New lines please
Signing Tyler Biggs was the better joke.
I agree with a new 3rdC but Bozak can't play on the 4th at that price.
I'd look for a speedy center that can play decent defence and win some face-offs ( under 4M cap).

Maximize Assets!
I was about to say that I thought Hockey's Future was dead, but it looks like they've just changed to a forum format.
As I recall Igor Shesterkin has been highly touted as a potential elite goalie.
That being said, goalies are an enigma. Garret Sparks is destroying the AHL right now, but in TO he's considered a backup at best.

Hey Doug7004 what about this
Am I the only one that remembers Vanek as being a guy who puts up solid numbers during a season but vanishes as a rental?
I'm wondering if Arizona is switching gears and looking for more established players instead of prospects?
I feel that Arizona has a better prospect pool than most people think considering they're always selling at the TDL and draft.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were looking for a player more like JVR (as an example of calibre) instead of another collection of picks and prospects in a trade.

Nice little 3-way?
I agree Athanasiou is a "bright spot" which is why I think he can help the Leafs as a Bozak replacement/upgrade.
How much more do you think Athanasiou is worth?

Nice little 3-way?
Originally I thought it could go down like this:
TML = Athanasiou
Pitt = Bozack(50%)
DET = Leivo+ 2nd (SJS) + 2nd (Pitt)
However, that would leave Detroit with 4 2nds in 2018.
I was trying to think bigger picture for all teams, as it still opens the door for more trades for each team.
Toronto gets a center they can use going forward without hindering their playoff run. They also keep their 1st in a deep draft to continue the rebuild. And, they still have the ability to make a move if they wish.
Pitt drops down in the draft but gets Bozak who has worked well with Kessel and can help in the playoffs. They can also make a few more moves because Bozak is 50%.
Detroit gets Leivo who is a good 3rd (with a year left), they move up to another 1st, and get a 3rd for next year. And, they can start their retool with a few more options. They could flip the Pitt 1st in a trade for a better player/pick.

With the (unlikely) Tavares signing
John Tavares is an incredible 1C that makes any team better. If we didn't have Mathews it would be easy to lock him up for big $$ if he went to FA.
However, with this team, and Mathews being better than expected, Tavares is a luxury that would be too difficult to make work.
I think Kadri has changed his game (better defensively) and his contract is team friendly.
Instead of going with the 1a - 1b centers, it may be more effective in today's NHL to look at spreading the money around in a 1 - 2a -2b scenario with better wingers.

STL would probably be the last team to want Weber and/or Price. Though great players, STL are already stacked at RD and Allen is a solid goalie at a decent Cap.

Toronto would do this trade with retained salary if you replaced Hagelin with Sheahan. You could even swap the 2019 2nd for the 3rd.

Max Domi
I think Domi would bring a lot to the table for the Leafs. He agitates, with the skill and grit (see his Kessler KO) to back it up.
He also has played Center in the past which adds a little insurance/options.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMhockey99</b></div><div>Leafs would sell a lot of Max Domi jerseys</div></div>
I also agree that Zach Hyman is better for the team than people realize.
In terms of what he would cost... Unfortunately you usually pay more for a player if he's not being shopped to you.
You'd need to send something back that you wouldn't want to part with, probably.

Possible Karlsson trade? pt 3
As a Leaf fan, I don't think that's enough for Karlsson, and the Leafs would need a cap dump to make it fit.
Liljegren is really good prospect, but he had a down year in his draft year playing only half the games. (and, let's not forget where Karlsson went in his draft)
He's not the next Karlsson, but he should round out to be a solid 2-3 offensive D.
Kapanen is a good top 9 player and Bracco has yet to prove what he is (imo).
I think that 2nd would need to be a 2019 1st.

Karlsson Trade (read description)
On the other hand, having Hedman and Karlsson in your core would be unreal.
Playing them on different lines would allow you to balance their minutes, extending their longevity.
I think adding Karlsson outweighs the "potential" that those prospects carry, and the low 1st rounders wouldn't be missed.
Down the road you could deal another forward to help sign Kucherov.

I think you'd need to add the 2019 1st and Cal Foote, probably more.
The bigger question is how do you sign everybody in 2 years?

2019 Contender
I think Dumba and Gardiner are closer in talent, but Dumba being RH is more valuable, and the 1st would be a low pick anyways.
Trying for a top tier RHD would cost us Nylander/Marner and picks/prospects. And, the cap hit would be in the $10M range.
Signing Jumbo and Bozak (would he accept for a chance at a cup?) for 1 year gives us options, and we need to sign Mathews and Marner the following year for $$$.
The Martin trade isn't even needed, but I heard Isles fan say they'd take him back for a pick.
The main idea is to upgrade without creating cap anchors down the road.

lets get dahlin
Leafs wouldn't do OEL for Marner + Liljegren, and you'd have to take Horton instead of Lupul.
Arizona might be better off just trading their 1st and OEL+ at the draft for whomever is picking 1st overall (unless ARI is 1oa).

TML2
Ya, the Bozak trade is lopsided, and I should probably add a 2nd.
I think the Arizona trade is good for them entering the playoffs this year, especially with (3) 2019 2nds.
The Florida trade:
I know Ekblad has had injuries, but I think in TOR he can be relied on less with our system. His cap hit / age/ value fits perfectly for our team going forward compared to the Doughty/Karlsson idea.
I think Bjugstad is an upgrade at Center, but having a down year.
Tippett projects to be a high end winger, but Nylander's potential to be a Center adds to his value.
Overall I think FLA downgrades at D for a Large upgrade at Forward, while the Leafs do the opposite (for the interim).
