Kyle Connor - Read Description
Byram doesn’t make sense for the Jets because our two best prospects (Samberg and Heinola) are both LHDs who are both very close to being NHL ready. Sure they’re not quite at same level as Byram, but they don’t have to be cause Morrissey is already there on the 1st pairing. Trading Connor for future help where we already have quality prospects doesn’t make any sense.

I think there is a Finland WJC camp in July which would explain why he isn’t here, but don’t quote me on that.

Winnipegs Top Prospects Ranked
I still think Vesalainen is 3rd on the list. The Moose were really bad this year, Griffith led the team in scoring and only had 41 points, 11 more points than Vesalainen. This past year was his first year in NA after playing in the SHL, Liiga, and the KHL all before he turned 20; it’s kinda hard to adapt to NA hockey after playing in so many different leagues. He still has all the tools to be a top-six power forward, he just needs a bit of time to adjust.
With a full season with Gustafsson and Griffith, and on the PP with Gawanke and Heinola, I think he can put up big numbers next year. Just a bit of patience is required with him.

Connor’s only two advantages over Ehlers is his hands and net front finishing. Ehlers is a much better skater, better in the d-zone, and is a much better transition and neutral zone player. The only reason Connor scores more points is because he plays 5 more minutes than Ehlers every game and gets to play on the Jets’ PP1 unit while Ehlers does not.

Winnipeg Improves Their Defense and Pivots
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockyluv21</b></div><div>I think that Bean's likely to be a better NHL player than Samberg, at least in my eyes. He's only a half-year older than Samberg and was probably the single best all-around defenseman in the AHL last year. He's ready for a top-4 role right now, but he just needs a team with less depth on defense than we do (and TBF, we may have the best defense in hockey when everyone's healthy). Samberg is just a better fit for our slow-marinade of a farm system, and we're so loaded on defense that Bean is likely to be a #7 next season. This basically is Winnipeg's version of Gauthier for Keane: acquire the prospect that is ready right now in exchange for a guy that's likely 2-3 seasons away from contributing in the NHL.</div></div>
Samberg is a lot closer than 2-3 years away from the NHL, he may be even ready for a 3rd pairing role straight away. Even if he’s not, he’s at max 1 season in the AHL away from the NHL. Samberg is also closer to the ideal type of player we need for our defense (big, physical shutdown d-man) rather than another average-sized offensive d-man. We already have Morrissey, Heinola, Pionk, and DeMelo who are all average to smaller than average sized d-men. We’d also need to protect Bean in the Seattle draft and we wouldn’t have a slot due to us protecting whatever RHD UFA we sign/re-sign this offseason (most likely DeMelo).

Pietrangelo to Winnipeg
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Honestly I haven't watched enough of Strome play but I'm just wary of a few things like him not fitting with Laine and Ehlers or if he doesn't want to sign long term with the Jets, like I'm with you that they need to make a move and somewhat "go for it" but I really don't know if Strome is the guy I'd deal the 1st round pick for, that being said that pick is probably a Jet at the earliest in the 21-22 season and I think it's seriously wishful thinking to think a 19 or 20 year old, 12-15th overall rookie will step in and be a 2C instantly so they really don't have that kind of time to waste.
Really though I think if they can get some just average production from the bottom 6 the 2C issue probably really isn't an issue if Little returns and is 100%, if Little is done they really have to do something cause Copp just isn't a top 6 forward imo and who knows what happens with Roslovic, should be easier to improve the bottom 6 then acquire a 2C.
Have said it before but I think Haula is the only realistic option even if he is more of a good 3C, I also think Ehlers and Laine could turn a half point center like Tierney into a 50 point player but many would **** on the idea of a guy like him being acquired cause he's not really a 2C but if we're being realistic do we really think Tampa doesn't figure out their cap crunch or that Cirelli signs an offer sheet with the Jets? That Calgary might blow it up and trade Monahan? That in division trades of centers like Johansen are going to happen? I just don't see it, guys like Haula and Tierney are the only realistic options, I'd love Danault but he isn't leaving home. I really wish the Jets would scout the **** out of Europe and find some guy to provide some center depth.
Yup Demelo is no Pietrangelo but he's WAY cheaper and his deal doesn't interfere with raises for Laine and Pionk.</div></div>
Yeah I think the solution to the 2C problem is finding the right player to centre Ehlers and Laine, not necessarily the most talented. Like hell even Eakin was successful in his limited time with them and he was a 4th liner for the majority of the season. We need someone who can grind and retrieve pucks, have some playmaking ability (more than Copp), and isn't horrible at defense. The 2C doesn't need to be a 1B, $6M centre, hell they can be some other team's 3C, just someone who can actually find chemistry cause it's not easy to play with those two.

I mean I’d have Pietrangelo over Pionk for sure, but I’d rather have DeMelo+Pionk long term for $9M over Pietrangelo for $10M.

IF we were able to sign him (probably not going to happen it's Winnipeg lol) than we should go for it without hesitation. Plus there is a lot of dead money coming off the books with Kulikov, Lowry and Perraults deals all coming up by next year, especially if we get a CBO and use it on Little, we will have the room.</div></div>
I mean we could fit him in for 1 season like in this scenario, but where are we going to find the money for Copp, Laine, and Pionk? Only Lowry is off after 20-21 and Perreault is already being traded to fit him in for this season in his scenario. I guess Little CBO but then we have to find and pay a 2C as well, plus it’s pretty unlikely if the cap stays flat.

DeMelo is going to get a lot more than $1M, probably something in the $3.5M-$4M range. I just don’t see how Pietrangelo can fit long term when we have to pay Pionk and Laine the next offseason.

Maybe offensively but we need better defensive defensemen options like DeMelo more than an offensive guy in Deangelo. We already have Pionk for that role, assuming we re-sign DeMelo we have a shutdown partner for Morrissey, and already have a good cost effective option in Poolman for the 3rd pairing. No need to trade a 1st and our best prospect for Deangelo, who will definitely demand a lot of money this offseason.
