<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>Not sure why the Rangers would trade him to the same conference or settle for less than a 1st....

Would assume that one of San Jose, Calgary, Edmonton or Minnesota would be willing to pay a 1st to get their #1 goalie for the foreseeable future. He's in the same position as Andersen, Jones, Schneider and Grubauer were.</div></div>

I would argue that he is not in the same position as Andersen, Jones, Schneider and Grubauer were.

Andersen was a good STARTER for Anaheim. Gibson came in and was as good/better and younger so they had no more room for Fred.
Jones posted a 1.99 gaa and a .923 sv% in his 34 games prior to being traded, compared to Georgievs 2.95 gaa and .916 sv% in 56 games. Jones looked WAY better before the trade
Schneider was a known ELITE goalie prospect and had spend 3 seasons splitting time with Luongo (who at the time was team Canadas starting goalie). He also posted a 2.20 and a .917 which is similar to Georgiev, but still noticeably better.
Grubauer is the most similar to Georgiev, but note that the trade for him involved the salary dump and buyout of Orpik. So the true value of Grubauer was not even a 2nd rounder.

To show that I am not completely biased, Giorgiev does have some things over those comparisons.

He is the youngest of all 5 of them so he has longer to improve still.
He is playing on by far the worst team of any of those comparables. I think Andersen is the only goalie u mentioned that didn't go to a cup final while they were there.

At the end of the day Georgiev is worth what someone will pay for him and of the teams you mentioned, Minnesota will not be trading their first since they suck and wont risk losing a lottery pick. San Jose doesn't have their first next year. Calgary and Edmonton both could make this trade returning a 1st, but Edmonton tried this (trading to promote a backup) with Talbot (coincidentally from the Rangers) giving up a 2nd and 3rd, and it didn't really work out.

Basically, I dont think it is unreasonable to ask/hope for a 1st in return but I wouldn't expect it. This trade is very good considering Bracco is a borderline A tier prospect and the 2nd could be an early 2nd the way things are going for the leafs this year. Add in the 4th as a kicker and this trade should be very enticing for the Rangers.
