Loophole
Acquiring Zetterberg would give them zero additional cap room effectively. They would take on the 6.0833M cap hit and in return get 6.0833 of cap relief, leaving them at net 0 from the transaction

3 players from all 7 non playoff team challenge under the cap
Replace Bowey with Hronek and Jeff Carter with Mantha to restore the Bertuzzi, Larkin, Mantha chemistry
Ninja edit 1: nvm just noticed the ELC rule... maybe I'd ditch jack Hughes if I was trying to win this year and replace him with a cheap defensive 4C
Nina edit 2: realized its 3 players max from each team. In which case I'd say swap out bowey for Nemeth, bump reinhart to C and swap Larkin and Mantha to stay under the cap

Detroit isn't giving up a 4th rd pick for a 32 year old plug

Its gonna take more than a 4th and ECHLer to get the wings to take on 4 years of Jack Johnson's contract

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooney</b></div><div>1) That seems to be a close value for what others are asking on here? I could definitely be off though, what would be more fair in your opinion?
2) In my description I said I agree that it's very unlikely. It would be smarter to sign a Top 4 defence for 2-3 years.
3) I think Cholo starts in the AHL but Lindstrom really made his case at the end of the year. For me, it's a toss up between Seider, Lindstrom or Bowey for that last spot. Since Bowey isn't waiver eligible and the others are, I say he starts with the Wings at least.</div></div>
1) Value aside, I just dont see the benefit for Toronto, they're making there roster worse just for a 3rd rnd pick when they're clearly in win now mode.
2) I wouldn't mind overpaying Krug heavily for less term and using him as trade-bait, but I doubt he'd leave Boston without inking a long term deal and a NTC in a city of his preference.
3) I see your point here, but Bowey just has no defensive instincts, maybe Yzerman keeps the Bowey project alive, but by now his leash has to be pretty short. I think cholo's learned what he can in the A at this point and needs to find a way to make it work in the NHL.

1) Why would Toronto make that trade?
2) I just don't see the value in paying a 2nd pairing dman that much for that long
3) I think cholo or lindstrom makes the roster over bowey

Detroit Draft Rankings Top 8
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>Just asking there are quite a few people who think if Detroit gets the #1OA they will still take Stutzle. I think they will go Perfetti before Holtz he is a center.</div></div>
Holtz being a right handed right wing is almost just as big of a need as perfetti at center. It's been a long time of having glenny as the only right shot forward in the lineup. That's not something to ignore.

Can basically make the same argument for Rossi as he's Austrian, but I dont think it's realistic to choose a top 4 pick based on a previous draft pick being a countryman of your former 1st rounder

Fair enough, imo theres zero chance that Laf, byfield dont go 1-2.

Compliance buyout
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>You're probably right but there are a couple of scenarios that could land him in Detroit. I hope Abdelkader would get bought out before Neilson.</div></div>
Nielsen has the bigger AAV, Abby has an extra year, so its 6 of one a half a dozen of the other IMO. I think regardless of buyouts they'll be off the roster and either retired, LTIRetired or in the Minors in the next 2 seasons or so given how many 1st and early 2nd rounders are waiting to come up from GR now.

What about Svechnikov and Smith? I agree that Krug is likely a pipe dream. Honestly, so is Georgiev, but just wanted to think of some ways to fill major holes in the roster.
