I like the Myers trade and agree with the signings. However, the red flag I see is that Laine and Connor are FA after this year. With a little over $2 mil of cap space, resigning both (essential) seems impossible. Laine is worth around $9-10 and Connor probably $5-6 (assuming his goal production is high again next year).
I imagine Wheeler will get similar money but around $6.5-7 range.
Possibly consider trading Roslivic and Perrault and/or Kulikov to get cap space. Maybe also consider only resigning Stastny to a 1-year deal to have more flexibility for following year.
Overall though I like this layout.</div></div>
I can't believe I just read that! In what regard points or playing actual defense?

Should have signed him as an RFA but created...no difference but whatever. The main thing to this though is that your RHD depth and future is greatly screwed by moving Trouba for a LHD. Myers might be out next year, Buff then 2 years left. Poolmans good but there are no good RHD in the pipeline.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>whoa, whoa, whoa...don't hang up the phone just yet...we can still figure something out...
couple more questions...your $5.5m extension for Myers...is that considered his asking price? Would he not be looking for a bit of a raise or is that not justified?
Also...what do we need to add to Kapanen to upgrade to Buff? Age and contract are less desirable but he's a presence on the back end the leafs need.</div></div>
you won't like the answer to the question what needs to be added because, realistically with the season and the playoffs buff is having...his stock his very high despite the things you've listed. He's playing like a 7.6M dollar D right now. Myers is having a much better year this year (obviously) but the Jets are going to need to Shed some CAP. Mason, Myers, Kulikov, Perrault (in that order) will likely be the sacrifices made in order to sign the likes of Laine, Wheeler, Trouba etc...
And no offence to you True North, but the Jets would look to move Myers especially since Poolman can replace him at a 5th of the cost. If they didn't have a cap crunch coming, then maybe but they do so don't be surprised to see him gone next year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>I dont see why Avs would trade Makar and a 2nd just to get Hanafin. Would rather just keep on to makar and see him develop.
Avs get sort of screwed on this deal</div></div>
The reason you do that is because lets face it, Makar though having high potential is unproven at the NHL level. He could end up being a bust still so you make the move to get a proven NHL player with certainly top 4 and/or top pairing caliber signed to a reasonable deal long term. Its a sure bet for COL. If anything the Jets are taking the biggest gamble trade wise but their reasons are CAP and depth based as all of their D prospects are LHD essentially and they're not going to be drafting in the top 10 (likely not anyways) for a while so the only way they'll get a top level RHD prospect is to trade for one.

I'd take Noah Dobson, Evan Bouchard, Quentin Hughes, or Bodie Wilde and probably in that order. All depends whos available and if anyone drops from higher up. I'd try and package to move up for Boqvist but doubt the cost would be worth it as I see any one of those guys being better anyways.

Petan does need a new team, he'll never crack the Jets top 9 should they ever go that route. Connor is 17G-15A-32P in 47 games this year. Thats a solid rookie performance plus there's a 1st and 2nd round picks NEXT YEAR!

I'm being optimistic for sure, but you're being pessimistic! Sure he's got ARB rights, but realistically how many times have players of his caliber gone to arbitration and have seen the process through. I can't think of one actually? He may still want out but he's not going to make it to arbitration is my guess. Besides winning changes everything!

Trust me Roslovic is the one guy I'd least like to trade but I think you're right too and that's the cost especially if Buf is retaining on ROR. That said though, what's a shot at a Stanley Cup worth? I'd give up almost anything for a CUP or even to make the finals. ROR makes us an instant contender for the next few years at least!

The idea is good but the legality of it might not make it feasible. I don't think (could be wrong) you can sign and trade a player while retaining half the salary of the expiring contract. League likely doesn't allow that but who knows?

Deadline Load-up
I really, really don't want to trade Vesalainen, but I do want to bolster the lineup for a cup run (this year and next). Patches, Hoffman, Simmonds are the ideals and if it takes Vesalainen + + + to get one I'm in. This is a very realistic value trade wise and although it's not MTL's ask of "a Top Young Scorer + a 1st" they'd have to think about it for sure as Vesalainen could be that and Petan is a very skilled playmaking C.

WPG scouting OTT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HoffmanisKing</b></div><div>Acc im not LarkinisKing. And what i meant was that STL has a lot more assets to offer for hoffman. And how is that fair value for Hoffman? Your giving two not so good prospects, a old winger that can barely stay healthy and never puts up points, and a probably late first round pick. No thanks.</div></div>
Vesalainen is not a "not so good prospect" he's actually a very good prospect who's doing very well in a Mens league over seas (2nd on team scoring and if he didn't play 9 games last year would be leading rookie scoring) at 19 in a Mens' league. Stanley is a bit of a project and might need a year or two yet but jury is still out on whether or not he's "not a good prospect" just yet. Mattais you're right...is an absolute CAP dump said as much above. A late 1st is still a 1st and would give OTT 2 this year or maybe more if they move Karlsson. The 1st you'll get from STL will be in the same range so...there's that too. Again you're going off assumptions that STL has actually made an offer better than that.
Historically these kinds of trades NEVER bring back as much as the fans assume they will.
-TJ Oshie with 1.5 years left got Brower, Copley and a 3rd
-Kyle Palmeri got a 2nd and a 3rd in trade to NJ
Those are two similar circumstances with wingers producing similar point totals and their returns. The Oshie deal is the most comparable and Brower, Copley and a 3rd is NOT AS GOOD as Vesalainen, Stanley, Mattais and a 1st. Wonder why it is fans always think deals cost more than they really do!

Also that hurts the jets cap situation going forward and you are giving up a ton (3 1st round picks) to get a piece you don't need. If the jets need something its a depth dmen and a centerman.</div></div>
There's no real C's available that are good, this scenario has them Keep Wheeler at C to fill that need, then replace Wheeler with a top 6 winger. It makes perfect sense really since Wheeler has actually already been playing as a #1C in Scheifeles absence. The depth D-man piece is another story and I agree with you...whatever keeps Chiarot out of the lineup will make me happy.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spanky227</b></div><div>I wasn't stupid enough to ask for a first as well as Ves. I'll admit the third round pick was a reach. Grabner is on pace to be a 30 goal scorer and many of his goals have been clutch goals.. even if some are empty netters, they put the game from 1 to two goals in the final 3 minutes (depending on when the goalie is pulled) which is huge because it almost guarantees a win. He is a 20-25/year goal scorer with a boost (5-10 goals) from empty netters. If you look at past history, depth players with worse stats have gone for more (eric staal went for a good prospect and two second rounders, hanzal went for an absurd amount, but usually the ask is a first rounder. assume there is (and probably will be) a bidding war for grabner if his name is put out there)</div></div>
I'll be clear again...I like Grabner and would absolutely target him. I'd even give up a 1st to get him. He's not worth Vesalainen and a 3rd though and I stand by that. He may have 18 goals, but he's only got 4A's so that's pretty telling. Also the Jets have a younger version of him in Brandon Tanev he's just not as good and if the Jets are going to trade Vesalainen, it'll be in a deal where they package their 1st, Vesalainen, + "X" for 1.5 years of Pacioretty or Hoffman or Simmonds etc not for Grabner.

WPG says no. Sorry I'm a actually a fan of going after Grabner but he's not worth last years 1st rounder and another pick. He's a 3rd liner. Those go for a lot less. Change the pick to a 1st + Vesalainen and you might get Pacioretti from MTL based on what the rumored ask is.
A more realistic trade for Grabner would be Dano+3rd

we have an insider among us!!! Tell me what's been offered from STL "MANAGEMENT" group for Hoffman????? I'd love to know what deal to match! I see "larkinisking" has changed his name and affiliation.
In any case you know nothing about what's actually been offered you're going off what fans of STL have hypothetically offered who have no authority. Also, every year there's deals that seem WAY undervalued that get done so to say you're getting better offers when the player hasn't been traded is asinine. The deal above is absolutely fair "market" value if you do your actual homework at trades that have been completed as opposed to purusing hypothetical deals on fan boards.
