Dubois Trade

Description
Thoughts?

Montreal has so much defensive depth. Curious to see how they manage it. They are clearly missing star talent on F and on D. But they can package picks and prospects to acquire them or just see if they can develop those internally.

Habs decline.

Why give up a early 20s pick to just get a worse cap dump whos been a toxic teammate.

Habs fans have no issue with letting gallagher play out his deal even if hes overpaid he earned that deal with his blood.

Both teams decline. Bad Karma for the Canadiens, having avoided the oncoming train once, to step back onto the tracks in front of another, and automatic dismissal for Rob Blake after making that significant investment against what I am sure was the advice of at least a few people in the front office and then admitting the decision is a debacle. Better for Los Angeles to ride this out; after all, DuBois can get better, Gallagher can't.

IMO, LAK should trade PLD before his NMC kicks in, but not to MTL. Simply to **** with him, which I am in favor of.

This isn't going to be a popular opinion from either fanbase but a PLD for Matheson swap could work for both sides. LA could use a better top pairing LD and Habs could use a more durable center than Dach

Barring his own personal hubris it would easily make sense to do something like this.

Buying out gallagher results in a 13 million cap hit spread over 6 years. Only 1 season above 2.16 million

Pld is 59.5 million over the remaining 7 years.

You can find a better option than pld for 6.6 million. Thats not particularly hard. Even at the peak 26-27 you can replace a sub .5 defensive liability for 4 million.

They also need to reshap the teams spending. Once byfield gets his deal theres not going to be much cap space to improve elsewhere and thats with roy and no goalies signed. They have some prospects like clarke but thats a lot to ask to come in fill that gap especially when your running cheap goalies behind that dcore.

It was a move that didnt make sense when they did it and this year proved it to be true. Hes not going to be a 50 point guy even playing on the 3rd line as he was barely a 60 point guy with sheltered 1st line usage with obe of the best goal scorers of the last 5-10 years

Why would we take on a bad cap dump when we can trade matheson for actual assets. Plenty of teams would be more than happy to have a .7 ppg dman who makes less than 5 million

It fills a need, Habs need top 6 talent and like him or not PLD is top 6 talent. Also Habs need a center who actually plays the majority of a season, Dach has only played more than 65 games once in his entire career, he spends more time with the nurses then he does on the ice. Let him go play hospital with another team

Would you make the trade as I proposed here?

I did the 775k retention so that he would be under Suzuki and Caufield. To keep the proper pecking order.

Yeah, not really, that 1st is more important to the Habs than trading it with Gally to acquire PLD and I do t think PLD holds much more value than Gally at this point. The only reason I would consider Matheson is to free up a roster spot if either Engstrom or Hutson make the team but even then I would expect to get something significant back like a 1st or 2nd. LA gets cap flexibility and a top pairing 0.7 ppg D man but give up a young potential ppg forward on a really bad contract (right now) who isn't fitting well in their system. There is more risk here for the Habs then the Kings so a 1st or 2nd has to be added

If we need a top 6 centre why are we grabbing pld whos been below a .5 ppg 2 of the last 4 seasons and by every advance metric is terrible at actually playing centre?

I was responding to the thread created, it's not a thread for Lundell, Zegras or anyone else. I was proposing a trade involving the player in this thread, that's all.

And I pointed out your offer was terrible as we are trading a actually valuable asset for at best a slightly negative value one.

You said it fills a need while taking potshots at dach and I responded by accurately pointing out he hasnt been productive 2 of the last 4 seasons including the current one so that wasnt a true statement.

Has Dach been productive the last 2 years?! No he hasn't, any healthy player is more productive than Dach has been. I would easily trade Dach for FC since he is just wasting cap and a roster spot. At least PLD has points. Dach has 40 points in the last 2 years Dubois will hit that in just this season. Also, since you clearly don't watch PLD he has 3 60+ point seasons and 2 in the last 3 years, his career high 63 points was just last season, he has been more productive in this down year than Dach has been in 2 years, yet you are loving on Dach for some crazy reason
