Probably right but not the point. Point is trading Grundstrom to free up a bit of cap space.

Not many suitors right now, so he might not have alot of leverage. But even so, at $6.5, still not bad for L.A., even if he is a defensive liability. Besides, the whole team is an offensive liability. It would be nice to see someone score.

Yikes. So there's PL's perceived value, and his true market value, which seem to be lightyears apart. WIN wants X, but what will they actually settle for? So what does WIN do, get what they can? Let him walk after the season?

Playoffs. By definition that means competing for the cup. Long, long shot but not #30th.

Also by the time the team is ready to compete TT might be 5 or 10 years older</div></div>
LA has #1 prospect pool, they're not that far off. 2-3 years. Besides, by that logic they should be shopping Kopitar and Doughty. If it's a full rebuild then no one should be safe.

Why Trade Toffoli
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>are you new to contracts?
It might have to be due to the fact that if they don't trade him, LA gets nothing? Gambling on a guy resigning as a rebuilding team is a very risky and almost dumb move to make.</div></div>
It's not gambling if they sign him. Seems like he wants to stay in LA and they might be able to squeeze a nice home town discount. He's traded he's not coming back because he'll get more playing the field and LA won't be interested later.

Sorry quit
If you can't trade him, which is the preferable route (and take just about anything you can get), buying him out is nuts. If you're going to do that just put him on waiver and he and his contract will get snatched up. He goes through waivers, no biggie, team saves about $1mm. He might just retire rather than do that. Really, no bad options right now.

Rangers
But aren't you forgetting NYR get hammered next year on the buyout with more players to sign. Forbort is 1 year and Rempal is cheap. Rangers only delayed their problem until the end of the season. What? Buyout Smith next year?

Kings Trade
Kings are taking on alot of $$$ and they'd have to dump some, otherwise it's close and they might not do it. This has a ripple effect so they can resign Trouba otherwise it's pointless for NYR. The NYR 1st rounder is mid-late based on their line up and the Breadman in town and KK. They're a playoff team and need that push now because HL ain't gonna be around forever. Besides, Forbort and Lewis drop off after this year and Campbell is UFA so NYR gets $5mm cap and loses $6mm with ****tenkirk, that's an $11mm wing in 1 year! It's a no-brainer for NYR, but questionable for LAK.

Toffoli at Deadline
Deadline deal so you'd have to assume Toffoli is scoring 20ish goals. Forbort ain't nothing great but he's solid D been playing 1st line minutes for 2 years. I think it works for both.

That's a nasty top 6. Although I might break up Carter and TT. Wasn't LD 2nd line center? I'd put him back there and have Carter on RW and TT 1st line with McJesus. Either way, I think it's an improvement.

I saw that too. It seems silly that EDM would rather JP walk to Europe than get something for him. I think they're just going to have to accept Lucic is not going anywhere without substantial $ retention or a fat sweetener.

Philosophy shift in L.A.; they're forced to play the younger guys. I think expectation is L.A. poops the bed this coming year for another high draft, meanwhile giving the children some ice time. That seemed to be Blake's "plan" and Todd must have been on board or he wouldn't have come. My guess.

Forbort 1st line D. LaDue 3rd line. Maybe dump Campbell and the 1st and put in Toffoli.

Right, it's nuts. But with LA and OTT eating 50% it's doable. TML can't buyout Marleau. It still ends up saving TML about $4mm this year.
