Would not be surprised if he starts off in the AHL at center until the injuries start up.

He's not going to waive after only one season. I'd rather buy out Ericsson then retain half on him. When has Holland ever retained half on a player with one year left? Never and he wont do it now. Ericsson has a 11 team trade list and i don't see Anaheim being on it. And Kulikov is trash no use for him if we're dealing Green.</div></div>
This is for next season (19-20), you don't expect Green to be traded at the TDL of that season? Thought that was the whole point of bringing him back for 2 more seasons. Retaining 50% would not be for the entire season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>yeah I hate to agree but I think zadina isn't starting with the big club as of right now. I think he goes to grand rapids for atleast a little while. I cant see svechnikov buried on a 4th line he needs better offensive linemates to see if he really can play in this league or not. its definitely his make or break year and I hope he gets 35 or 40 games playing higher in the line up to see if he has what it takes. Nows the best time to find out. against my better judgement sulak is getting me excited for a d prospect and I hope he gets a shot this year. I think we'll see him and maybe hicketts in the line up to start the season.</div></div>
This is what I think Blashill is heading towards like I said, I would have Svechnikov up somewhere else just not sure the coach can bring himself on putting both Helm and Abdelkader on the 4th line. I am actually half expecting him to play Abdelkader on a "2nd line" and slotting Helm up to a 3rd as well somehow.

Difference would be the defense of a contender vs the defense of a rebuilder. I for one don't say that about them though.

Indications are he will report and have a physical, if the doctor says he is unable to play because of his back then we would probably be placed on LTIR.

I guess just about anything is possible but the biggest thing I find hard to believe in this whole rumor is Nyquist and Helm okaying a move from one dumpster fire to another dumpster fire. Helm has his money I guess but Nyquist has a chance of one more good contract probably, just seems like he would want to go to the best possible destination to pump in some points for contract talks. Of course maybe the Habs are planning on giving him his money, who knows.
All of that said I don't like sending draft picks out on top of Nyquist right now, Wings need to keep accumulating picks and prospects not sending them out. Would rather send Nyquist out and get something back for the future, don't think the Wings need another 30 year old regardless of talent level when you consider where they are.
So this move is exactly what both teams don't need right now which means these two GMs will probably do it.

There may be a maximum of 23 players on each Club's playing roster at any one time from the commencement of the NHL regular season through the trade deadline. Prior to the start of the season, each Club must submit to the NHL its "Opening Day Playing Roster" which shall be comprised of not more than 23 players. Each Club must have a roster of at least 20 players, composed of 18 skaters and two goaltenders. Players on Injured Reserve do not count in the 23-man limit.

None of it is pretty but they will have room relatively speaking next year, Kronwall and Nyquist coming off the books and Howard will either not be signed or if signed at a lower cap hit.

Holland paying for his poor cap management
My whole thing about trading AA is they better get something back better than a 2nd round pick who might never play in the NHL. The kid produces for them, work on his weaknesses if they want to but put him with quality players and let him go. Then they can trade him when his stock is higher if necessary. Trading Nyquist is the not same as trading AA, Nyquist can walk and they could get nothing for him but AA will still be a RFA after his two seasons are up. If you can improve the roster then fine trade him, but just to ship him off for a magic bean I don't agree with.

AA For D Prospect
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffbry</b></div><div>And you can't retain more then 2 salaries</div></div>
What is a retained salary transaction/trade
When a team trades a player, they have the option to retain a part of their salary (and cap hit). The team who retains the salary then pays the retained percentage of the salary, and also retains the percentage of the cap hit until the contract expires. The following requirements must be met to retain salary:
The percentage retained cannot exceed 50 percent of the player’s salary (including all bonuses) and Salary Cap Hit.
The same percentage must be retained for both the player’s salary and Salary Cap Hit, and cannot be modified.
<strong>All teams are limited to a maximum of 3 retained salary contracts per season.</strong>

Carolina - Fleury for Nyquist?
Honestly, Nyquist floats and other teams see that. If Kenny can swing him for a D that would be great but I am not holding out hope, think Tatar is a better candidate if it happens. If a team comes in for Nyquist they only have him for 2 more years with a big juicy NTC attached to him meaning he could walk for nothing in return.

Just a minor detail, if you are swapping Green for Fayne I don't think retained salary is necessary. Wings are essentially retaining $3.65 million ($2.5 million) by taking Fayne off their hands.
