Theres a reason in the "NIGHTMARE" scenario. And bold words coming from the guy who posted a scenario where the penguins trade Laffy to your Canadians for peanuts of a return.

Penguins have Jared McCann (Who I almost guarantee we re-sign this offseason for probably 2.5-3m for a 1-3 year deal) and Teddy Bluegar as our bottom 2 Centers. Our top 6 is pretty much solidified right now and for the forseeable future, and if we lose to Montreal (Which as a penguin fan I will flat out admit our postseason Montreal record is abysmal) and we win the draft lottery it is set for the next 10ish years (However this is a big IF.) I dont see the benefit to getting Kerfoot when we already need to move Bjugstad and his bloated contract.

Sheary has been a different player when he is here in PGH as opposed to Buffalo, he is better suited due to the talent around him and not as much focus on him. He's never gonna score 25-30G in a season but if he can get to 15-20 he will be well worth it. Not to mention he is a UFA at seasons end, same with Rod so if it doesnt work out we have 5m in cap space.

Future
So if Bjugstad can be flipped for a late first I would have the Pens trade be conditioned with a conditional Third/Fourth coming back (Where if Bjugstad is flipped to another Eastern conference team the Pens get a Second/Third round pick in return). That or the 4th becomes conditional of 'If Bjugstad is flipped to another Eastern conference team the Senators instead receive a sixth/seventh round pick.' Since in that case you would have the Pens essentially giving the Senators more assets. Again just my personal opinion.

Now that's what I call YIKES Chief. The term is fine by me as I think Trouba is an EXCELLENT player, but 8m per season AND a NMC for all but 1 year? Talk about an unmoveable contract, Rangers are really banking on being able to fully build their team after Shattenkirk and Staals contracts expire in 2 seasons.

Tyler Perrys Haunted Graffiti
Don't like giving up Jordy in the Johnson trade when the Seattle expansion draft happens this upcoming offseason and we can just pay a second or third round pick to Seattle to take Johnson or Gudbranson off our hands. Feel the Rust-Fleury trade we would need to give up a bit more for them to take that. Like the TJ Brodie trade but maybe throw in a fifth rounder coming to PGH with Brodie? While I like the Winnipeg trade I am very reluctant at the moment to want to trade away a first round pick. The farm system is bare and we need first round talent to start developing.

As a Penguins fan, hard pass on trading a first round pick to get rid of Johnson when it will be cheaper to just sell him to Seattle at the expansion draft. If you want a first you got to take both Gudbranson AND Johnson at least.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>myteam</b></div><div>I am a fan of puck moving D that can score. Offense is the best D. Too much $$$ and term given to non core players is my issue. That’s why I moved them. Rust at 2.5 m, 3 years... ok. Hornquist at 6 m for 3 years .... ok. JJ at 2 mil for 2 years.... Tanev 2.5 m at 2.... ok</div></div>
JJ is going to be gone within a years timeframe, be it traded this offseason or given to seattle next season. That gets rid of him. Hagelin was not going to be re-signed, he is aging and his wheels are going to fall off sooner rather then later and nearly 3m per year for a guy who hasn't topped 10 Goals per season in the past 3 years and on a 4 year contract? So much for your 'Pay for future performance' take...
Hornqvist I can at least agree with you on, but his biggest flaw in his deal was the NTC, if that isn't there no one including myself is complaining because he is easily moved, Rust doesn't have a NTC and still performs excellently and is a flexible player on the right side that can even play with Sid, 3.5m for that flexability and a 20ish goal scorer with no NTC or NMC? I'll take that in a heart beat, but then again when he was signed he was less then a 15 goal scorer... Again so much for your "Future performance" argument since he did better after his contract.
And that brings us to Tanev, sorry but I like the signing given he has speed, he is hard to move off the puck and can use his body to protect the puck and is an excellent penalty killer. Plus kid put up career numbers this year.
Fully agree with your assesment of need for puck moving defensemen, but PK Subban is a defense liability worse then even Letang can be, overcommits on the rush and is a glorified goon. Him and Sullivan would mesh about as well as Sullivan and Phil did after Tochhet the intermediary left.
Edit: Just read your "Offense is the best D" Take and literally laughed out loud. The Penguins from 2011 thru 2014 proved that was BS, puck moving Dmen is one thing, you need to have them, but guys that overcommit on the rush lead to breaks and 2 on 1s like we had all of last season that cost us time and again.

Yup nothing like getting PK Subban to fix the defense...? A Worse defensive Kris Letang with an even higher cap hit that cant even QB the powerplay?
Lets also ensure we have absolutely no forward depth as well and pray that we get Gusev in this magical parallel world. Seriously I would prefer the penguins current roster to abour 50% of the changes you made.

20 games doesn't equal a 4th or a 5th rounder mostly because Gudbranson is making far too much. Hence the need for the ZAR sweetener and the third rounder.

Problem with keeping him is that Sullivan will want to play him nightly top 6 when he isn't worth that. And really with the Bellerive spot you can easily put Kasper Bjorkvist in his place, it was more a filler spot for our extra depth forward from WBS

Mario hughes pens 70
Oh wow a Mario Hughes team without a Phil Kessel trade, impressive.
In order:
Giving up a second rounder to get rid of Jack Johnson feels too light, definitely would need more and wouldn't go to a division rival
The Penguins want NO PART of James Neal at all, he's a hot head mess that costs his team all the time. No matter how much salary we shed at no time would GMJR or any Penguins fan would want him back
Why would the penguins want to bring back a now much older and overpaid Bonino for a younger overpaid Bjugstad even if it nets a second round pick return, don't get me wrong I am not the biggest Bjugstad fan in the world, but I feel he should be used to net more of a player for player swap. if nothing else the second round pick is definitely tempting in this deal.
Miller trade feels about right, maybe instead of the third Pens give up the Nashville second?
I love the Schultz trade but feel the team is wrong, switch it to Toronto and Im 100% Convinced it would get done.

It won't be this, but does something like Hornqvist, 1st, and a prospect get the conversation started? I don't really know, but I'd love to see Barrie on the Pens.</div></div>
See haven't heard that report that they are shopping Barrie. If that is the case and they want a tough power forward and Hornqvist fits their mold then fantastic. But for sure the trade talks would start with a 1 and Hornqvist at minimum and probably expand from there. And while I would love to see Barrie in a Penguin uniform I do believe its important that the Pens as a whole start coveting their first round picks and valuing them a bit higher over the next 5-7 years mostly because as it stands right now we are facing a bottomless pit coming soon if we dont restock WBS

Detroit isn't going to take on that much salary for less then a third rounder MINIMUM
Vegas has no interest in Phil after getting Mark Stone and locking him up long term
GMJR basically said after the draft Letang and Geno aren't going anywhere so that is out the window
Ottawa deal is the most plausible one out of the bunch but given Melnyk is a cheapskate owner he would kill the deal most likely imho
Anaheim is rebuilding for the future at this point and literally laugh at that deal given in no reality is Nick Bjugstad worth 2 2s and a Third. At MOST he would fetch a return of a single 2
To think that we would get Tyson Barrie for a 2, an aging Hornqvist, a 4th rounder from a trade that doesn't happen and a Goalie like Jarry is at best laughable. There would need to be a 1 going back to Colorado in this deal instead of the 4th. Everything else MIGHT work in this trade but its still a BIG might.

Toronto also desperately needs more defensive help and is more then built up up front. Addresses a need while subtracting from a position of surplus.
