Hamilton Trade-and-Extension With the Jets
I really don’t see why the Jets would do this. Hamilton is good yes, but to give up a 1st line winger who is locked up for 5 years in Ehlers, a 50 point pace defensemen in Pionk, and our best prospect in Heinola for him? Also a 1st. Bean adds some good value, but Dzingel and Fleury aren’t more than a 3rd liner and 3rd pairing defensemen respectively.
And to give Hamilton the 3rd largest contract for a defenseman? Karlsson had 2 Norris’s and 6 60+ point seasons when he signed, Doughty had a Norris, 2 Cups, and was one of the best defensemen in the league for about a decade. Hamilton doesn’t even come close to that, he’s had a good run of 40-50 point seasons, but nothing really more than that till this season. He shouldn’t even be paid more than Josi, who has been a better defensemen for longer.

July Playoff Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>I think we beat cgy. However, if we want to get past STL, hellebuyck needs to keep playing at an elite level, that top pairing and 2nd line need to pick up where they left off, and finally kulikov needs to be consistent. There’s some games where the guy looks like a top 4 d-man but others when he looks like he belongs in the AHL. Otherwise that forward core is as good as any and the bottom pairing is a very good 3rd pairing.
Of all of those listed conditions, the most important is hellebuyck. The guy will make or break our playoffs</div></div>
At least for the first time all season, we should be able to roll 4 lines assuming Little is back which would be a major help. But yeah it's going to be the Helle show for sure. If he shows any rust from the break, we're screwed.

I guess it’s because <em>ideally</em> Little is our 3C, with someone like a Stastny at 2C. But realistically that’s not gonna happen, so Little is the best we have right now.

Lehner won’t sign to be a backup and regardless we wouldn’t need him, Hellebuyck is going to play 60+ games and we really only need a cheap backup like Brossoit.
If Little is healthy, he’s 100% getting the 1st shot at 2C, Harkins would probably be 5th on the list after Little, Copp, Wheeler, and Roslovic.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DaBus</b></div><div>What about Samberg then?</div></div>
The Jets rate Samberg almost to the level of Heinola, he's not being moved either. Moving the 2nd up to a 1st probably make the trade fairer.

I think Gustafsson will replace Lowry after this upcoming season. He’s almost ready IMO, and should be a cheaper and younger replacement (maybe better as well?). I don’t think we see Perreault being re-signed either, Harkins should be the replacement there.

I like the Gawanke shoutout for the Jets. He’s got a big shot, something the PP1 unit missed with Buff gone. Could/should be a better PP point man than Pionk in a couple years after he works on his defense a bit in the AHL.

Hayes didn’t really fit in with the Jets that well, he had a good end to the regular season but found himself on the 4th line in the playoffs. If we could’ve re-signed Statsny that would’ve been great.

Also if you want to look at all of them together, I’d take the Jets simply because of the cap difference ($29.1M for the Jets vs $45.5M for the Leafs). The Jets could fit Wheeler and Hellebuyck in that $15M gap and still have room for 2 more ELC players lol.

whos better leafs vs jets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>firezfurx</b></div><div>Ehlers>Nylander makes no sense. Nylander was on track for 71 pts and almost 40 goals, while Ehlers was on track for 67 pts (A full 4 pts less!) but way less goals and a worse 2-way.</div></div>
The thing is when you’re comparing point totals here, you have to remember that Ehlers doesn’t play on the Jets PP1 unit while Nylander gets to plays on the Leafs’ PP1 unit. So for comparison’s sake, let’s just say Ehlers was on the PP1 unit in place of Connor, and you swap around their PP point totals (Obviously the point totals wouldn’t be exactly the same, but it would be close enough). Ehlers would have 6 more goals and 6 more assists, making his point total 70 in 71 games and would be on pace for 81 points (36g, 45a) for the whole 82 game season. So now with equal PP1 usage and 5v5 usage (they already play within 10 seconds of each other 5v5), Ehlers now has a 10 point advantage over a full season.
And even if their playing time wasn’t equalized, Ehlers is still the better scoring 5v5 player (2.71 5v5P/60 vs 2.41 5v5P/60 for Nylander).

What if we just said screw it and did 8 trades hhaha
The problem with Strome for the Jets is that there is no way he can consistently be a 50-60 pt player for the Jets. He will probably get around 3-4 less minutes per game than he is right now with the Rangers, he will be getting very little PP time, and obviously won't have Panarin. I also don't see him coming close to replicating Ehlers' production at 5v5, Ehlers is 10th in 5v5 scoring this year and 13th in 5v5 scoring/60. That P/60 rate is above players like Kane, Crosby, Matthews, and Huberdeau just to name a few forwards. He's one of the best 5v5 forwards right now and would be PPG/PPG+ if he actually got PP1 time. I just don't see why the Jets would do this.

Big trade with WIN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bunzy1034</b></div><div>Its sad in 17-18 he was legit a top 5 C in the league with a 3.5 WAR, why can't we get that play back :/</div></div>
It's because the team around him has gotten worse. In 17-18, our team was one of the deepest, especially at centre in the playoffs where we had Statsny, Little, and Lowry all able to play 15+ minutes if needed. 18-19, Buff, Morrissey, and Ehlers were all out for a significant amount of time though we had more depth with Hayes in for Statsny. This year - the obvious defense problem, injuries and no 4th line. Scheif plays the most 5v5 minutes of any forward in the league (17 min 5v5, 22 min/game total), we are overplaying him and he can't carry the entire team. He didn't have Wheeler for half the season, no Copp-Lowry to matchup against opposing top lines so he has to take them, and no defense behind him.
Essentially the problem is this: Maurice is playing Scheifele like he is McDavid when he obviously isn't at the same level.
