I was hoping they'd go longer with Pionk, he's worth it and have heard he likes playing in Winnipeg, he's young enough to go at least six years with, not sure what that would've bumped his AAV up to though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueNorth</b></div><div>I truly appreciate what Copp and Lowry do for the Jets both short handed and even strength. Forwards get paid premiums for putting up points but Copp jest plays the game the right way. In a normal year I don't think he has that season.

Would love that Pionk contract, the Copp deal not so much, really don't think he's a $4M player.

The Pionk deal would be great, but I'd like to see either a little less dollars for Copp or less term.

No way they get close to the cap lol. Probably 10-15 mill under imo. They’ll take a couple of big contracts with 2-3 years left and pickup a couple of 1sts but that’s it

I like the term on Pionk and the trade value for Risto. But I think Buffalo might want more. I think if Forbort comes back it would have to be around 2.5 mil

Give Hamilton his 8M
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooney</b></div><div>I'd gladly give Hamilton $8m...but I think he comes in higher than that. Unless WPG massively overpays, I feel like there isn't much a shot at landing him with more desirable locations being in the mix.</div></div>
I am as critical of the Jets GM (and coach) as much as others from the outside looking in because he seems to never really make moves or improve his team (every year they are wasting mvp performances from their goalie), but there always does need to be that qualifier that they will never be a big free agency destination. Now that can often be a blessing, seeing as how many overpay for UFAs, but even maybe trading for a player with a few years left changes the equation when you think the player will not resign.

Exactly man! It can be a blessing and a curse when it comes to UFA's, I also agree that the trade market for players with a couple years left on their deals is something we should explore more than we do.

Give Hamilton his 8M
What we know about Hamilton:
He’s by far the best UFA Dman this off-season.
Great offensive skills, good defensive skills.
He isnt Pieterangelo.
He marches to his own drummer.
About 8-12 teams are kicking the tires.
Is he worth $10M, not a chance in a flat cap world. Will he sign for over $8M, possibly, but not necessarily. Will the Jets need to overpay, for many players yes, as they would prefer to golf on their off days. For Hamilton, who knows.
Overall, I do like this off-season, though I would swap out Prefetti for a veteran bottom 6 option to help on the PK. I think Cole should get called up late in the season, for the stretch/playoff run. I don’t think he’s ready in October for Top 6 minutes.

Classic Chevy offseason
Its not really an exaggeration though, Chevy needs to be more active in building out this team and gets a free pass far too often for not doing anything, if the draft and develop model is so important to the smallest market team in the league then stop signing plugs and retreads that block younger and more talented players that you drafted BUT if you really need to sign some vets at least sign the better/useful ones.

Wonder if Montour would've helped this D core post TDL, surely he would've been more useful then Jordie Benn was!!
Not sure if he's really the dman the Jets need going forward as he's another slight/smallish guy but he's rhd which is a need, can't see any team giving him $4M though, if the Jets could get him for around
$2-2.5M he might be worth signing.

Jets moved up in the draft to get Stanley and since Stanley is 6'7" he has a higher ceiling than DeMelo:) . DeMelo is fortunate that WPG does not have 2 Top 4 RHD otherwise he would be on the 3rd pairing. And at $3 mil pretty expensive 3rd pairing. This being said WPG still needs to fill the #1 RHD spot but it would be after the expansion draft.

I think Seattle will take Appleton, DeMelo, or Berdin by themselves before Niku and a 3rd. Losing Appleton would be a bigger loss so I would try to convince Seattle to take DeMelo plus a pick or Harkins.

I can see us getting another vet winger for the 4th line...use Gus as the 4C. I didnt mean to use Vesalainen as the 2LW but more to show who is signed for next year.

Poolman has been better than Ghost and makes a lot less cash
I like Patrick so maybe a deal involving Veselainen makes sense

Flyers fan here. First of all, Ghost is essentially dead weight. We put him on waivers and no one claimed him. As for Patrick, while I do agree he needs new scenery, a 2nd and Niku would enough on its own. He's been nothing short of terrible. And to add Vesalainen? Jets could get much, much more value for these pieces. They could easily get a Josh Manson type player for this and a Middle 6 forward. I haven't seen what Fletcher would be asking for in specific for Patrick, but I'd assume it would include a middle of the line prospect (preferably Right Defense) in their early 20s and a mid round pick.
And you're right, he played on the right side that year.
