In what world do the Oilers want a goalie tandem of a way-past-his-prime Lundqvist (doubt he comes here anyway) and Jon Gillies?

Trade Rumors plus some prospect depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BornInAGretzkyJersey</b></div><div>EDM should have 2.5M or less to spend on a backup. So Dell or better. Holland hasn't yet ruled out bringing back Mike Smith, unfortunately.
At $3M or less a competent 3C should be available as a UFA (think: J. Larsson, Haula, Koivu, etc) or in a trade (Derek Ryan, Turris, Sutter (please no lol), Bozak, etc).</div></div>
Funny you mention Dell, that was my thought as well after you replied haha
Out of the players you mentioned, I'd be most interested in Haula (by FA) but I don't know who we could trade (fairly) for someone like Turris or Bozak. I already know Ryan or Sutter would not be good here lmao

Trade Rumors plus some prospect depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BornInAGretzkyJersey</b></div><div>Benning is a great 3RD, but you've massively over paid him. More like $1.75-2M x2.
Bringing back Sheahan is merciless insanity. He was -20 at 5v5, and the single biggest spot to upgrade on the roster.
As noted, Russell (likely) won't waive for OTT -- his stated preference is a western Canadian team to be close to family.
Lavoie will have a great chance at being Connor's trigger man, but more like two or three years down the road.
Why on earth would you have Rodrigue as a back up when he's never played a single NHL game? He'll probably need more time than Lavoie to make The Show. Konovalov is closer, and he'll need another year to burn off his KHL deal. Need a one year stop-gap for a backup.
Just some thoughts that come to mind when I look over your roster. :)</div></div>
To answer the backup question, I'm completely guessing with Rodruige, maybe he plays a few games, maybe he doesn't. I wanted Konovalov but like you said, he's a year out on his contract and I'm not sure who the Oil could reasonably bring in as a backup
Benning... I don't know what I was thinking, I did not mean to give him that much. I will update
Sheahan, he's a good PK guy and I'm sure Holland could find someone to replace him in terms of 5 v5, but I don't see him doing that (I had Mikael Granlund on a 1 year deal previously, but I doubt he signs)
Russell, I did not know he said that. In that case, yeah, I don't see him waiving especially at his age

Fair, to be completely honest, I don't think Melnyk would let Dorion do it anyway because cap hit

Overpaid? Yes, but not horrible. It was good for us last year (just made some changes), plus Sheahan and Archibald are wicked on the PK
Trust me, if there was a reasonable way to get rid of Neal or Kassian, I would

Even if it is likely, I don't think Holland is that incompetent at asset management. He'll get something, he managed to get Tyler Ennis for a 5th (just sucks he got hurt)

Getting some draft picks backConnor help
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>I’m not against trading nurse but it would be to add to teams goal total but work around Neal for another year. The 20-25 goals even if all on pp isn’t production that should be completely dismissed when “dumping” his contract. Needs to be replaced and in this case your adding tuch to the offence will he not only replace that but justify the loss of nurse? I think right now is a more complicated time to move Neal than gets considered. “Dumping” Neal and using cap in free agency is different story because it didn’t cost nurse to realistically just replace subtracted offence. I hope this made sense.</div></div>
Yeah I get that, my idea came mostly from the fact that someone from the farm could hopefully step up to take his place, and Vegas' playstyle fits his pretty well. Problem is, VGK already has a bunch of D men like Nurse- Top 4ish players with maybe top pair upside
Getting rid of Neal will not be easy, and if Holland can get it done in a smart way, he's a much better GM than I

Which EDM could do (up to a certain point), cap wise it's smarter to buy him out at that point but might as well get something for him

Getting some draft picks backConnor help
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>What you did here is give Neal away which understood his contract destroys value whatever but subtracted 20-25 goals from the team to hopefully replace with tuch at the cost of nurse did you really come out ahead with that? I get why people want to move Neal but if you only focus on his contract your going to get lead towards making a costly mistake in the bigger picture. Give him one more year see what he can do with a healthy season burn another year of term then consider the options. Around here people will only look at his contract and foolishly think deserve high end picks to be included. (Not a chance will get)</div></div>
The reasoning behind Neal is that while I would want to give him one more year, this past season he scored 19 goals very quickly (good) and then dropped off a cliff in the second half while also getting PP1 time (not good). In terms of picks, is a 4th really that high? It's quite literally middle of the pack, which is a coinflip NHL player at best. Not trying to argue, just giving my reasoning

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Streeter99</b></div><div>Likely...which means Benning will be shopped. Maybe a package deal with Khaira to land a 3rd line left winger. That won't happen until the offseason though.</div></div>
There is absolutely no way Bouchard plays more than 10 games next year, if that. He's getting one more season in the AHL first
