I'm a wings fan and I really have gotten off the "trade as many players as possible" bus. Jensen and Howard will resign on fair deals, and LGD isn't making that much. Nyquist should really be the only one moved as it stands now, unless some team will take Daley. And that's still only if you can net at least a 2nd plus prospect or another pick. We have a lot of picks and have a logjam on defense in GR, with a couple potential top-6 wings only a year or two away (Veleno, Zadina).

He's a hard worker and deserves a change of scenery. I think moving him for a conditional 6th or 7th would probably be fair and good for both parties.

You obviously don't watch the wings. He's worth a 2nd rounder by himself if a team REALLY needs a RHD. He can move the puck, play on the pk, and skates really well. Slots anywhere from the 3rd to 6th guy on D

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>so we just take Hanzal and not care. ill keep nielson, atleast he can play. please dont take sekera and that contract</div></div>
We'd have to get a 2nd or better to take Hanzal on. He's hurt so much it's not even known if he'll be available in the next years. Nielsen contract isn't that bad that we would have to dump him for nothing. Plus the Wings won't have a for sure, competent 2nd-3rd line center for next year.
Also I love Howard to CGY, but Kronner will retire as a wing at the end of the year. He's already got his cup and should end as a life-long wing.
In general, I think the Wings need an open spot or two for next year on D, as Hronek will be full time in the NHL, and its possible one of Sulak, Hicketts, or maybe even Saarijarvi will be ready. So it'd probably be advantageous to trade Pysyk in the off-season unless he really impresses the Wings.

Anaheim blowup in to a Calgary cup
"As for your evaluation of the prospects included mangi has proven that he can play a fourth line role. He will likely never be more than that
Lazar has been given a ton of chances in the NHL and has massively underperformed. He’s good in the AHL but he can’t transition it to NHL caliber hockey. Maybe after his recent stint in the AHL it will be a different story but he is also a RFA who is likely gonna be looking for a one way contract next season which may result in Calgary letting him go
Finally Dube was also given a chance.( not a good chance but atleast he was given one) it takes a special type of player to play in the NHL at Dubes size and in his time in the big leagues he was manhandled. Although he probably has the largest upside of the guys I included he is extremely unproven as of yet"
That's fair, as I am not a CGY fan and just read about prospects and look at stats rather than actually see them play. Point taken. (I mucked up the formatting sorry bout that xD)

I tend to think that too. Jensen will be affordable for this next contract and should be solid as a mentor for the young guys. Has a great work ethic.

Dube, Magniapane, and Lazar are all players ready to, or are a year away from being able to contribute at the NHL-level on cheap or entry level contracts. Teams that are successful fill out their 3rd and 4th lines with effective players on entry-level contracts (look at Pittsburgh for a great example). That way they aren't handiCAPped in the future when a need arises in free agency, or when they want to make moves at the deadline in future years. How are you signing Tkachuk and Gibson the next offseason, who are both due very big pay raises?
I don't think this would make sense for CGY, even if Perry and Getzlaf were performing at a higher level.</div></div>
Also that 3rd line would have the worst pay-to-performance ratio in the entire league xD

Yea I think this would be a good deal for both teams. That being said, Kronner is going to retire a Wing, so it isn't going to happen. Switch Kronner for Daley and it'd still be a deal if the Habs are looking for defense depth.

selling
I don't get why everyone is on the trade Jensen trade. He'll be a solid, experienced defenseman as the rebuild progresses. He's only 28 and will most likely be affordable (maybe 4 mil). If you trade him, its for a 2nd round and no less. Him and Howard together should be worth a 1st and future 2nd. Or at least it doesn't make sense to take less than that for him in my opinion. And with that being said, would CBJ want to pay for Howard as a rental? They are a fringe playoff team at best, and would be on the outside looking in if they trade Panarin. If they are interested in him that much, just make a run for him in July.
Calgary is a great fit for Nyquist and a 1st is fair for him. Kronwall isn't getting traded and will retire a Red Wing at the end of the year.

Please comment
I don't think shipping out basically all of LA's competitive players who aren't named Doughty or Kopitar is the solution to their problem. There is, in my observation, value in keeping a competitive culture through a rebuild. Look at Arizona, Edmonton, and even to a lesser extent, the Sabres. Their rebuilds have taken way too long because of a losing culture and poor management decisions. The King's need to be selling assets, but bottoming out like that usually stunts growth of young players.
On the flip side, trade Brown now if teams ask. His value only goes down in the next couple years while he's still under contract. He's close to hitting that mid 30s basement and will be at his 2015-16 numbers soon enough.

Blockbuster with Calgary
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Treize131</b></div><div>As a Flames fan I actually like this trade and agree with your point here.
Duchene, Panarin, or Stone are too big of a piece to integrate into this team given what this group has accomplished so far; we've come this far without players like that, so I'm not convinced this is the time to make a huge push for those kinds of players.
I think what's making it too pricey for me is Dube AND Mangiapane. Replace one with Bennett (who really just needs a change of scenery at this point) and I'm much more comfortable.
I'd also be very curious to see what a Nyquist-Jankowski-Neal line could accomplish and I'm a hell of a lot more comfortable with someone like Howard over Smith.</div></div>
I REALLY like this idea. Bennett could fit into the identity of speed and skill that the Wings are trying to move towards. A good move for the Wings that would have a low-risk and possible high reward. Nyquist could ignite that line to where they should be at in terms of scoring. A lot of people outside of Detroit really don't realize how solid he is as a defender as well as having great puck vision. And Calgary could resign him this summer because I think his skillset and high hockey IQ will age well.

If we are being honest, this is a great thread. Johnsson may be a tad over-valued though. I think he's having a career year that is boosted from the fact he's getting good matchups and some powerplay time. I don't think his numbers will stay that high.

If they are moving a package like this, it has to be for one of Stone, Panarin, Duchene.</div></div>
But the question is, does Calgary need one of those three to make a cup run? I was under the assumption they needed depth because they've already got an unstoppable 1st line and solid top 4 d-men. Maybe they can't give up that many assets, but is the essence of that trade (or a similar package) a smart move for the Flames?

BLOCKBUSTER
Looking at this lineup I'm trying to imagine how any team could deal with those 2 top lines! I think it'd be unstoppable, and worth it even if its just a rental. I love this deal as the Penguins realistically probably have 2-3 years left of Stanley Cup contention so might as well go for it while the window is still open. CBJ probably will ask for another future pick though, but if its another 3rd I'd think it'd still be worth it.

I really like the trades except for Jensen. I think he's a solid, prime aged, affordable defensemen who will still be good when the wings are competing again. I think you only trade for a 2nd or better. Also if Calgary or San Jose offer a 1st round pick or a 2nd and 3rd you probably take it. I'd be happy if those moves were made at the deadline!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kaljakori</b></div><div>I get your point, but Zaitsev was a good player, when Babcock was deploying him more as a two-way guy and gave him pp time. He's a defensive anchor right now and he's not suited for that role. He's probably never worth his cap hit, but at his peak he's probably only overpaid by half a mil or so. Johnsson is also a very good young player, who's already past the prospect stage and is both a warm body for the Wings now in the rebuild and will be in his mid-late 20's when they're contending again, so he has all the tools to be a good piece. For the Leafs, giving much more than this isn't optimal, but a guy like Michael Carcone could be still reasonable enough.</div></div>
Unfortunately the Wings have a serious logjam at defense in the AHL. One is NHL ready (Hronek) and there’s another 3 guys that are only a year or two away. I guess I didn’t realize how long Zaitsev’s term was. Holland isn’t going to take that on. If you take off Zaitsev and make it a guarenteed 2nd round this year and 3rd next, I think that’d work though.

It seems like the market for goalies (Bob and Howard specifically) should be better than in years past, but still, goalie markets have been finicky at best in the past. Should the wings sell Howard for less than expected if the 1st doesn't come around? Let's say there's 2nd round pick or 3rd and decent prospect offered by Calgary. Should they just keep him and sign him in the summer as there are no NHL-ready tendys in the system? I tend to side with keeping him if the right offer doesn't come around.
