No because Waddell only does the Oilers favors and because the Leafs don;t want Nylander in the same conference also that value is very off Brodie prob goes to CGY or something. Remove Brodie from that trade and I think they might do it just because of cap problems but like I said both teams are in the Eastern Conference

At this point I think we just need to block all Canes/Leafs trades haha

Still no. We can fit Colton at $3.5M and will still have $3M to fill 4C (Ben Myers) and 3RW. We're fine for now.

Sign Newhook Already
Must be a fun negotiation for Kent Hughes right now.
As Newhooks former agent, he would’ve told him to chase every dollar he’s worth and not settle for less.
Now as Newhooks GM, he’s now gotta argue with paying him less in an effort to reserve as much cap space as he can lol.

However if Dach can make that first line a top line then we can just keep Monahan for the year as 2C and then develop Newhook as well after we trade Dvorak.. remember you need at least 5 centers as injuries will always strike so with dvorak out to start the season we only have 5 centers and once he comes back someone else might get injured.. more likely that monahan or dvorak get moved at the deadline.

they have a VERY deep prospect pool, but they dont have very high offensive prospect. hopefully next draft they get a top 7 pick again and grab a foward.

Will always be too strong for MTL if they don't try to get better now, meaning providing the current young NHL players with the proper supporting cast to at least start heading towards competition. It seems that's what they are trying to do without rushing things.

Yeah, I felt like the 2026 timeline kind of fit better with us than most, since by then some of these young guys should be starting to hit, but it is what it is.

He was #3 of what I was hoping for. I wanted Fantilli, which I think most ducks fans were hoping for, and Michkov was absolutely someone that I wanted if they skipped Fantilli.
Carlsson is big though, and seems safe. I’m not losing my mind, and I’m sure once the shock passes we’ll all be content. McTavish was a bit of a reach when he was picked though, and he seems to be doing fine.
I’m firmly in the “meh” category this morning.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Just_A_Guess</b></div><div>Idk that CH management really know exactly what the lines are going to be but I believe they're trying to build a high end top-9 instead of just a top 6. Then we're able to roll 3 lines consistently and beef up our 4th to rival any 3rd line out there. I don't really know where Mesar fits exactly yet either and maybe we do package him for someone else but I'm not sure that happens this year.
With the way they're setting cap structure, I don't see free agents in our immediate future. Nylander will was more that Suzuki and KH won't give that. He's likely stockpiling internal options until it's clearly established where everyone fits and who exactly is expendable for the final piece or two.
Laf would actually be a great fit now (don't tell the NYR fans I said that...) but the price is likely too premium. That being said I would be on board if he did swing for it and moved some of our "expendable" prospects for a guy like Laf, assuming NYR would accept a deal with what we had to offer and not request some pieces of the "core" that is being built around.</div></div>
I am betting Roy takes that spot eventually.

I think he needs to be in the top 6 of a team, but I am not sure if he still fits in Montreal's plans, especially given his size, due to the fact they have Caufield, Suzuki, Newhook, Farrell and Kidney.
Caufield Suzuki Slafkovsky
Newhook Dach ???
RHP Beck Roy/Farrell/Kidney
Is Mesar going to be good enough to be on that 2nd line?
Do they go after Nylander (if he goes to free agency or another free agent) to fill out the 2nd line?
Do they package Mesar, Struble and multiple future picks for a player like Konecny or Lafreniere or Dadonov (HA!)?</div></div>
Right now the answer is no. But give Slaf & Mesar this season to show you something before you get concerned. It takes some time to transition from larger ice.

I think HuGo are not only making the team better, but making it more competitive faster.
Who know's what trading up from 31st and selecting Barlow would merit after years of development. But, Newhook is plug in and play with some Dach mystique.
Same at 5th. Reinbacher is already playing pro against men. He's being more productive than Josi was at the same age in the Swiss league. And, has comparisons to Seider. Id don't think we can dismiss this because they hype around Michkov. Furthermore, Reinbacher looks to be NHL ready next year. Whearas, young Dmen usually prime around 24-25 yrs old.
After taking a deep dive into Reinbacher last night. Im feeling better about the pick. We can't dismiss how advanced the rebuild is today. If he was selecting pure prospects we'd be years away from seeing if they were good picks that come to fruition.

Briere going to trade up 2 spot with a package for Hart: Harris, Farrel, 5OA for 7 OA + Hart. At least it would have been fun! So basically MTL decided to be competitive starting in 2024 not 2026 anymore... so we need a big trade IN to take an extra step.</div></div>

Starting in 2024-25 they are expecting to be in the playoffs every year is how I read it. They will free up cap just by not resigning players after this season and then they can hit the UFA market in 2024. Sounds perfect to me.

Could change Chicago's pick to worse quality one but I figured a pick swap by then would probably benefit Chicago, plus Chicago needs players to fill out cap space right now so I don't really see it as a big deal to take on 4.5m.</div></div>
Except with the acquisition of Hall and Foligno yesterday, the Hawks don't have a spot in their top 9 for Hoffman to play in. And he wouldn't be on the #1 PP unit even if he did come to Chicago. Lucas Reichel will be in that right half wall spot. Pretty certain the ship has sailed on any Hoffman to Chicago trade.

I think he'll be back on the Habs within the first month or so though. (Especially with injuries to guys like Gallagher being inevitable)
