I challenge you to make a better team under the cap

LOL are you serious? Do you watch hockey? You can only dress 20 players a night and Im not going to make a team with healthy Scratches thank you very much, So How about you take your innacurate comments elsewhere. :)</i></div></div>
What? I don't even know where to start.
You can dress as many players as you want as long as you are under the cap. Scratches take the ice, the pre-game skate and are dressed all the way until the puck drops.
Why?
What if someone gets injured during the warm up? Or gets injured during a long road trip during a back-to-back game situation. Think that farm call-upis going to be 100% at a moments notice flying 6 hours across North America?
You need at least one extra player and that extra player has to fit under the cap.
All teams carry at least 21 players under the cap. Most 22 or 23.
Once the puck drops, yes, 20 man roster. But up until then you need the insurance of "healthy scratches".

that would be the fastest team in the league. Maybe ever. Maybe they pull off a few of those trades. It would be nice. Might keep Bennet because of the upside and low cost associated with him. With a rising cap, Matta should be able to be signed next year as well.

Id be ok with that, but I think Detroit wants a pick for him because if they do this trade, they will just be in the same position with Cole that they currently are in with Kindl.

I really like this trade actually, both former 1st rounders that are struggling with their current clubs; however I think Cole's horrible year has hurt his value significantly so I would imagine a low round pick would have to be included but as a Pens fan I would be more than happy to get rid of Cole for Kindl and maybe a 3rd? Maybe it works out like the Hagelin and Perron trade and they both find their grove with a new team.

Nahhh, the only AHL'ers the Rangers have in their lineup are Girardi and Staal. :sarcasm

Thanks for the suggestion, definitely something worth considering, especially with the draft pick compensation rules

Fair Deal. Somebody will say that Neal is significantly better then Perron, but he isn't. They have similar skill levels, but people are unaware of that fact.

Worse D group?
I highly doubt Toronto is willing to retain $3M on a contract for 6 years when they are already retaining $1.2M for 7 years.
I think a more likely scenario is trying to move Dion at the deadline when a playoff team is desperate for a D due to underperforming or injuries

The Rob Scuderi Conundrum
DD and Stormm: Let's take a look at some recent other successful teams caps.
Top 5 players on each team. Hawks 38m, Pens 37m, Rangers 34m, Boston 33m, Kings 30m, Tampa 29m.
You know by reading Armchair GM the amount of effort it is by Chicago & Ranger "teams" to get under the cap. Boston had to trade RFA Hamilton for just draft picks, partly because his 5.6m salary (which he received from Calgary) would have impeded other signings.
I was singling out any player, but I tried to say, " collectively.....the Penguins top 5 salaries are collectively are high, which impedes their secondary signings."
Regarding Lunquist.....he might be the best Ranger in the past few years, but to make 8.50m a year when the next goalie makes 7.425 a year, gee Price only makes 6.5m, seems very high. See how the Lunquist contract looks in 2021 when Lunquist is 39 years old. Good luck to him, but it might be a drain on the Ranger as there is
no "cap" relief for players over the age 35. Geez, his contract (not necessarily his play) is a strain on the Rangers cap now.

The Rob Scuderi Conundrum
The bigger correlation is man games lost. Like you said, the Pens are in a tier of teams that spend to the cap and their core players are about as expensive as anyone else in that group. But injuries to the key players in this group have held them back.

Huge trade
Wouldn't this trade cause a riot in TBay with its fans. But if TB thought it couldn't sign SS at the end of the season, then it may be long term good for TB. Nice outta the box thinking Stormm. Think TB should say money in future years and not sign Franson long term.

No need to trade Lecavalier, you still would have about 600,000 left on your 16 man roster. With the 600,000 you could easily sign Dickie Duff, Eddie Shack Andy Bathgate, Bob Baun, Larry Hilllman. Multiple Stanley Cup winners from the 60s.

Wow you have overvalued Seidenberg and McQuaid. You wouldn't even get Marleau for Seidenberg, let alone Muller. Hell I doubt they'd even give up Muller for him. McQuaid that is also ridiculous.

hate the idea of giving up Pouliot but... if he was traded a swap like that would be one of the only ones I would have to accept as a probably good deal. Also, Braun is someone I think of too in terms of targeting via trade to bolster the top 4. Someone like he or Demers (DAL) would give our D the depth necessary to deal with any injuries (god forbid) that might happen

This is the roster after the moves seems good too me basically got 2 centers for 1. Fehr had same amount of points as sutter and better plus/minus. Will replace him on PK. Bonino had more points and better plus minus, plus they turn a 2nd into 3rd. Gets an a from me
