Liljegren has been the best defender on Toronto's right side - I'd say he's untouchable at this point.
No interest in Anderson and I would suspect the feeling may be mutual; he has a NTC and Toronto could be on it. Not to mention that 5 years of retention is a bit asinine.

Anderson has intangibles at least-- toughness, size, goal scoring. I still don't consider the trade in the slightest.

Anderson may be an upgrade over Kerfoot -- but different roles.
Schenn is not an upgrade over Liljegren. He hits, and is bigger. But can't skate at a top 4 level.
To give up your top D prospect, 1st, 2nd to make these "upgrades" is laughable.

TOR makes lateral moves now (at best), and gets worse in the future... makes sense...

Anderson can play. Is a fine middle 6 winger. At this cap hit, fine. There's just no way to reason giving up Liljegren, or Niemela in the deal-- let alone to replace with Luke Schenn.

Players Leafs need and dont need
Mostly agree... I wouldn't personally target Schenn as an upgrade with giving up assets for, but that just my opinion. His contract is low, so for the right trade price I guess?
I would also prefer to target Bennett as my #1 option, if available,--- if I'm giving up the number of quality assets that these deal require, would be nice to have for present & future. And he offers more flexibility IMO.
Meier's value has never been so highly inflated (even though I agree he's a great top 6 LW). His value in the market likely pushes TOR out of the conversation
ROR is intriguing--St Louis isn't THAT far back from a WC spot. Coming off an injury. Not sure St Louis will get the value they'd expect for him. Line configuration would be interesting with AM, JT & ROR @ C.
Barbashev would be a last ditch effort to find something.
Klingberg could be fine @ the right value. But I would want the price tag to come down before getting in the mix.

You know, I mostly agree with this. I’d probably switch Gavrikov and Schenn, but overall I agree with what you have here.

Well he costs at least a 3rd, probably a 2nd. It isn't worth it when we have the depth we already have

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Babatunde</b></div><div>I agree but getting Klingberg would be like getting a mix of Rielly and Tyson Barrie. Do we really want that? If you hated Tyson Barrie as a Leaf, you will hate Klingberg more. If you liked Barrie, then you will like Klingberg</div></div>
Barrie was awful as a leaf, but TOR played a terrible style for him. Barrie is a capable NHL D-man, who wasn't a fit.
If Klingberg can play with any level of structure, and then add some offense, it could work. But still, not at what the expected trade value is.

Nylander was that. He's been the most consistent player this season (and 2nd half of last season).
Nylander is also WAY more talented.

So a 4th liner that they waived because they dont have a roster spot, a guy who is at best a mild upgrade on holl a backup goalie and a guy who would be the leafs 8th best defender for all that?

I think 5 years is a little long for Hamonic and 4 years a little long for Clifford, but my main issue is with the $$$ for De Melo: I think he gets $3.5 million or $3.75 million, even in this post-Covid, flat-cap era. We'll see!
