If they do nothing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Untuxed</b></div><div>Do you mean buyers at the deadline? I think they have a reasonable shot of making the playoffs.</div></div> Sellers to make room for Kulich, Savoie, Benson, Johnson.
There were <strong>12 first round picks</strong> traded near or on the TDL.
Two teams missed the playoffs, 5 teams were bounced in the first round, 4 teams in the second round (Boston traded two first round picks therefore only 11 teams).
<strong>Vegas</strong> made modest moves and traded prospects and a couple of picks, 3rd and 7th.
<strong>Florida</strong> essentially did nothing.
If Olofsson has close to 20 goals, Mittelstadt has nearly 40 pts and Lyubushkin is playing well they would all have value to teams looking to add offense or a RHD.
I am not trading the above players because they are bad, but rather they are good and Buffalo should receive great returns.
They are traded also to bring in two or three players on their ELC so Buffalo has cap space (trading those three and replacing them with ELC will add nearly $7,000,000 of space) to sign current members of the Sabres.
Over the past 7 years Buffalo has drafted really well, they should continue to collect first round picks to continue the making of a dynasty.

EK65 Three Team Trade SEA SJS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Untuxed</b></div><div>Yeah this is my feeling as well, you're probably looking at less than the Eichel package a few years ago. That package was an NHL roster player (Tuch), NHL ready A prospect (Krebs), protected 1st round pick, and a conditional second for Eichel and a 3rd round pick. Karlsson is older and more expensive than Eichel was so realistically it will probably be a NHL roster player, a prospect, and a first for Karlsson with retention and a pick.</div></div>
It's not even a remotely close comparison. This package is useless trash for Grier. He might as well not make this trade. It's not worth the retained salary. I say that as a PIT fan. Tuch is a useful player that was worth at least a 3rd round pick. More now. Carter is a liability that should be LTIRetired. He would require a pick to trade. Krebs is 1st round high ceiling player. Poulin is a low ceiling player that has floundered in the AHL. Nylander is a 4th liner/AHLer tweener. Rutta is a serviceable bottom pairing dman. Might be worth a mid round pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Untuxed</b></div><div>I am going to be honest I am not as well acquainted with Pittsburgh's prospects to know what would be a fair deal but that is probably closer. I also think that SJS might want more picks/prospects instead of an NHL player because they are in a more rebuilding stage than Buffalo was when they traded Eichel. Also I think Grier said he was only willing to retain 20 or 30 percent of Karlsson.</div></div>
EF said it’s closer to 40% than 20% now— I think poulin would be best for you guys. He had a really good development camp and honestly has a chance to see time in PIT this year

Would Granlund + POJ + 1st + 3rd for Karlsson ($4M retained) + 4th work then?

Making the cap work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habsfan771</b></div><div>That Buffalo trade makes no sense for leafs. Brodie is much better than people think and is definitely not a cap dump</div></div>
The issue in moving Brodie to Buffalo is that they have no use for him. Johnson, Clifton, Lybushkin, Jokiharju are all there. Brodie is great, but not sure how much more of an upgrade the cap space gives the Sabres......

I mean... Completely depends what your GM/coach think about handed-ness, especially given the fact that he has history with Granato. What do you mean wrong style? You prefer a dman that isn't big, mobile, good with the puck, and great in transition?

0% chance Buffalo does that. Girardi isn't even the type of D they're looking for and I wouldn't trade Quinn for him straight up even if he was a fit.

Stop trying to get premium pieces from buffalo for an undersized left handed dman which is exactly the opposite of what they need.

Agree on Tuch. Honestly had no clue how to value that trade, not that it matters bc it’s purely a hypothetical thought exercise.
