/ top 4 and the second overall might do it. Cooley might fit better though than Laine

Yah, I mean Mrazek got $3.8M to be a backup so I am sure he will be happy with $4M and no security. Holtby played about the same stat line as Campbell 6 years ago.

That's a very Dubas 4th line. Three smaller players might not be the shut down team they need. Robertson seems like a waste on the fourth as a small, play making forward. Not sure he'll be a Marner, but playing him 7-9 mins a night in a shutdown role doesn't seem like a good fit.

Campbell probably isn't as consistent as Freddie and can't take the same workload. But he Is clearly a NHL starter. His biggest issue is staying healthy. I assume this is why Mrazek was seen as a good option to carry 35 games as a 1B. (That worked out well). Keep in mind he has been head-to-head with two of the best goalies in the league (Price, Vasilevskiy) and done well enough to win a few games (last year's first round wasn't on Campbell, this year's TBL match up he's held his own).
If the Leafs won't offer something competitive, he'll get a better deal elsewhere. Leafs have limited FA options and no one in the system ready. Leafs aren't in a position to lose Campbell and his agent knows it.

I haven't seen much of Puloch so I won't pretend to be an expert. But none of the metrics suggest he is a franchise or near to it level. Nylander was a point per game playing on the 3rd line (but aided by playing on an elite PP). His game isn't perfect but I think you have it backwards. Nylander for Puloch plus. Top 20 in NHL - I will say yah because he had one vote for the Norris last year.
Puloch is probably closer to Muzzin + in value imo (higher end prospect, mid-level prospect + late 1st).

Mikheyev scored at a 30 goal pace this year - which usually pulls in $5M+
Sandin hasn't been good enough for a serious bridge but should be able to get more than $1.5M He certainly has more upside than Liljgren.
For Toronto the Nylander trade makes no sense. Trade 25-30 goals for....stuff. Pulock isn't nothing but this is Hall for Larsson kind of trade. Taking on $6M on the back end must mean moving someone - Muzzin most likely.
Pulock isn't Pronger. That's what I would want for Nylander.

And why would we be resigning Campbell especially for that much?</div></div>
Freddy Anderson was a 918 S% over 4 years in TO, with a down year likely due to injury. He played 66 games on average. In 52 this year he received had a 922%. Anderson got 4.5M
Outside of Campbell, legit UFAs who could play at a contender level are Fleury and Holtby. I would say $4.5M would be low. He will get paid because there is scarcity and the bidding will be with a few teams. Goalies who leave Toronto generally see numbers get better.

I don’t foresee any d pairs being changed but Morgan and Ilya are not working.
I could maybe see:
Kerfoot Matthews Marner
Bunting Tavares Nylander
Mikheyev Kampf Kase
Engvall Blackwell Spezza
So far Keefe is making the right choices.</div></div>
Mihkeyev seems to play well with Tavares. Wouldn't be surprised to see him still on that line. Kerfoot-Kampf-Kase have done well together.
Engvall - Spezza-Blackwell are a good 4th.
I think it's mostly about fit at this point

Some more ideas
As an idea - Giroux would be interesting since he is a local 20 years ago. But I doubt he is interested in coming to a rebuild in a small market that might make the playoffs. More likely to stay in Florida or back to Philly. Not sure how he would fit into the youth movement as well - he would be significantly older than most on the roster.
Demelo was in Ottawa and seemed pretty happy to leave. Can't see him being a happy fit here.

SJ Bring in Marchment Severson JVR Trade Burns to a Offensive RHDman Needy Team
I have seen a lot of Devil's fans light their hair on fire for the idea of trading Severson. Trade might be on the low side - buy NDJs have said no to a top forward and 1st in the past.
Good thoughts on Burns to Pitts. I suspect it will hang on whether Malkin stays. If he leaves, they may look at a rebuild.
JVR at 24 goals this season (and same pace last season) shouldn't be underestimated. Philly was the second worst scoring team (only beating Arizona). He had over 10% of their goal production. They only had 2 20+ goal scorers! Why would any team trade their top scorer for nothing?
