Imho its too soon with Seider. Hes a great Dman with unlimited potential, but with 13.1M in cap space, you can pretty much replace him with any Dman in the league with experience and skill. Imagine someone like McAvoy, Letang, Josi, Hamilton or Hedman instead.

Habs pass on all 3 of the trades, save for the Nashville one potentially.
Calgary: We dont want Monahan, hes a pure cap dump and we need to save money, not spend it. Valimaki does not compensate that contract, especially for one of our better prospects and someone who we just paid a 1st + 2nd to earlier this year. Its too soon to trade him at a loss.
Detroit: Seriously? Even Romanov for Fabbri 1:1 is a loss for us. People were talking about how Lehkonen got overpaid from Colorado, but Fabbri is a worse player being paid more. Avoid this trade big time. Gallagher is the only dump here, and hes still got a lot of value in our locker room. Its like a case of trading Byron in how hes got more value for our team than for other teams.

Petry isnt a cap dump and Weber is pretty much in LTIRetirement. Poehling is literally 23 years old and developing really well. Hell a 1st for Fabbri alone is a scam for the team getting him at that 4 million cap hit for 3 more years.

Multiple 1sts for a 26 year old whos a career 0.5 PPG player. You're crazy. Thats like us asking more than a 1st with a highly capable top 4 D, a big, young two-way centre, and LTIR relief for Lehkonen.

The Kulak trade was an insane overpayment imho, but the Lehkonen trade was a little bit underwhelming.. but I also need to look into how good Barron is projected to be.

With how Shesterkin is playing, they have to make a push. A major part of the TDL are the politics in play. Many moves are also made for PR and to make fans come in and watch. If you see a team not make a move, doubt the fans and/or media would like that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>I’m not sure the caps are adding. Their GM has seemed to figure out that they just aren’t a contender this year. If they make one add, it will probably be a goalie. Definitely not moving a first rounder in any scenario.
The rangers and aves are two teams that i could absolutely see having interest. But both have other holes to fill, particular the aves. I don’t think they’re going to spend the capital on a third line winger.</div></div>
We'll see. Everything I say about these picks also include swapping them out for the equivalencies (Prospect worth a 1st for example). Rags do need help on 5v5 and the PK, so Lehkonen should be a higher priority asset in that regard. Colorado could also use that depth from what it looks like.
Now for the opinion, the Caps should still try to push as far into the playoffs as possible while they still can with their core. The timeline is closing in on them pretty fast.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>What? Hagel had 21 goals through his first 55 games in his second season, with similar intangibles, and then theres the contract to consider. Hagel is a very very very bad comparison. About the worst you could find.
Now, in a vacuum, it really does look like the rental market has been reset this year, so maybe the request is…i don’t want to say reasonable, because its not…but lets say close. But this isn’t a vacuum, and every seller needs a buyer.
Who is this buyer that you think would be willing to give up a 1st and a 3rd?</div></div>
Cant predict the future, but I could see either the Rags, Caps, or Avs be the final 3 in the running. I know both the Caps and Avs were interested in him a few years ago too so I would not be surprised if they made a splash for him, especially considering both of them have been pretty quiet so far.
Its worth noting that the Habs are definitely not getting less than a 1st for him, it seems like they really only want to trade him if the return is good enough, and there isnt much of a rush in doing so compared to someone like Chiarot (UFA Rental vs RFA).
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>Hagel shooting 23% is somehow sustainable and he's done so for less than a season. i get his contract is great but that was the definition was selling high. Lehkonen is a better player in any large sample size. They are quite comparable. Makes me laugh when ppl dont get that this is the market. very few decent young middle 6 forwards with team control available with a low AVV, Hagel and Lehkonen are those forwards which creates an inflated market</div></div>
That Hagel trade definitely set the market for depth wingers, and its proving that this deadline is a buyer's market. If you go back into my trades, I valued Lehkonen at around as Kravstov (high 1st/low 2nd). I would still personally be happy with that return now, but underwhelmed, just like the Toffoli trade.

For an RFA with insane defensive stats and a great transition game while on a mediocre team who is liked by pretty much every coach hes been with and who can play up and down the lineup with almost anyone. Yes a 1st and a 3rd is more than fair for him. If he was 3 years younger for the same stats he probably would've gotten more than Hagel.

If the Panthers knew that Giroux would only waive his NMC for Florida
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>Interesting point. I tend to think of future firsts as having less value, but I suppose that if you are comparing it to the very late first that this years pick will be (which the Sabres own), suppose it could be better to have a pick in the future. Also, as a gm you run the risk of acquiring future assets that the guy who replaces you gets to spend. I don't think it's a bad trade, especially since the door is still left open for giroux to return to Philly.</div></div>
The way I see it, I can compare it to the MTL-CHI trade that happened a few years ago (to an extent), with Danault and Weise. GMMB chose to get a 2nd round pick a few drafts after that upcoming one and it ended up working out very well for him as we got Romanov from that pick.
It can be the Flyers GM not being good at negotiating, it can be him respecting Giroux's wishes, or it can be him betting on Florida's downfall. I dont think the Flyers immediately lost, but we will only really see in a few years.

Main reason I believe this is a fair trade that could learn in Philly's favour is because of the fact that the 1st rounder is far away. Florida could potentially not be a good team in 3-4 years since a lot of their core players will need significant pay raises by then, so theres an actual chance that the 2024/25 pick could be near the top 10.
