Toronto Maple Leafs 2023 2024 Offseason Discussion - Draft Day And Free Agency
I wonder if they give SDA a legit 2nd line chance. He's a top 6 talent or bust. He's got awesome hands and has improved his skating and shot volume. After Nick Abruz. accepts his QA, he may get a shot too. The Leafs may have to rely on prospects this time around, until the deadline.

Post Muzzin next year
The Wings are going into a rebuild and need prospects with upside. Zaitsev is sort of a dump, except he's useful and has term. Bracco is a very skilled prospect with middle-six upside.
I get that Zetterberg's contract is insured, but I'm sure that ownership doesn't want to pay what isn't. It's not like they need the cap space, not for a few years.

Building Within
I appreciate what you have done, showcasing depth (did the same today). I think you mixed up defensive pairings though, as the 3rd pair need to switch sides, and there probably shouldn't be defensemen with the same handedness on the PK if it can be helped.
I think Leivo could thrive as a top winger, but won't happen at $1M. Also, a doubt that Lindholm would sign for the same, he could conceivably make more elsewhere in the NHL, or back in Sweden. I would rather through out Gauthier on the 4th line, or risk playing Brooks.
First world problems eh

I like the Enstrom signing, but I'm not a fan of Barrie, he's worse defensively than Gardiner, meaning it's just a lateral move if not a regression. Vermette is a decent depth player, but Jooris is still in the system. At least with Barrie on the team, Hainsey is moved down the lineup, but Rielly and Barrie may be too similar to be effective, who knows though.

Tearing It Down
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>danielcoe</b></div><div>Well Mr. planner first you need to fine a french Canadien GM who has experience at the NHL level.. and who is available.... which is probably non-existent.. and then you can help molson pay the 20 million(or some such number) that is owed to Bergevin.... Gm make what star players make now so Bergevin is going nowhere this year and if he does a good job with the re-build he is going no where next year either...... go back and look at the regular seasons montreal had two and three years ago when we were supposed to be re-building and then remember why Bergevin got his extension in the first place.... you have opinions but you don't has a feasible replacement who would definitely be better to offset the millions Molson will have to pay Bergevin... reality is not the same as passionate fan talk.</div></div>
I'mean not bilingual, but as a sports fan, I would rather have competency in a different language than ineptitude in my own tongue.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>danielcoe</b></div><div>thank you.. it is so easy to criticize but hard to do better... Bergevin draft record is actually quite good and i believe if we keep stock piling draft picks we will be good very soon but not next year..</div></div>
If he has done a great job of drafing, why does the farm team struggle so much, and where are the homegrown impactful players outside of the 1st round? Mete could be one...

Making Karlsson fit
Thanks for the feedback. It's a tough one. Here's some of my reasoning. The fact that Karlsson is going to leave takes some of the leverage Ottawa carries. The package I sent gives a top 3 offensive defenseman for now, a top defensive prospect for the near future, some young forward depth, veteran Hall of Fame forward depth on his final year (which is almost nothing in real $), a 2019 first to replace the one giving for Brassard, and a 2020 second. That is quite the package for one player who is a glorified rental at the time of the trade.
If Bobby Ryan came back in the trade, it would take away from Ottawa's return, and the Leafs wouldn't be able to make the cap dollars work.
Hyman was traded because of his replaceable traits and more importantly his cap hit. Absorbing Karlsson's cap hit requires cheap roster supplementation, which is where Grundstrom came in.
Richardson was a cap dump really, his cap hit was able to be buried, but Hyman was obviously the better player. Arizona basically did the Leafs a favour while gaining a pick and a player to reach the cap FL.

Good Oil
I got McDavid a winger to help with scoring goals and keep up. Lucia was a bad deal from the start, not gone. Skinner has one year left to see if it works, and there is enough cap flexibility to re-sign. The roster is younger, faster , and more skilled. I'm surprised you hated it.

Well, you added actual center depth and toughness, you also became slower and older . Getting a 1st from the Isles is probably way too much, they taking on more salary and A liner for goodness sake .
You are consistent in team vision with your draft picks, but I feel they are not the best players available at those spots. The Habs need someone with sense, might as well be you .

I also think Nylander's undervalued here. He's a play driving center. I in believe he was top ten in 5 on 5 scoring. I wouldn't accept that deal, but it is a creative solution to add skill, speed, and youth

Tavares Compatible
I like it. In my opinion though, I think you are assuming the Coyotes won't want to send a player in return, let alone Marleau agreeing to it. They did just trade for Galcheniuk to reach the cap floor. I hope you're right about Marner signing for $7M, his camp thinks he's worth way more.

No sure why adding Spezza and Ian Cole is going big. You have a ton of cap space that isn't being used as well. If you are not going to realistic, use your imagination . Cheers .
