Strange that Holland would sign 3m Bernier and 3m Vanek this summer and risk losing a young player.
I can see the signing of Bernier with the injuries Howie has had lately. I agree concerning Vanek unless Z is LTIRed. I enjoy the off season, seeing how teams tweak and build their rosters, and, of course, the time leading up to the TDL.
My whole thing about trading AA is they better get something back better than a 2nd round pick who might never play in the NHL. The kid produces for them, work on his weaknesses if they want to but put him with quality players and let him go. Then they can trade him when his stock is higher if necessary. Trading Nyquist is the not same as trading AA, Nyquist can walk and they could get nothing for him but AA will still be a RFA after his two seasons are up. If you can improve the roster then fine trade him, but just to ship him off for a magic bean I don't agree with.
Larkin can go to 6x6, and the Wings would have more remaining cap space after that than they do in most years (they'll have 6.7mm after putting Franzen on the LTIR). They could move Frk and Wit to the minors for almost done. Why would they dump AA for cap space?
If you want to see how, I posted an example here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/159739&post_id=548879. This one has Z "retiring", but you could put Z back in, and move Frk and Wit out, have a roster of 22 players (about par for the Wings), and still have Zadina, Ras, and Hronek in the lineup.
The false notion that the Wings are in cap trouble in mind boggling. They signed crap contracts, but they've gone into seasons with WAY less cap space in previous years then they will this year.

The way the LTIR works Fransen needs to be on the roster 1st day of the season before he is put on LTIR to maximize his money to complete the lineup. You just can not put players on LTIR before the season and use the money during the season. Look at the Cap Friendly's explanation of how it works. If they sign Larkin to 6+ million it complicates the cap and they will have problems
Did you put Franzen before the season opens. If so then the can not t use his money to get other players on the roster.
