I’d rather just give Krug what he’s looking for and keep the assets honestly.
I mean he and OEL are the same age, both struggle defensively. Why give away the assets? If they are willing to bring in OEL for 8 at 8.25 then there is no reason not to sign Krug at 8 for 7.5. 🤷🏻♂️ Makes no sense. Unless they can get the retention, but Zona is on record they don’t want to retain. Can’t blame them. 8 years.

Markstrom isn't signing that cheaply, He'd just stay in Vancouver at that price. And why would Calgary have any interest in a self centered Tuuka Rask?

Calgary - Where we are on July 13
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flamesfan419</b></div><div>The one thing I worry about going forward with this team is Johnny Gaudreau. For all the hype over him and the contract he was given it's time for him to step up his game and start being a 30+ goal man and pushing the 70-80 pt mark on a consistant basis.
Personally I think his size is a huge negative for a team that wants to go deep in the playoffs. It's so far been proven that if you check him tight and tough he pretty much disappears. Before the rest of the league catches on to this I see him having big trade value to bring in a bigger winger to fill his spot.
I even feel bad for Monahan because I think JG is holding him back from reaching his full potential. That line needs someone who will go to the front of the net so Sean doesn't have to take the abuse.
We seem to have all the defense any team could want, but if we still struggle to score goals, the defense means nothing.</div></div>
I agree 100% on JH. But the issue isn't just that he is small - its that he is weak... Almost playing scared... As to trading him before the other teams catch on - that boat has sailed - SO - how do we turn his numbers around....
Tkachuk + Mony + Lazar/Foo/Brouwer/Poirier/Ferland
(Mony gets the tough winger - and 3rd highest assists in 1st year!)
(let camp decide the RW for lines 1 and 2)
Johnny + Bennett + Ferland/Poirier/Brouwer/Lazar/Foo
(JH is now sheltered on 2nd line and playing with 2 edgy forwards)
(JH needs to be taught to not shake his hand every time he gets slashed - weakness)
Versteeg/Jankowski/Lazar - Backs - Frolik
(The 2 M's play with a vet or train another rookie! My vote would be for a rookie)
Versteeg/Jankowski/Lazar/Stajan + Stajan/Lazar/Jankowski + Ferland/Poirier/Brouwer/Lazar/Foo
Don't see Freddie or Garnet cracking this line up other than as # 13 or 14...
As for bringing in another RW... Just don't see this happening - Limited Cap Space - Cap need for next year - Plus Foo/Poirier/Ferland
(Calgary's RW is a lot stronger than at the end of last season)
"For those that have been - out of the loop - Poirier is back in the picture as he is back from rehab - expecting him to make an impression at camp this year!"

Flames Available Cap Space Assessment - At Least This Minute
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jcambers</b></div><div>Why break up the 3M line - Tkachuk, Backlund, and Frolik were great last year. I don't see why everyone is so content on breaking that line up right now.
Though I'm not set on Ferland stick around on that 3rd line, until we can upgrade the RW position (and dump Brouwer's contract?), the line-up looks fine.</div></div>
Completely disagree. If Calgary wants to contend they need to have 3 solid lines 1 2 and 3! To do this we will need to do some juggling... Look at the pens... Best players are not together! It makes the team harder to defend against!
Only thing you are missing is Foo (unless you have him spending his 1st year in the A? Can't realy say if he is NHL ready as I have never seen him play?)...
And yes please call up Bart and send Anderson back down (kid needs 1-2 more years of seasoning before he is ready.

Treliving, please buy out Brouwer
Where to start.... NO the flames will NOT buy out Brouwer! 1 bad year... How about we give him 1 more and see if he is still on the 4th line then... Not sure but buying out a player UNLESS it's their last year just kills to much cap space. Next, Calgary did not pick up Lazar and Foo for them to sit in the press box or ancore the 4th line! They will both be give there chance to play - and in the top 9!

second chance team, go to broke
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skylardog</b></div><div>Like Benning would try anything.
I like the thought of taking a chance on Yakupov. Doesn't make any sense for most teams but for a desperate Vancouver it makes total sense.
Until Benning is gone just kiss any hope of improving goodbye. The real question is if Linden should be cut loose as well. The whole management team lacks the experience to deal with the task at hand.
On a positive note, this is the last season for the Sedins. Brighter days ahead.</div></div>
I agree, this is a big improvement, but like you said, this will never be attempted as long as the current management team stays in place.

Let's try this again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snobalt</b></div><div>There's absolutely no reason to mess with the 3M line. By keeping Tkachuk on it, the Flames have all the "grit" in the top 6 they need. Grit is pretty overvalued anyway, as several grinders have significant holes in their play, such as Tkachuk's penchant for dumb penalties and Ferland's limited offensive skills.</div></div>
There are a number of reasons to put Tkachuk on another line. Backlund and Frolik can still be very, very effective at both ends of the ice while insulating/developing a young player (Lazar or Jankowski). It makes sense to average out your top 3 lines (SEE: any team that's made the final 4 in the past 3+ years).
Otherwise, the above lineup looks pretty standard to me as a realistic opening night roster. Nothing crazy.

What if....
The trade with Calgary doesn't work
You're giving them a bunch of decent pieces,
But they give up the 2 best players in the deal
Couturier + might be able to get ONE of them
The "plus" is gonna have to be better than 3rd round picks & 3rd line players though
Do Calgary's lineup after this trade & you'll see it makes zero sense for them

Thumbs down on all 3 trades.
Giving up Jankowski is not worth dumping Bouma's contract–for Gudas as the return, no less. If you wanted Provorov, that could justify it (note that he'd still play on the middle pair, as Brodie is better on the right side despite being a lefty).
Rangers most likely say no, as I envision them wanting a bigger return. In particular, adding Poirier does little to sweeten the pot, especially with him having spent most of the season on personal leave.
Minnesota also says no; as cash-strapped as they are, they'll drive a higher asking price for sure.

If this offer was made, 7.75m a year I don't see how Boston could match. It is ridiculously high offer, the type of offer that hurts Calgary in future years. It also cause conflict within the team when in few year other RFAs want big raises, but the Flames can't pony up and can only offer bridge contracts.
