Jeannot is not worth that, it’s not Buffalo‘s fault Tampa overpaid to get him in the first place. You don’t pay that price for a fourth line winger. I would bring him in for a fourth round pick alone, otherwise just get someone better in free agency for nothing.

Buffalo can sign 2 4th line players in free agency without giving up any assets. Why would they make this trade?

There are at least 10 players Buffalo is not trading for him, Peterka is one of them.

If it’s a player they think is better for their team a bidding war starts. Patches hasn’t been anything since he left, as well as coghlan. Let’s talk about how Smith fetched a 3rd or Haula for Roy. What about Gusev for a 2nd and 3rd lol</div></div>
Well, Vegas has also been burned on more than a couple deals. But who hasn’t? What I find impressive is that Brendan Brisson is the first 1st round prospect that they haven’t traded away. I don’t know who else among their prospect Pool is ready to be promoted. It doesn’t look like you have much left that is NHL ready right now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CoachCoach</b></div><div>That is fine, in my opinion this is the difference between a guy like Roy and a guy like Fabbri. Fabs is a good player, FO% is great, nearly 20 goals, compete.....but has the injury history (non-existent this year) and is deemed a "dump." Meanwhile his contact is fine as most players this off-season will be overpaid and for long term, whereas he is only sitting at 4M (or 2 if retention) for just next season, limiting the risk. If he gets hurt again, LTIR.
Roy on the other hand is a bargain at 3M, and is secure at that hit for more than one season. That value far exceeds what will be comparably found in FA. In THIS situation, I don't care if it helps Vegas because it ultimately benefits me (speaking as that team).</div></div>
I just don’t expect teams to get into a bidding war over Vegas’s players. They may put up offers, but I don’t think they’ll be eager to beat one another and raise the price. Unless they see that guy as a must have, I just don’t see it.

Vegas has six or seven roster spots to fill next season with about $18 million to do it, but that also does not count any RFA that needs to be resigned. That’s assuming they let every UFA walk. They are going to have to do a little salary cap mambo, and I don’t think anyone will be eager to help them.

I see you’ve gone to some pains to turn Buffalo into 1/4 Vegas. I always liked McNabb, but I’m not sure bringing him back is exactly what we’re supposed to do. The left side isn’t the problem right now, and giving up Samuelsson for a rental is a dumb idea. I’m not saying that he won’t be traded, but the odds are against it unless the player you’re getting is a long-term keeper as well.

You’ll have to hope for a bidding war for his services. Personally, I hope no one wants to help you. And frankly, there’s no reason they should. Everyone knows eventually if no one offers anything you like it will force your hand. Kind of like when you had to include Coghlan with Pacioretty to move that contract, and got basically nothing back. The trouble you have is that most teams in the league don’t exactly have a lot of money lying around, and most would need a cash in and cash out kind of deal. I think you may be disappointed with what you actually get back in return for Roy, and what else they will have to do to be cap compliant for next season.

Couturier
Forget Ehlers and Couturier, that contract is poison, even if they did eat a good chunk of it. Imagine paying $5 million a year to a guy who may top out at about 40 points, and that’s if he stays healthy over the term of the deal. He just hasn’t been the same player since his injuries, Philly either has to eat that contract or buy him out because he’s just not worth that money anymore. Besides, if you are bringing in Drury you don’t need Couturier.

Vegas is going to have to get creative to be cap compliant next season. That includes if they are prepared to let Marchessault and Stephenson walk. They may be counting on teams to outbid one another for Roy, but who wants to pay an average third line Center $4 million except Vegas? Good luck.

A team with grit
Any trade sending Tkachuk to Buffalo would involve Peterka, as Ottawa would be obsessed with reuniting him with Stutzle. But the additional pieces they would require to make it worth it for them would be more than he’ll ever be worth. If Buffalo wants to bring in a power forward to add to the core of this team, they’ll spend a lot less just targeting a guy from a western conference team instead.

That’s pretty much what I expected. He’s not going to produce points, but that’s not what you brought him in for in the first place. The little that I did see him in the playoffs this year (I only watched a couple Toronto/Boston games so far) he looks to be doing exactly what you wanted him to.

Dream team 2
The funny thing is, if this trade were proposed on draft day when Ostlund was taken, Buffalo jumps at it and Florida doesn’t even consider it. Now I think they at least think about it. Lundell has been decently productive, but Ostlund could be just as good and you’re giving an extra couple draft picks to a team that needs to get younger soon.

Many Sabres fans here think that Skinner is cancer and we have to get rid of him. I’m in the minority it seems, understanding that he doesn’t need to go anywhere. Aside from the fact his full no movement clause means he can just say no to a trade anywhere. It doesn’t do Buffalo any good to burn money and get nothing for it, and late firsts don’t do much for a team with a loaded prospect pool. This just doesn’t work for Buffalo.

As much as I like what you’re thinking you are over the cap, and Matt Roy is making about $2 million less than I expect him to get. Add to it that I expect Luukkonen will get at about double what you’re paying him here.
What is the solution? For starters, Talbot won’t cost that much. Maybe you can talk Matt Roy into taking $5.5 million instead of six, but he’ll never sign for what you’re thinking. And if they’re going to bring in Konecny, they probably make another trade to drop another contract.
