Not even necessarily Zucker, just any of our forwards. We have too many roster forwards as it is. I could see us claim one (I'd prefer Sprong, and there is the Pittsburgh connection with Guerin) if Guerin has a trade for a top 6 center worked out. We shall see I guess, and if we have claimed one then I'd buckle up for an incoming trade.

Wild 2 yr Plan
I'd be alright with that Buffalo trade, Nylander is worrying but the skill is definitely there. Overall pretty realistic moves, although I'm not the biggest Chucky fan. Doesn't look like he'll ever consistently be the 30g center he displayed in 15/16. I'd love to get both Nylanders on this team if possible.
I think that Fiala contract is almost exactly what we'll see this offseason. Fenton loves him... I'm not entirely sold yet but if he can minimize his turnovers then I think he'll be a good player. He steals the puck away a ton from the other team.

Fenton, too. Apparently he didn't even offer Granlund to ANYBODY else in the league other than Poile. A lot of GM's didn't even know he was available... I think he basically called up Poile, asked for Fiala, and the trade was done. He's a complete moron. You always ask for high and settle, that's how negotiating works when you're selling something. Also, I've defended the Johansson pick endlessly saying that Flahr was the one that made the pick. Well, Russo has since found out from multiple people that Flahr did not actually make the pick. It's still early to judge, but when a guy like Bokk that fits your needs perfectly (right shot RW) and was the consensus BPA is still available, it makes the pick so much more dumb. I don't mind Leipold as much, I get that he wants to win and it's frustrating he isn't patient (and he definitely meddles too much with GM decisions), but holy sh*t these two are on course to run this franchise into the ground.

You know what they say, **** runs down hill...and Leipold is the one who hired Fenton...
I posed a question on twitter the other day asking if the Wild are the worst run franchise in the NHL over the past 5 years. Most people feel the Oilers and Senators are far worse...but it doesn't take a lot of effort to make a very, very strong argument that the Wild are easily on the bottom 5...and that starts with ownership!

Yeah I'd say Oilers and Sens have it worse. At least Leipold is committed and willing to spend. I do think the Wild have to be closer to the bottom than the top.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNBassman</b></div><div>This is probably the perfect summer for Fenton! Adding a "now" piece in Pavelski a "now and future" piece in Nylander, getting younger on the blue line, and getting rid of Zucker. However, Zaitzev might be adding too much to his value for his playoff performance, so far...but (IMO) Ek is a very nice piece going back the other way to make this equitable. In fact, I really don't know if I love this trade because he is involved...but, would definitely give it a lot of consideration. As you know, I like Ek's future a lot! I know Fenton would never do this, but I would prefer to include Fiala in this deal over Ek. I simply do not like ANY player with effort issues...regardless of how talented they might be...
It will be interesting to see how the Leafs do in the playoffs...that will (obviously) have a big say in what they end up doing this summer...</div></div>
I agree Ek showed a ton of potential towards the end of the year. I think there's a good chance he could be a Koivu replacement after all. That said we need offense and I don't think Ek will ever be that guy. I would ultimately like to keep him but if he can land us Nylander then I say we do it.
On a side note, the lack of knowledge around the league about how good Spurgeon is is extremely frustrating. He'd easily become the Leafs best defensemen (defensively speaking)

By your logic, there would only be ONE #1 D in the world...
You need to know more about Dumba and Spurgeon before you make comments like this! They are both bonafide, legitimate, top pairing defenseman. Reilly is very, very good...I agree...but these two are his equals.

Next Year Keeping SpurgeonZucker
I'm fine keeping Spurgeon, but where does Zucker fit into our future plans? I think Greenway should play on LW or C, not RW, and Zucker should purely play LW. That leaves one of them as the odd man out, and given we need youth that would mean Zucker. Kaprizov is hopefully coming in 2020/21 so that's yet another layer to the problem.

Maybe, but whether Kakko actually will play center or not is a huge question mark. Kakko's game revolves around attacking the net. He's constantly barraging the goaltender trying to either snipe close quarters or bang in a greasy goal. Hughes just fits our needs a ton more, we have guys that attack the net already (Parise, Greenway, Fiala, Eriksson Ek), we need an elite playmaker that plays on the perimeter and can get guys the puck or snipe if needed. That's exactly what Hughes does. He may only be 160 lbs but there's no way he doesn't put on muscle at the NHL level, and he's only 18 so it's possible he grows an inch or two. Even if he doesn't grow height-wise, I still think Hughes can thrive as a center in the NHL.

Agreed, winning any of the 3 lottery picks would be massive. Even drafting Kakko would be huge, but man I'd do everything in my power to trade up and get Hughes. I do think there is a gap between Hughes and Kakko (I view Kakko as the more NHL ready player now, but Hughes having the higher ceiling), but I don't think that gap is very large and a guy like Zucker should be enough to get a team to trade back.

That's not true, Ovechkin doesn't have a house in Florida... Where's your source he doesn't want to play for Q? And where's your source saying he wants to play for a hockey town? Also Florida is a pretty attractive team if you think about it. Barkov is a studly center to play with, they have some nice pieces in Huberdeau, Trocheck, Ekblad, Dadonov, and a bunch of good prospects. Weather is always nice there, plus Miami is a big city with tons to do.

Edit: I also wouldn’t mind them taking Broberg or Suzuki</div></div>
Well if we stay at 11, I doubt any of good centers will be available, so I'd say Caufield. Kid can snipe, his shot is a rocket and he goes to all the right places to score. He's one of the most talented players I've seen but I think he'll get picked outside the top 10 solely because of his size. If he were 3 inches taller, he'd be gone in the top 5. I like Suzuki but if we want him I think we should trade back a few picks and acquire another pick (like a 3rd). I like Broberg too, but we have to get a forward given our scoring issues. My personal preference is to use Zucker and our pick to move up to the 5th-7th pick and grab a center. We need to hit a grand slam at the draft this year since our pool is atrocious outside of Kaprizov. I have the centers ranked as
1. Hughes
2. Cozens
3. Zegras
4. Turcotte
5. Dach
but all of them after Hughes are very close and it switches daily for me. I think Zegras fits our needs the best out of all of them. His skating is electric and his hands are phenomenal. Excellent passer, nice shot, could use some work defensively but he's so smart that I think he could be be a good two-way player. He's a power play specialist too and would basically fill the role that Granlund use to for us by running ours if we drafted him. He'll probably take the most time to develop but I see his upside being higher than any of the other non-Hughes centers. The rest of them are safer picks to me with higher floors but slightly lower ceilings.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>I've seen Kaprizov playing twice when CSKA Moscow has visited here in Helsinki, and he's a freaking beast. Wild will have a heck of a player on him.
For the sake of Wild's future, I hope Kaprizov won't make a Panarin and decide to leave the team because it's too small. Generally, that's what happens in Europe - once a player plays one good season with a not so good team, you almost immediately move to a high-end team that has all the luxury and can pay big money. It happens way too often, and that's why I like the NHL so much more because it doesn't happen there nearly as often...</div></div>
Agreed I've watched about 10 CSKA Moscow games this year to see him play. He's insanely skilled, scored the most goals in the KHL as a 21 year old which is crazy. I think he's going to be a top player in the NHL once he comes over.
Yeah me too. Sounds like he's excited to come over, though. Our GM visited him this past fall and had dinner with him and his dad, and apparently it went really well. His agent, Dan Milstein, has repeated constantly that Kaprizov wants to come play here. Kaprizov has been taking English lessons as well which is encouraging. I guess we better have a competitive team or else he might pull a Panarin, as you mentioned. Good news is that if he wants to play in the NHL he has no choice but to play here for a while.

I have hope Belpedio could play in the top 4 someday, but right now he's a lot like Ryan Murphy was for us: great once he gets into the offensive zone, but not good defensively.
I'm wondering if we could move Spurgeon contingent on the fact he signs an extension with his new team. It'd have to be a ~4 year deal or so with a reasonable cap hit, but we could get a nice return in a trade like that I'd think. Philly seems like a decent fit with Feltcher as their GM.

Calgary doesn't really have any pieces they would be willing to move that fit our needs. Lindholm would be perfect, but no way they move him with his great contract. Yeah I don't live in the cities anymore so I don't own season tickets, but I can see why season ticket holders would be upset. Fenton seems to not understand that players are assets, and you have to seek to maximize that asset in a trade. Even though I like what we saw from Fiala, that trade should have at least come with the Florida 3rd Nashville owns, or another player like Ryan Hartman. Fiala looks like he could be a great player, but we did not maximize Granlund's trade value. The Rask trade was just awful, I don't think Fenton scouted him at all which is plain dumb. You don't trade away players willy nilly without knowing what you might potentially be getting in return. The Coyle trade looks great for now. Zucker trade I probably would have been OK with as an initial reaction, but the more I think about it the more I'm glad we didn't do it. Apparently we tried to trade Zucker for Lindholm this offseason (per Russo) which in hindsight would have been a perfect move for us...
