If the Caps still had Forsberg, the roster would probably look a lot different than it does today. Probably no Oshie at the least.

Good call. Also opens up almost 100k in cap space, and comes closer to replacing Gudas' style of play and his right shot in the lineup, if not necessarily his skill and experience.
Ordinarily it'd be obvious to let the younger guys develop in the AHL, but with so many good LHD prospects, I mean, maybe bringing one up to practice with the Caps is the better learning opportunity?
Hershey still has:
Alexeyev-Johansen
Nardella-Lewington
Geisser-Williams
Bindulis
...plus whatever UFA veterans they add at the last minute.
Could be an interesting battle in camp, at least.

I’d take Mitch Marner over this whole team therefore Marner is worth 30 mil. Hopefully Paul Marner sees this comment

I agree. I really hope they can scoop Byfield. Biggest weakness right now is the lack of a true number 1 down the middle. They still need one of their goalies to reach out and take that starter gig, bit I'm confident that at least one of them will prove capable.
Beyond that, they have the centre depth, they have the wingers and they have the Defensive prospects.

how its probably going to be
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrandonDubinskyGOAT</b></div><div>Backstrom should likely demand maybe 7.5-8.5 million.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>Backstrom makes 8.5-9m. More than likely 8.5 million. His first deal was incredible and the caps owe him some money.</div></div>
Regardless of what Backstrom comes in at, I think the important thing here is that Holtby walks and the Caps don't make any other big moves. Having the extra cap space certainly gives them the chance to be more of a player on the trade market and free agency, probably to get a solid tandem goaltender for Samsonov.

At the deadline if depth scoring is an issue
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>I think Caps MIGHT not score as much goals but they'll be stopping a lot more goals against so it will be okay. Doubt we'll be starving for goals that we'll need to make a trade.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rayquaza649</b></div><div>I like this trade even though i doubt it would happen, unless we are really crunched on depth scoring</div></div>
Agree to both - I posted a similar response in one of the other Caps ACGMs. I think we stand pat at the deadline unless there's a really good addition to be had. I really like the attention that the front office put towards shot suppression and PK in the bottom six.
I think if we dip a little in scoring, we should be able to hold a top 3 place in the standings in the Metro with a better defensive team. We were 5th in goal scoring last year, but only had a goal differential of +26. If we're like 8th in goal scoring and 8th (from 13th last year) in goals against, we're better off than 5th and 13th. Not to mention our biggest weakness as a team was the PK, which was 24th at 78.93%. The bottom six should be a pretty formidable group of PKers, especially when you add in Oshie and Wilson to the mix.
