Well with so many thinking Matthews is getting 15m offer sheet from Arizona, maybe the Leafs need another centre. :) Kadri could play LW, especially with Marleau gone in two years. If the Leafs like Petry for four more years and potential of Poehling, it might be deal.

MTL stay’s compitative and Rebuilt at the same time! Go Berge Go!
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vasken</b></div><div>I don't understand, why is Pacioretty so low-valuable? I'm a habs fan, but still, when I see Nash, Stasny or Tatar trade, I can't agree Pacioretty is only worth a mid-late 1st and B prospect. I mean, come on! Real scouts know the whole MTL team sucked and when given real playmakers, Pacioretty would reach 30g +, again, for the 6th time in 5 seasons. (he did with Desharnais!) He can agree for an extension "with MTL", then get traded if that so necessary, but he's still a top 10 NHL LW. No doubt I'd prefer him to stay and bounce back, then be traded at his real value, but MTL needs a change now. Unless the plan the is to tank. So I think Vilardi and a 1st is just good!</div></div>
You're not comparing the same thing. I see these Patches posts and they are for trades for non playoff team or bare playoff teams....That makes the picks very high.
Now, closer to TDL, Patches might age traded but the team giving up pick is expecting that pick to be 25 to 31 in the first round, not a mid teen or lottery pick.
So, I agree with you if Patches has a good you his value goes up. But for LA to give a last years 10th pick, and the Kings are darn closer to being a lottery pick in 2019, I can't see them giving up so much for one year rental the summer.
Yea, I didn't understand the Tatar trade but it was for 1st, 2nd and 3rd pick....and right now that 1st in 30 or 31, and Tatar still has another year.
Stastny was for the 27th pick, and of course for a was team in a playoff push. I bet we have witnessed very few trades, that a iffy playoff team offers trades a mid first rounder and a possible lottery pick for a a one year rental.
Would Montreal in their current position offer Juulsen and a first rounder for a one year rental?

Just trying for Draisatl
Trade doesn’t work for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that the value is not there for Draisaitl and the number 10 pick in a deep draft. Also Draisaitl is being paid the “Oiler Premium”, and there may be better value available to the Habs through other trade routes, or even free agency. You proposal would give the Oilers 49 contracts. They already have a surplus of goaltending prospects, it’s unlikely Petry would want to go back to Edmonton.

Hey I kind of think the same... Chucky & RNh value are very close...
Chucky makes 55pts scored once 30G without having a decent Center... imagine next to McJesus or DrDrai... he will hit 65-70pts easy...
where RNH never reach that level even playing next to McJ... again RNH get at the same level because he is a real Center... but skill, energy and total points goes on Chucky favor.
Don't get mad at me... it is my fair opinion.
I think to even out, MTL should get another good prospect winger (anyway you don't have room for more good young winger) like Yamamoto?

A draisaitl for 3 is not the worst foundation for a deal TBH.... coming from a 3rd party. MTL would likely need to add but not a ton. EDM could move RNH back to C and finally get McD some wing help with Zadina

disagree on packages being to light in either case..4th overall pick speaks for itself ...top prospect for 27 year old UFA...saving 4.5-7mil a year..probably over payment
AG27 is 3 years younger and 3 mil less on cap....50pt player for 60pt player. fills a need for both
Petry RHD 5.5 mil for next 4 years vs lose JC for nothing cause the can't do 7.5-9 million cap hit.

As an Islanders fan I seriously consider it. Clearing Ladd and Clutters contracts is huge. Petry is a solid add and we get a couple of guys with some potential better than Prince, Quine and Johnston to fill out the bottom nine.

Stars need to re-sign Seguin, or EVERYTHING they've been building for the past few years will have been for naught. They'd be insanely dumb to trade away Seguin, even as a pending UFA. They should do everything in their power to retain him, as they 1C and superstar.

I love that you guys are riffing on the Shaw trade. The Dallas deal requires a lot more scrutiny.
On Shaw, you're all wrong. He's worth a decent second, assuming the Habs are willing to eat some salary, which they would be. So, to get the Nashville pick, be prepare to throw in one of the D prospects or a third/fourth. Simple.

Pacioretty out
I agree but I don’t think Vilardi is the trade, Kings value him to much. It also doesn’t help that every team knows how much pressure and desperation there is MTL to get that piece. That last part actually decreases Patcioretty’S value just because teams know the pinch MB is in.
The most obvious partner for me is Florida. They narrowly miss the playoffs this year, never had a 30 goal scoring winger, and have depth at center. Main target should be Borgstrom, they have Barkov, Trochek, Mcann down the middle, he won’t have room to develop in the NHL. they are looking to make a push with luongo still in net and all their young talent under good contracts to bring in talent, giving them a chance to win

Yep, a team can only use one good centre. So with Pettersson coming, the Canucks are really motivated to trade Horvat:shakehead. For that logic, one star.

I stopped suggesting any deals with the Oilers long ago because it's like dealing with alcoholics who think they're social drinkers. The Oilers have made the playoffs 3 times in 15 years and are about to miss again. The first step is admitting you have a problem. Edmonton fans still seem a long way from that.

You don't think the Habs were offered the same kind of compensation for Pacioretty as Boston gave for Nash? They were, from no fewer than six teams. McGuire would also tell you that Max had also asked the Habs to hold off any trade. He doesn't want to leave Montreal under a cloud and was looking forward to finishing the year strongly. He then pulled his groin and become part of the great writeoff of 2018.
What posters here don't get is that players bring different things to different teams. Pacioretty is a great dressing room influence and a player who can convert feeds from his linemates at a rate only matched by Alex Ovechkin. Draisaitl bangs his teammates sisters and then gets in bar brawls. He has some growing up to do. He is also one of three very good centres on an underachieving, imbalanced team.
Pacioretty has been a captain in a high-pressure market. He might be able to help McDavid to actually lead the team through tough times (I think we can agree that didn't happen this year) That package is what I mean by an "even" deal. For the next 3-4 years (assuming he is signed) Pacioretty will be a more valuable player to the Oilers than Draisaitl will be. It would be the same the other way since Draisaitl is something that the Habs simply don't have.
Oilers would be lucky to have Pacioretty and the Habs would be grateful to have Draisaitl. Don't like the trade, don't take the trade, but don't sprew B.S. from Pierre McGuire, who has made a career out of being the guy every team passes over for GM (Think there might be a reason?).

He's going to get PAID and the Isles cannot reasonably afford it. It's not like Patches puts them over the top and become an instant cup contender. Why would they move a cost controlled 20 year old - who is statistically almost as effective as Patches this season? I know Beau is from MTL but come on, you have to be able to see the bias here. It isn't happening under that structure</div></div>
I doubt you will ever like the idea, since you don't feel Pacioretty pushes you over the top, but you are judging Pacioretty's game on 1 bad year? He was the poster child for consistency in goal scoring before this season. Even then, with no #1 center, he is on pace for a respectable goal total. Pacioretty isn't done yet, but Islander's might not be the best fit.

Depends tbh. Walhstrom looks great, but another winger. Dobson looks like a stud as well and a defender at that which is something we should stockpile. Or if veleno keeps playing the way he is he’ll play himself into a top 10 pick and he’s probably the best centre in the draft. So I’d do Dobson, walhstrom, veleno in that order depending on the what place they actually pick
