Columbus isn't trading Jenner, And you're at least a minimum 1st round pick shy.

No way the Blue Jackets are trading Jenner, he’s the heart of the team and their captain. A Rangers’ second is also not far off from the Jackets’ third, and they already have a ton of young depth options.

I personally would not make that Leafs trade. Peeke is struggling to crack Colmubus D core. Leafs have a lot of defensive depth. They are just missing a top 4 dman to push everyone down. Peeke isn't atop 4 dman. Reaves cap hit can more easily be managed and burried than Peeke.
I assume some Leaf fans accept that deal, but I pass it quite easily.

I didn’t even see the pick included going to Detroit lol

Jackets would never consider this lol. Why are the jackets trading for a rental winger they won’t re sign when they have a better shot at the 1OA than making the playoffs lol

This might be unpopular, but this trade makes absolutely no one happy, not even Columbus. Retaining $4.5M for two more years is a bad idea, and trading your A-wearing top-pair D-man who's playing well, for a rental winger who likely won't stay, two late 1sts, 3 roster guys (one of whom we've already traded <em>for</em> <strong>AND </strong> <em>away</em>), and a single top prospect is absurd.
Should they take the deal if presented? Yes, absolutely, it's heavily in CBJ's favor. But no one likes it, and it's totally unrealistic to begin.

Remember when no one wanted him? He’s been performing over point per game since coming to Vancouver and definitely living up to his $8M. If anything he’s underpaid. He’s been the definition of heart and hustle. Dude wants to win and wants to do it in Vancouver.

Thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Now that's actually an interesting idea. My gut tells me we don't want any part of the Hertl contract, but my head says he's probably the best of the potentially available centers, and flipping Laine for a position of need could make some sense.
I think we'd be selling low on Laine, but he also hasn't given a lot of indication that he'll be able to get back to his high. If Hertl is open to waiving for Columbus...I think I'd take that. Definitely no retention either way, and maybe a peripheral prospect or pick to one side or the other, but it makes some good sense as a hockey trade.</div></div>
I think this move makes 100% sense for CBJ. You're kind of stuck already with a not great contract. As you stated the issue with finding centers is a real issue and honestly, he may be a perfect player to mentor Fantilli. Hertl's contract definitely isn't great, but when you look at how much the cap is about to start going up every year, it really won't be much of an issue going forward.
From an outsider, the issues with Laine is health and consistency. When on, he's a lethal player, but when he's not well... it's not great. If this made sense to SJ I think this is a fairly ideal situation for you guys. It's hard to find situations where you can move players making as much of them without it being super complicated.

Feels like a situation for a three-way trade where someone else gets Laine, maybe half retained or something by the Sharks, at the cost of a first and maybe some prospects to San Jose?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>Meh, that's debatable. It would be a protected 1st of course, but Picks take years to develop and CLB's cupboards are full of Quality Prospects as it is.
Just my opinion, but they should focus their attention on developing the guys they've already got and bring in a Mentor, like Lindholm in for them and who will also help keep Gaudreau, Laine and the rest of the Team Engaged and willing to turn things around. Hard to find and Acquire Quality Top-Line Centre's, so gonna have to give to get...</div></div>
if they change this years first for next years first and add another second could work
