This entire time I legitimate thought Mrazek only had one year left, jeez what a terrible contract. I think you might be right, best to buy him out.

I was just picking a random team that might need a goalie, I'm also not 100% sure what the payment would be to unload his contract, but the Leafs could also retain 1M and be fine, so that might reduce the cost.

Is quick protect broken in the expansion draft?
Sorry, not sure where to post this. When doing a mock expansion draft, I click on "Quick Protect" and nothing happens, is this a known glitch or am I doing something wrong?

Actually I had intended to put Moore on the 3rd line, then I shuffled things around and forgot. The 4th line is very much in flux, depends on how camp goes.

I just don't think they're going to get a ton of value for Miller. Yeah, maybe the Leafs give up a B prospect instead of late picks, but we're just splitting hairs at this point.

Removals EK65
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jloose</b></div><div>I thought arbitration settles at a 1 or 2 year deal max?
Do you need a 13th F when you have 7 D? either way there's a bit of cap maneuvering that could be done.
I still think Karlsson is the best RHD in the league. need some time to heal up, Toronto doctors + load management and lets go for a run.
alternatively... sign panarin or skinner and trade for a RHD?</div></div>
Arb would be 1 or 2 years at around 3 (+/- 250k), and that takes Johnsson closer to being a UFA.
And of course you need a 13th F, what happens if you're on the road and a guy gets hurt or sick?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jloose</b></div><div>I thought Dallas was starting to lose interest in Honka, its a trade not an offer sheet.
and i don't see Johnsson being too much more than that. we was offered 2x2.1, maybe he gets a bit more through arbitration but not much.
Just barely over the cap. Hyman will be on IR for the first couple months and replaced by a cheap option (marchment/korchkov etc.) that AAV difference will cover the cap.</div></div>
I see the trade for Honka's rights now, that makes more sense...although not sure why they would want Zaitsev.
The Leafs won't want to go to arbitration with Johnsson, and he could easily get closer to 3+ in arb. Evolving-hockey predicts him at 3.7/4, which at least buys one year of UFA, but either way I don't see him signing for less than 3.
And you still need a 13th F, so you're replacing Hyman with an ELC plus adding another ELC. On top of all that, I just don't want to be paying a hobbled Karlsson that much money for that long, it's not worth the risk.

Evolving-hockey's predictions have Johnsson making more but also getting more term (3.7/4 vs. 2.3/2)

Can't trade if you match (for one calendar year), but either way at 6M the Leafs would take the pick and instantly flip it for a player considerably better than Kapanen.

Logical
Connor Brown is not worth a 2nd rounder, you undershot on Johnsson, Woll is not even remotely ready for NHL hockey, and I also have no idea why we would sign Vanek to a 3-year deal when we have ELC wingers ready to call up that can probably play just as well, if not better, than he will at ages 35-38.

Way too low on Johnsson, plus you still need a 13th F and you're already over the cap. Also Honka is an RFA, and Dallas pretty obviously matches that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfalstaff</b></div><div>I like the framework of Marleau and Zaitsev trades (and don't care about the details) and the projected salaries, but could Colin Miller be got with 2 late picks? I thought he was a decent RHD, not some cast off.</div></div>
He was a healthy scratch by VGK, he's making a fair amount of money and they have zero cap space. Now, maybe it takes a 4th and a 6th instead of a 6th and 7th, but it really seems like they would be looking to get rid of him.

The idea with Ottawa is that they have a ton of cap space and need NHL-caliber defensemen. Really, I have no idea where Zaitsev goes, just that he wants out.
As for Anaheim, they're not cash-rich, so they would rather not pay Kesler all that money to not play, whereas Marleau would only cost them $1.25M in real money this year and can help mentor their younger players.

I think we're going to need to of Rosen/Liljegren/Sandin to play third-pairing minutes and a breakout season from Dermott. There's also a situation where Dubas is tired of Kadri's crap and trades him for a defenseman, then we go out and sign a FA to fill the 3C spot.

I was just doing this to show somebody how the Leafs can piece everything together, Girardi could be "Random FA Defenseman," I just picked a RHD that's going to be available fairly cheap.

I just wanted to end an argument with someone who was suggesting the Leafs could/should trade Connor Brown to the Oilers because they have cap space from the LTIR relief for Sekera, and wanted to point out how stupid it would be for Edmonton to put themselves in that spot. Thanks!

I apologize if this has been asked, I tried googling around didn't help and I don't know how to search the forum.
Let's say the Oilers trade for a player with a $2M cap hit, and then Sekera suddenly gets cleared a week later. Do they have to immediately make moves to become cap compliant?
