Not a chance tat Brodie fetches a 2nd and a 5th. Tor would likely have to add a pick to unload that cap hit.

K'Andre Miller is a bottom pairing defenseman in NY making almost $4M a season who struggles big time defensively. I know exactly who he is. Fox, Lindgren, Chychryn, & Trouba would be NYR top 4. Chychryn at $2.3M would be a bargain as I said Ottawa would be paying 50% of his salary for this season as next. Ottawa also pays 50% of Tarasenko's salary for this season. NYR have $15M in cap space next season to fill 9 spots.... with Lindgren, Schneider, Kaako, and a backup goaltender to sign. Adding Chychryn at $2.3M and removing Miller's $3.87M & Laffrenierre's $3.325M allows NYR to actually sign their players. Kakko, Schneider, Lindgren, and a cheap backup goalie? Is the bare minimum $9.5M after their 10% raises. Doesn't leave much to fill out their roster with.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AG_sweden</b></div><div>Nope not happening for NYR. That is too much for no improvement.</div></div>
No improvement? Chychryn is an upgrade over both Lindgren and Miller.... Plus you get him for 50% of his salary against the cap $2.3M for 2023-24 & 24-25. Tarasenko is an upgrade over Laffrenierre who you're going to have to re-sign in a year where you have to re-sign Lindgren, Kakko, Schneider, and still fill out the rest of your roster with 13 players signed and only $15M in available cap space. Getting Chychryn for $2.3M and Subtracting Miller's $3.87M as a bottom pair defenseman lets the Ranges actually do that. It's a good trade. Ottawa is the team taking on the risk.

Byfield has 66 points is 163GP... Something like that.... Stutzle has 221pts in like 250GP. L.A. would have to pony up a whole arsenal on top of Byfield to pull Stutzle out of Ottawa. 14G 33PTS is Byfield's career high and he has done it this season. Stutzle will likely land in the 90-95 points range this season on a weaker team than L.A. The Kings have Kopitar, Dubois (unmoveable), & Danault as the 3 top 9 centers for the foreseeable future. They also have Turcotte and Pinelli in the minors. Teams aren't going to take Turcotte for a top 4 blueliner like Chychryn... Pinelli doesn't have the value yet, as he is unproven. Byfield has very good value, but is also unproven. He does not deserve to be in the same category as Stutzle.... So it would make sense that Byfield would make sense. L.A. might not like it.... but L.A. isn't going to get the caliber of Chychryn for a guy like Turcotte....

Pierre Lebrun has brought it up a couple of times.... Once for Jusse Saros in Nashville.... Then I think it was for potentially Konecny in Philly. Chychrun for 9 seasons, Kaliyev and Brannstrom are an even swap of two players needing a change of scenery. Byfield won't be extended and will want good money after this season. So I think it's a fair swap. Ottawa taking on Kaliyev and his QO helps L.A. with their cap space to re-sign Roy.

Actually I heard they would be open to moving Byfield if the right player came along. Yes I should've included the 2025 1st rounder not 2024 But Ottawa would extend him in the summer for 8 years giving L.A. team control for 9 seasons. Brannstrom and Kaliyev are project swaps, and L.A. thriows in the 1st rounder for Ottawa adding the year of control and top 4 defenseman who are proven point producers are at a premium.

Ottawa passes big time on that trade. At the deadline alone they will be offered more than that. L.A. Would really load up and they have their 1st rounder which would be higher, and better prospects to move than Toronto does. Toronto would have to really step up their ante.

A few things.... Pinto would be a 2nd line center on most teams.... He could potentially be a 2nd line center if Norris is hurt. Centers automatically have more value. I actually like Raddysh but I don't think he ever rises above a 3rd line player.... I could be wrong for sure, just don't think he has much ceiling left. Pinto has a lot more ceiling left. Plus Ottawa has Jarventie, Crookshank, Sokolov, Pettersson, Ostapchuk, & Boucher for wingers that could potentially play on lines 2-4. Ottawa would likely prefer a center if they are moving Pinto out.

Would depend on what Vancouver is willing to send Ottawa's way. He's a 2nd line center on a lot of teams... So long as Ottawa is winning I can't see them trading him for the sake of getting rid of him. Ottawa still probably couldn't fit Garland under their cap. It would be closer but likely still $750K or so over the cap with that proposal.

Yeah Ottawa would decline that trade for sure. Garland is a piece that Dorion kind of likes. He seems to like those style of players. Aman is intriguing as well, but Ottawa couldn't take on Garland's contract unless it was cut in half. Which I can understand the Canucks not wanting to do. Just doubt it would be a fit. In the past Dorion was open to trading Pinto provided the other team took on cap and offered Ottawa an NHL ready prospect. Someone like Lekkerimaki which I'm sure Vancouver wouldn't want to surrender but that's what Ottawa seems to be wanting for him and I can't see them trading Pinto unless they get exactly what they want. Helps if they keep winning to with Greig as the 3rd line center.

Yikes that goaltending tandem looks scary... plus Edmundsson, Hakanpaa, and McCabe look scary on defense. Talbot is brutal, even at $1M Leafs would be better served butting that money towards someone else. Plus Nylander will likely land in the $10-10.5M range. He will take one look at Huberdeau's contract and that will wreck havoc on the Leafs. Noah Gregor will likely be looking for more than $775K as well

Fixing the Cap 6
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>Keeping Chabot in Ottawa is a LOT LOT LOT more important for winning games than keeping Kubalik who would put modest numbers this season because no PP time and who would walk after the season because he is UFA and Ottawa won't have the cap space to re-sign him (unless that's what you would want to do with the 5-6 M$ in cap space Ottawa will have?)
When you have a 2 M$ problem (that shouldn't even exist, just sheer incompetence by the GM), you don't trade one of your core players to fix it.
That bottom-6 is terrible again.
Chartier is a 4th line player, that line wouldn't produce much offense.</div></div>
The Chabot issue is to figure out the 3 LD playing in the top 4. Seems it's Chabot that is getting squeezed out. If they are removing Chabot from his offensive duties? He's not worth $8M. I'm a huge Chabot fan, but I am a Sens fan more. I would trade anyone and everyone to bring a cup to Ottawa. But if they are paying Chabot $8M to just be a 4th defenseman? Send him somewhere he will get his PP time, and be played in the role that got him to the NHL. His defense isn't good enough to pay him $8M to just take regular 5 vs 5 reps. Might as well add a guy like Parayko who can kill penalties, be a defensive presense to one of Sanderson or Chychrun.
Based on how Joesph is playing he should be good for 15 goals and Kubalik for 20. With Norris hurt Kubalik will get PP time to add some goals. There aren't many teams that have 3 centers that can play in the top 6. The teams that do are cup favourites.
Plus it would look more like this;
Tkachuk - Stutzle - Tarasenko
Greig - Giroux - Batherson
Joseph - Pinto- Kubalik
Chartier - Kastelic - MacEwen
That is still a formitable top 9

Very true.... not sure why I thought Leddy played both sides.... but was naturally a righty... So you're right it would have to be a situation where St Louis knows they aren't making the playoffs and bites the bullet to be exactly where Ottawa is right now. Ottawa has 3 LD (Chabot, Sanderson, Chychrun) one has to play his off-side which right now is Chabot. Hence why I proposed Chabot moving on because he seems to be the guy getting squeezed out. But he is still an elite defenseman, just losing in the numbers game :s

Brannstrom Trade
I doubt very much Ottawa surrenders Brannstom and Kubalik. That is too high a price to secure Pinto on a short-term contract. Brannstrom plays both LD & RD and is the only defenseman in Ottawa's system capable of moving up into the top 4 in the instance that one of Chychrun or Chabot get hurt, which is inevitable as both seem to get hurt every year. Kubalik plays both wings and even though he starts on the 3rd line, he can play on the 2nd line and 2nd PP unit. Pinto is valuable 100% but he's not so important to gut two very key depth pieces from the lineup.

He does have one piece of leverage, which is too often overlooked on this site.
And that is a refusal to sign what is offered to him.
If Josh Norris' shoulder injury recurs or another centreman gets hurt, we might need Pinto more than ever.</div></div>
I don't agree with that.... That is the point for keeping a guy like Kubalik around. Ottawa has options... You can move Tarasenko to play with Stutzle and Tkachuk and move Giroux to play 2nd line center.
Tkachuk - Stutzle - Tarasenko
Greig - Pinto - Batheson
Joseph - Chartier - Kubalik
Kelly - Kastekic - MacEwen.
Those are lines I believe Ottawa can live with. Do remember Pinto has to be signed by Dec 1st or he cannot play in the NHL this season. Ottawa does not have to sign Pinto for exactly what Pinto wants. He's 2 years from arbitration and 2 years from being allowed to have an offer-sheet submitted. This is the drawback for burning a year off your ELC coming out of college. The teams have to stand to benefit as well. Pinto burning that year comes back to hurt him now. It's just business....

Chabot is a top 15-20 RD</div></div>
I agree Chabot is the better defenseman. However I think haveing 3 elite LD defenseman will eventually become an issue. Parayko is still a solid defensive defenseman with a booming shot. We do lose a bit in the talent Chabot has. But the cap is cut by $1.5M, both have similar term on their deals. This also fixes Ottawa's dispertion on defense. 3LD 3RD. St Louis according to a buddy from work who really follows his Blues.... are looking for a big time defenseman on the backend. Parayko, Krug, Leddy, and Faulk are all 29 years+. Ottawa can afford to move on from Chabot and I'm a big Chabot fan I have his jersey. But Sanderson isn't going anywhere, Chychrun has been piling up the points, Chabot has lost hios spot on the PP.... So just reading the writing on the wall.
Someone mentioned Paraykjo might not waive his NTC then so be it... But if he is willing? I think Parayko and a 2nd rounder for Chabot will suffice. In saying that? One of Ottawa's 2 1st rounders would havge to be spent on an incoming impact defenseman for the future.
