I’m sure we could get a better pick than that for Comtois. The very best a 2nd.

Minnesota probably offers him 5.5 for 6 years then. They would definitely do what they can to try and keep him. After this next season, a couple other players contracts are up, like Zuccarello and that opens up more cap space for them. Ducks would probably have to go through a bidding war with Minnesota if they want Dumba.

And yeah, first rule of Cap friendly street smarts, don't trade with NYR or TML, their fans are never satisfied with the return.</div></div>
What would you propose a long term salary for Dumba? Minny's last contract with him was $6 million. I for sure think he would want more, question is how much more and for how long?

While I admit, this is better than mine, Dumba isn't taking that much of a paycut. I think the Ducks could give him the Klingberg contract. 1 year $7 million, Trade him at deadline for a possible 1st round 2024 pick and retain 50%.
I wouldn't offer Martinez anything, nor would I give Vegas any picks after they screwed us over with Dadanov. I'd rather give a 6th or 7th to Boston for Forbort.
Lastly, I'd get rid of Comtois and Carrick and not re-sign Shatttenkirk.

New Coach New Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>I'd keep him on the roster over Carrick, and I question why you have Silfverberg playing on the 2nd line.
Two rookies, a guy coming back from a completely missed season, a waiver claim, and what remains of Shattenkirk is not a defense that a new coach fixes. We need a Dumba/Mayfield type RHD, and a Graves/Orlov type LHD, or at least bring Kulikov back to babysit Drysdale, as Fowler is no good at it, and the two of them together are probably the softest D pairing in the league.
Helleson needs to partner one of the studs in San Diego this year, Shattenkirk can stay third pairing with LaCombe if desired</div></div>
Comtois is at the end of his RFA contract and I’m not sure I want to go through the trouble of arbitration for him. Carrick only has 1 year left on his contract and we probably won’t re-sign him once his contract is up. Either Silfverberg or Carrick is on the 2nd line, I just went with Silfverberg.
I’d subscribe to a Dumba/Graves or Mayfield/Graves type of defensive pairing. But I’m not sure I’d want to give them a 2-3 year contract if it’s possible that Mintyukov, Zellweger, and Luneau are ready for the jump to the club.
I think Helleson and LaCombe is a great 3rd pairing. I’d give them a chance this season. Plus we burned a year off LaCombe’s contract so this would be his last year. Under his current contract.

That defense is going to get caved in though, we need some more time for Helleson and LaCombe to develop in the A, we can afford to buy a couple guys.</div></div>
That’s the best value we are gonna get for Comtois based on his recent play.
As for our Defense outlook, if Mintyukov, Zellweger or Luneau are ready to be a part of the club, there’s a spot for them. Also I would say Eakins and his philosophy is the reason why our defense sucked. Once we get a good coach, I think this defense will be average. But I’m also not opposed to getting another legit LHD from the FA and having White as our 7th D-Man

Vegas is going to be in Cap Hell for a bit. They’d have to move like almost half their roster to afford Matthews. I think any team willing to do anything to get Matthews is Arizona.

Verbeek would hang up the phone instantly. Thanks for the chuckle there though. But I don’t want Columbus players. Zegras is fine where he’s and we are building our core atm with the young players we have and the young players we are bringing up. Good try though, but this would never happen.

We don’t need anymore LDs we already have plenty. We have no RDs atm besides Helleson and awaiting re-signing Drysdale. This would not benefit the Ducks here at all.

I think Arizona would take it, even with 50% salary retained. Maybe not a 2nd rounder but possibly a 3rd or 4th. Which is something.

Question about Matthews value to a team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KentMcNally</b></div><div>Why do you say that?
I would not want Matthews on my team either because I think he is a choker, but Zegras, Matthews and Fantilli down the middle for Anaheim makes it interesting to consider. What do you think are the flaws in the trade?</div></div>
The Flaws are we would give up too much and we are not giving up some of our young core for 2 years of Matthews. We are taking our time building up the core we already have. While Zegras, Matthews, and Fantilli would be nice, it’s a pipe dream. We still have to re-sign Zegras and Terry and a couple other RFAs. Matthews would not fit our time frame. I think the team you’re looking for is Arizona. Arizona would gladly trade with you and bring Matthews home. I would even think they would give up possibly thwir 2 1st rounders in 2023 or at least 1 1st rounder in 2023 and one in 2024 for Matthews.

Verbeek would gladly take that for the Ducks. Then we can trade Murray for another pick probably in the 2nd round to a team that needs a goaltender. Possibly Arizona.

Offseason Change up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoVaSpartan</b></div><div>You really think the Ducks aren't on the rise? I felt that they aren't too far away from the playoffs. Maybe another year or so but with Vegas, Vancouver, San Jose, and Seattle all either in limbo or on the brink of tearing everything down, I thought that Anaheim could be battling to sneak into the playoffs behind Calgary and Los Angeles. (maybe they fight Edmonton, but the oilers lack a concrete plan at goalie). I don't know how much more is truly necessary for Anaheim, other than a new coach imo
Even if they aren't, keeping Gibson would be better to develop Clang and Dostal into top tier goalies.</div></div>
We still employed Dallas Eakins for another year and he’s not an NHL Calibre coach. At this point we are acquiring picks and young prospects to prepare for the future. Maybe we aren’t that far away but I’ll believe it when I see it. Maybe once we get a better coach that wants to help this team succeed. The reason we extended Eakins cause no good NHL calibre coach is available right now. I just hate to see Gibson waste his career here when he has a chance at a cup. We aren’t there yet and might not be there for another couple years. Might as well get prepared now.
