I think Dallas considers that and maybe counters with a high prospect plus a 2nd or 3rd.

I’d rather buyout hamonic and forsberg. It’s cheap and they don’t have to send away draft picks.

No worries, I just don’t see them moving Blackwood. I could see them doing this with Vanecek though

As a hawks fan I would take that, but not sure Ham would waive for us. I like him as a 7th d if we bring in another RD in FA, but he is certainly an upgrade on our defense from this season lmao.

Pass on Wennberg. Rather just keep Pinto in the top 6 and find a winger for the middle 6. Also buy out Korpi instead of spending a 1st.

At first, I mis-read the pick headed to CHI to take on 4 years of Korpisalo; I thought it was OTT's 1st rounder (!) Hence, I thought that if I were the Hawks I'd pull the trigger on this deal and figure out what to do with Korpisalo, later. Upon further review, of course, I saw that the 1st rounder contemplated here originally belonged to BOS. Ugh... Big difference - prolly the #7 OA vs #26 OA.
I doubt a low 2024 1st round pick is enough for CHI to take on Korpi's four years.

I think it's more of a buyout Korpisalo and trade/bury Forsberg situation.
Agree with all your points though

That may or may not be enough to dump Korpisalo, but CHI doesn't really need or have any room for a goalie as things currently stand.

I have nothing against the Sens or any team signing UFAs. But the Chychrun trade is so impractical for any team to consider....besides the Sens.</div></div>
term on good deals is certainly a bonus, it's what makes guys like Hagel worth the haul that Chicago got for him. but I'm not sure why we're pretending like a guy having 1 year left on his deal suddenly makes him like, dead weight in trade value or something

I’m not saying that this is a hyper realistic ACGM or whatever, but the thing you find wrong with this is that a player with a contract costs assets to acquire… and rhst UFAs can be signed for free???

Korpi will be better next season, so I don't think they'll buy him out. If he still sucks next season, then buy him out. Forsberg for sure must go tho.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooster</b></div><div>I’ve paid pretty close to TB this year and know the exact role Nick Paul plays. He is an incredibly versatile centreman who can also slot to LW as needed, and plays specialty minutes. But in TB depth, he slots behind Point and Cirelli on any given night, hence the 3C designation. This is not debatable, unless you think Point or Cirelli slot lower. And to argue so passionately about Perbix reminds me of Sens fans arguing that Brannstrom is a legit top 4 guy.
Listen, I like both of the TB players, but if Brisbois was ever offered this deal, he should jump at it. Chychrun is entering his prime years and would be able to shelter Hedman’s minutes as he inevitably faces the aging curve.
At the end of the day, maybe we disagree on this deal. All good. I’ll be a tourist in the playoffs again as a Sens fan and am hopeful that the Lightning can take another run with this core.</div></div>
You're pretty spot on with your analysis. While I doubt Ottawa would offer this deal, Tampa would easily accept based on the reasons you provided. Perbix still had some positive value, but despite what that other poster(imo it's in your best interest to ignore them) thinks, Perbix has regressed this year and is not a top 4 dman at this time. He could rebound as it could just be a rough 2nd full year, but as is he's a liability most nights for Tampa as of late.

If you paid close attention to TB you would realize he has spent a very high portion of the season on the second line with Stamkos a guy who regularly flips between 2nd and 3rd lines is the textbook definition of a " middle 6" player.
As for Perbix he leads the team in Blocked shots 2nd on (+-) which isn't an end all be all stat, however amongst teammates it's a decent comparison he's also 4th TOI. Is around a 30 per 82 point guy, but yeah he's just a 6/7 defenseman🙄.
We can agree to disagree but you are incorrect. Thank you for the respectful disagreement and have an awesome day. Btw when I used the word ignorance in a prior post I used it in it's true meaning (lacks knowledge).

And obviously a deal like this would come with an extension for Chychrun who is actually a top 4 dman on any team. So yes, that’s my take. And it is brilliant for TB as it leaves your top 6 and top 4 untouched.</div></div>
Yeah, provided the extension with Chychrun was in place, Tampa accepts this imo. Perbix is definitely a 3RD and while Paul has been very solid in his role, replacing him would be far easier than getting g a top 4 dman long term.

Trading Chabot AND Chych
I think there's a bunch of reasons why this doesn't work for me.
First off, I don't think you want Sanderson with Karl. It sounds great in theory, but in my opinion, if Sandy is out there, you want the puck on his stick as much as possible, and the same is true of Karlsson. Zub is such a natural compliment for Sanderson, I think any blueline adjustments start by understanding that this pairing is the only thing that works. Don't mess with it. Keeping those two together, I really don't see a combination that works with Karlsson. No coach in the league is putting the Eriks together for any length of time, and Graves-Karlsson already isn't great for Pittsburgh.
If you're keeping Brannstrom, you want to keep him in that same role. He's really good as the 3LD. If you're adding Karlsson to the mix, you want to bring in someone to be that Philips/Kuba/Methot type who really brings the best out of him. If you could add Jamie Oleksiak and Karlsson, then I'd be comfortable moving Chabot and Chychrun. Then you look for a 3rd pair guy to play with Brannstrom. Guys like Chatfield or Desharnais would fit in nicely with him imo, and probably fit the price point better than DeMelo.
The one sticking point that I've gone back and forth on all season is what to do with Chabot. He's a great hockey player, even if he's far from a perfect one. He has stretches like his last 15 games or so where he genuinely makes his contract look like a bargain, but he's also got warts in his game, particularly away from the puck. I also have serious concerns if he's ever gonna be healthy enough to be a guy you can rely on in the post season.
Also the Graves deal is just... bad. Definitely not touching it.
I think if there's the right deal to bring Karlsson here, and the right deal to bring in a great fit to be his partner, then you seriously consider making it happen and moving Chychrun and Chabot to make it work, and keep Branny as the 3LD. I think by far the more reasonable turn of events is Chychrun gets moved, Chabby stays, they go out and get the right guy to be Chabot's partner, and then address the 3rd pair. I kind of think Brannstrom is gone and they look to add size to the 3rd pair.

Will We Ever be Good Again
First off, I am a little jealous of all the talented players you have on the Sens. That being said, the Sens & Sabres rebuilds are a bit of a cautionary tale. If you look at Detroit for example you might say they did not follow the "rebuild playbook" most teams seem to embrace.
But selling all your veterans and purposefully & perpetually losing for 5+ years to stockpile young talent is a bad strategy. Valuing youth above experience. Valuing talent above grit. It rarely works, but it seems like the league is addicted to this idea. Fans points to Pittsburgh & Chicago and say this is how you build a modern dynasty. But those Pens teams, they didn't only win with Crosby, Malkin & Letang.
Pittsburgh had Guerin (age 38), Gonchar (age 34), Gill (age 33), Boucher (age 35), Cooke (age 30), Dupuis (age 29), Fedetenko (age 30), Eaton (age 31) when they won their first cup of the Crosby dynasty.
Yes Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Fleury formed the Elite nucleus of the team, but they were surrounded by a veteran core with an average age of 32-33, and since paying the young core priced all the good vets out of the team, the Pens have limped along, never quite good enough to win the last game of the season.
Not even Crosby can do it it alone.
