WHAT AN AMAZING DEAL FOR THE SANDMAN

Yeah, and Hughes signed 2 years ago before the cap was set to rise significantly. The Hughes deal was good. So is this.

Not possible. Hamonic has a NMC. I'm sure that was his big requirement in exchange for taking less salary.

Boston needs cap space and they also need to fill their lineup. This deal does both at a minimum cost. If Boston just wants to get cap relief with no players coming back, it probably costs them more.

Bye Cat - Sign and Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MLevy613</b></div><div>I've watched Sokolov closely both in Belleville and his games in Ottawa. His skating has not improved very much. He was not impactful at all in his stint with Ottawa, and that is primarily due to his lack of sense in the defensive and neutral zones. In the offensive zone, at the AHL level, he has a nose for the net, and wants to be in tight and get those chances. At the NHL level, he was far too much of a perimeter player in the offensive zone, almost afraid to get in dirty.</div></div>
I liked his short callup at the end of this last year. He just needs to relax and play the way he can. But maybe he'll never get to that point. The bottom of the lineup needs to improve but it's definitely up for debate and adjustment.

He's not going to be a top 6 guy and he's never going to be fast, but his skating has been improving year after year. His 5 game stint in the NHL last year showed how he can contribute in the bottom 6 and provide some secondary scoring. Maybe he won't make it and/or maybe he won't be useful, but he's on the margins and he still has a chance.

Yup. The fact that NSH doesn't want to part with him is also exactly why Ottawa would want him. Without digging into who says no for what reason, I think it's fair value considering the long term signing as part of the deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>If you trade Cat, should look for a pick around 15 + a B level prospect or 2nd round pick.
I feel like Thomson + 2nd can return someone better. I also don’t want the Sens to spend anymore money on D, need to improve the depth up front.
You also overpaid Pacioretty. He probably gets 2-3 mill on 1 year deal + potential bonuses</div></div>
That's all fair. 1. It's hard to match all those things with a team that can afford him and staying away from teams in the Atlantic, which I think the Sens should do.
2. It's certainly possible and I think JBD would be fine as the 6th D, but I could see PD wanting another more established D and I don't want Hamonic back. Love the guy as a person, but I don't think he's keeping up that well anymore.
3. If Pacioretty would sign for 2-3 mil that would be great and I'd definitely do that. I thought I saw a 5mil projection on The Athletic, but now I'm realizing that maybe I read the wrong line. On my phone, the numbers are too small.

Honestly? Maybe not, but I think PD might take a lesser bid to move him out of the division. Also....I have no idea. I'm just making stuff up. I was 1. trying to recoup a 1st. 2. staying out of the Atlantic. 3. Looking for a goalie and I think Lankinen might be one of those late 20s goalies to suddenly come into their stride.

It's probably an overpayment for Bear. Never really sure how to value trades. I don't think Lassi for Bear straight up is doable, but a 2nd might be too much added. Anyway, it's just a thought. I think Bear could be good on Ottawa's 3rd pair. He shift JBD to the press box, but knowing the D, someone will get hurt within short order and that opens a spot in the lineup.

Maybe White will be bought out but I'm not convinced. Same argument applies. Why does he need to be bought when there is over 10M+ in Cap space?
Buying out White doesn't make the Sens better. Trading Zaitsev does.

OK. I'm trolling because I disagree with you? I'm trying to have a conversation here.
If that's a consensus trade for Fiala, then fine, whose consensus though? I don't think that will get it done. If my trade is an overpay, I can accept that, but I still think he'd be worth it.
I think Fiala is quite good. Would immediately be the best player on the Sens if they added him.

I disagree with your premise that Fiala is overrated. Plus Ottawa has more prospects than they have room for. Do something with those assets.

By popular demand, the White trade has been removed.
If Ottawa can bring in Giroux (unlikely, but possible) and trade for a top 6, in this case Fiala, then I think they'll move White out. But they could afford to keep him for next year if they wanted.

If Ottawa wants to move White, then it will be for cap reasons. Not sure they'd take cap back. Better to buy him out or sell low and trade for some draft picks. It's completely fair if a trade with Montreal is not realistic. As I said above, just threw that in based on rumours of an almost trade. Been lots of suggestions that they'll buy him out, but I'd rather they buy out Murray. I like White. If they can't get a good RW, I'd be happy to seem him with Tkachuk and Norris.

Only thing is...I'm not sure if he's a true 2C, he hasn't shown that yet and MTL can't keep putting 3C filler in 2C like with Dvorak.
Maybe armia or Hoffman and a pick for white? That would be more feasible for MTL caps situation.</div></div>
But not at all useful for Ottawa. No way they ever touch Hoffman again.

TBH, I only used Montreal as a trade partner because of the previous rumours. I think there could be a market for White. I don't know what the value is. Doesn't really matter. That's not the focus of what I'm looking at for the Sens. Make the top 6 better and the bottom 6 improves by default. Get rid of Zaitsev however you can. Manage the cap as needed and if that involves selling low on White, so be it.

Yeah, yeah, I knew the White trade was a stretch. Rumour was it that Ott-Mon were close to trade involving White already once this year. Would not surprise me if they circled back. White is better than many people think. I'd want to keep him honestly if I thought Ott could manage his contract.
