Gearing Up
My takeaway from this is that Rangers fans are happy being in 5th and don't want to make trades to win a cup. Happy for another 1st round exit.
Interesting strategy. We'll see how that goes.
As for the OP. This would be smart for Toronto cause they just don't have it this year. But I'm not sure they are sellers. NYR would be crazy not to take this. Bertuzzi is above a PPG in the playoffs, Domi also has a stellar playoff record, and Robertson is arguably a better prospect than Kakko or Cuylle (at the very least with less TOI he's outscoring them) a 1st to NYR as well. I hesitate to use strong language but if NYR got offered this it could be a fireable offense to turn it down.

Canucks won't trade Suter, change him to Aman, PDG, or even Lafferty and I think VAN agrees.

Fire Shanahan and Keefe FAST
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rajvinder</b></div><div>It's been pretty well reported that Shanahan had the power to fire Babcock. He did it and since then ownership hasn't allowed anyone with term on their deal to be fired without Larry's permissions. That is why Nick Nurse spent a year coaching the Raptors talking every game about how much he hated coaching the Raptors and didn't believe in the team's direction and wanted to leave without getting fired.</div></div>
The main reason Babcock wasnt fired was primarily money and the Leafs performance in certain games of the Boston series specifically game 5. Only when they lost 6 in a row did MLSE realize we got to do it.
If you got a year left wont mean you aint fired if the team sucks
Ex if Leafs lost 6 in a row this season early Keefe would have been gone but they didnt. Heck we saw it with Woodcraft in EDM
What Babcock did teach is no more crazy big coaching deals which was why Keefe got 2 years
The Nurse thing was different as Masai isnt the kind of guy to do that. He doesnt like change on the fly.

Yeah, the real issue is he isnt very good and costs too much for how little he improves the team

He does. He did the same thing last year too. Mid December is when he finally got his stride.

I don't think anyone drafted outside of the top 10 should ever really be called a bust. Draft pick value falls off quickly after the top picks

Kevin Weekes said yesterday that he spoke to someone "inside the Kane camp" and Toronto is someone he is "very" interested in and the team is negotiating with his agent.

Playoffs
No disrespect meant for Minten but he is only 19 so Hawks probably wouldn’t use him this year anyway. & the Hawks already have Moore & Nazar not to mention a few others in the organization. Your view of the Hawks 2C is from too limited a POV. Could he end up being better the all the prospects Hawks already have? Sure. Likely? Not very at all.
Hawks hang onto Jones until they have a someone ready to be the new number one guy on D in the organization.

The cap doesn't matter, but the retention spot does. We have a fair few of our own assets to ship out.

Rule Changes To Improve NHL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boltsbeathabs</b></div><div>Ahh the Toronto fan crying about the cap screw everyone but the big markets or teams with owners who this is a toy for. How about getting guys more worried about winning than getting max dollar. When you're top 3 guys make over 40% of your cap you can't put a good enough team around them to win. (That 40% is now it was even higher as percentage when they were signed . Manage your cap better Toronto.</div></div>
Making things about the Leafs only despite the fact other teams are mentioned. So what if the person's a leaf fan anyone can make suggestions concerning hockey
Classic hater talk lul
This was just someone trying to make suggestions on how the NHL could improve even though the suggestions werent the best.
Lets not go making about us as we be now charging rent for people blabbering about things not concerning them alone as in the end every competitive team would love extra cap space

Based on Insights and Rumors
While a good description, I think the Leafs decline for one main reason, Sammy. I fully expect Sammy to get back to playing good hockey soon. I am hoping both him and Woll push each other to be better. Skinner just scares me even though the potential could be there.

The only realistic trade deadline 3
We will just try this again seeing as how just repeating ourselves on here seems to be the new M.O.
The Flames are going to get better offers than that for a half retained Tanev. There are teams desperate for a defensive stud that plays a ton of PK, no chance they settle on an expiring UFA journeyman and a bottom of the round 1st.

Doug Wilson Level Thinking

Dorion is clueless most of the time but when did he offered a pick to take on Joseph? Before training camp? Joseph has made it very clear that it would be a mistake to pay to move him
So thankfully teams asking for more is saving Dorion from himself once again (and thankfully he has not accepted to pay more because that would have made his long list of ultra terrible moves). Hopefully he realizes that he has no choice to move Kubalik at a discount

New team
Congrats on the new job.
I don't see Garland staying up on the top line. I could see them trading Beauviller maybe, though I like the guy.
I think PDG has made a strong case for staying on 2nd line left of Miller and Boeser. Mikheyev is either top or third line.
Dhali and Donnie were saying that the Canucks are working the phones looking for another RD for a trade. Saying they are one of 5 teams talking with Bear. And if Soucy is injured then they need to make a move.

Small Pre-Season Moves
If we're giving up a 1st for Peeke, the trade should be similar to what we offered for McCabe.
Needs to be mid round picks coming back maybe 2 4ths or 2 5ths.
A 7th doesn't do any justice.
On top of that a serviceable 3rd/4th line player.
But if I were TOR, I'd trade a 1st for a veteran top 4 defensive defenseman like (i.e Tanev, DeMelo)

All in Today
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CodyR</b></div><div>Why?</div></div>
I can only really speak for the Jets.
Winnipeg declines because the only piece the Jets are interested in is the 1st rounder. The jets have their roster for this year, there's no room to add another three forwards. Also, every trade for Hellebuyck will involve a goalie coming the other way. Elvis isn't enticing enough (compared to the goalies other teams would send) to move the needle.
And as per usual, if the Jets trade Scheif before the deadline, they absolutely need an established top 6 centre coming back. Vilardi and Perfetti are not going to hold down the fort at centre this year. Not getting a top 6 centre back for Scheifele is basically giving up on this year before it even starts, which the Jets ownership can't afford to do.
