Nah Brodie again has started to become an issue defensively he's starting to miss assignments or not be where he's supposed to. Hes creating plays here and there but in the Dzone has been caught chasing or not been where needed to often in last 5 games.
Leafs best games actually came with
Rielly-Bush
Benoit-McCabe
Edmundson-Lily
Edmundson's has to be in game 1. His net front clearing presence and ability to play playoff hockey and annoy other teams stars is what we need
We saw it in the EDM game he made McDavid and Draisaitl miserable
Rielly-Bush
Benoit-McCabe
Edmundson-Lily
That should be game 1

PLAYOFF LINES
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Rielly + Lily has not worked yet to this point in time. Jarnkrok hasn't really played C for the Leafs.
I doubt these are the lines.
I assume the D will be:
Rielly-Bush
Brodie-Lily
Benoit-McCabe
with Edmundson on standby.
Forwards are harder to predict but maybe:
Bert-Matthews-Marner (I think they go back together)
McMann-Taveres-Nylander
Knies-Domi-Jarnkrok
Dewar-Kampf-Reaves
Holmberg and Robertson on Standby.</div></div>
Why split up the new Matthews line that has been shredding opponents
Not a wise move
TOR has finally divided up the scoring threat to 3 lines. No need to move anyone around
Once Jarnkrok comes back Reaves comes out
Holmberg stays at 3c and Robertson is on standby
Bertuzzi — Matthews — Domi
Knies — Tavares — Marner
McMann— Holmberg — Nylander
Dewar — Kampf — Jarnkrok

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Leafs forward group has been generally very healthy all year. So we never really got to go through much of our depth. Unlike our d group. I am sure Steeves still has NHL potential but I am sure he is itching for a proper chance at this point. So we will see if he even signs with the Leafs.</div></div>
Guessing when a player is 23 or 24 career AHLer, his changes of becoming an NHLer are getting pretty slim. Yeah are forwards have been healthy, and then the added bonus of Holmberg, McCann and Robertson have shown they are NHLers. Kinda of my thinking that's why Bertuzzi isn't a Leaf next season for cap reason, and Leafs use that cap for needed RHDs.

Yep, there are always 900.000 wingers available. I'm kinda surprised that Steeves wasn't a Leaf this season. Guessing he has peaked.
Important years for Minten, Cowan, Niemela, Hildeby, Quillen. Leafs are really hoping they are NHL capable in 25/26. Sure would help with the cap and nice to young NHLers with potential instead of constant signing of fading 30 year old NHLer.

Because I dont see the Sens being good enough in the next 2-3 years and he only has 4 years left on his deal. Might as well push the contention window another 2-3 years and look to build a team that can be a longterm success with a good prospect pool
The other scenario is going on a 3 year window run right now but burning up all the future assets and that’s horrible longterm

I doubt they would trade us Broberg, if moved he will end up on some capped team looking for a defenseman. As a Flames fan I would do it though.

Looks the the coaching staff thought similar. Per Jonas Siegel these are the forward lines at practice. It’s nice to see them finally trying Matthews, Marner, and Nylander on their own lines for once

Laine and Roy and Lindholm
I say this on KJ trade proposals to MTL all the time, but it applies here: CBJ and MTL aren't good trade partners. We need similar things (high-end talent, especially among forwards), have similar things (a lot of young players and vets who are middle-6 or bottom-6 options at the moment, as well as full prospect cupboards, and a logjam of defensemen), and have similar timelines to compete (2-3 years).
If you believe Columbus is still 5+ years away from competing, then maybe it makes sense to grab a bad contract and some picks, but I don't think anyone in or around Columbus believes that. We need top-end talent, so we're not trading a Laine (whose value is down anyway, and we should just keep in hopes of a bounceback) or a KJ or any other young forward unless it's a 1-for-1 hockey trade of similar players, or part of a package for a legitimate upgrade.

Dewar - Kampf - Reaves/Robertson
Rielly - Lyubushkin
Benoit - McCabe
Edmundson - Liljegren

1. Keep the top line as is. It forces Matthews to play a more cycle style and be engaged in the play more opposed to having him wait for Marner to find him all the time
2. Matthews/Marner/Nylander drive their own lines (doubtful but it’s what’s best) - Marner’s gotta play in the top 6 and he’s had chemistry with Tavares and their play styles match. McMann has solidified himself beside Tavares so it should be a natural fit
3. Dewar is not count out of the lineup. He’s been a big reason why the PK has turned around and improved dramatically since the deadline.
4. Reaves should be in if they get Florida, and Robertson if they get Boston though I’d still lean towards Reaves either way a little bit. I think Jarnkrok might have a tough time finding a spot in the lineup because it’s really shaping up without him in it.
5. Liljegren has to play with a defensive guy that can clear the front of the net or he’ll get caved in. He only plays with Rielly late in games when they need offence but to start he’s looked good beside Edmundson

The way he looks right now and the way our C stable looks right now, I want Dean as 4C next season. He's a beast, and a responsible one. Wins draws, doesn't turn the puck over, makes the right decisions and oh my goot-ness he is a menace in puck battles. He can develop with us just fine.

I did the 775k retention so that he would be under Suzuki and Caufield. To keep the proper pecking order.</div></div>
Yeah, not really, that 1st is more important to the Habs than trading it with Gally to acquire PLD and I do t think PLD holds much more value than Gally at this point. The only reason I would consider Matheson is to free up a roster spot if either Engstrom or Hutson make the team but even then I would expect to get something significant back like a 1st or 2nd. LA gets cap flexibility and a top pairing 0.7 ppg D man but give up a young potential ppg forward on a really bad contract (right now) who isn't fitting well in their system. There is more risk here for the Habs then the Kings so a 1st or 2nd has to be added

If Hronek were a FA, I’d be more inclined but his contract demands are excessive for a guy that has yet to put up 50 points. I’m in total agreement on Roy or similar to play with Rielly; hopefully Lili can become the pick mover on 2nd pair

It fills a need, Habs need top 6 talent and like him or not PLD is top 6 talent. Also Habs need a center who actually plays the majority of a season, Dach has only played more than 65 games once in his entire career, he spends more time with the nurses then he does on the ice. Let him go play hospital with another team

Camp2024 Vets are getting nervous
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>I am in the small camp that thinks Columbus should trade Jenner. They could get ALOT for him at the draft. Especially if they retain 50%. I understand having good vet leaders, but a competitor would pay a ton for Jenner. Something I strongly think they should consider.</div></div>
Oh, they absolutely should move Jenner for all the obvious reasons (though there is no reason to retain 50% on a contract that cheap to begin with). The time to move him for the best return was this past deadline, tbh. But they won't for reasons unrelated to the on-ice product. They can't risk the optics and PR hit to a fanbase that's already angry. Plus there's the stadium series game coming up next March. No way they move the captain before the biggest league event the franchise has ever participated in. He genuinely means more to the franchise than whatever late first and prospect they might get.
I have never been particularly fond of him, and I think he became captain through attrition more than anything else. It's also not a surprise that the team suddenly looks like a competent hockey team when he's not playing 23 minutes a night in a position he's not suited, whether because he's out with a broken jaw or illness like the past two games. He's a good 3C but has no business at 1C between skill players he can't keep up with.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Ya he is a serious prospect.
There are some good pieces in there. They just need a true #1C and things will start falling into place. They have been using Jenner as a #1C but he is just a really good #3C.
Curious to see what they do. Maybe they would be a decent home for Lindholm. Lindholm + Jenner + Fantili is a decent trio. Could be a great trio if Fantilli turns into a #1C.</div></div>
Fantilli will be the 1C next year, He was on his way to taking it before the calf. (ouch) Silly looks like a lock for a mid six problem child C and Voronkov once he gets some faceoff practice look to be anywhere from a low 2C to a high 4C. God willing we win the lottery this year the future down the middle in columbus could be Fantilli Celibrini Sillinger Voronkov. Jenner could move back to the wing and I don't know how many seasons his back has left in it. Dudes a warrior but the less miles we can put on him now the better. Without Celibrini the future core down the middle is sold but not wowing. KJ could be a C option also if he can put on some lbs. Kuraly could be trade bait in the off season or TDL along with Provo and Ollie. All depends on how the new GM see the future.
