Why stop here. You’ve got Hague and Whitecloud chilling in the 3rd pair, move Alec’s salary and empty the chamber for Giroux

Don’t love the idea of moving assets just to shed salary, but Vegas also might just be doing this. Could Vegas add Brossoit + a lesser prospect/pick for Anderson? As they need to send out $7-8M once all are healthy.

Sliding under the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Moving Dadonov or Smith, or both, even at a loss, is a better way for Las Vegas to solve the cap problem.</div></div>
True, just looking at different options. Moving Dadonov would help, though would likely require a pick to facilitate it. Smith is a less ideal option as he’s a better player than all discussed and moving him would just kick the cap crunch can to the off-season.
With Eichel, Karlsson slots down to 3rd line. Roy’s and to a lesser extent Howden’s emergence could make moving WK a real idea. If that was the case, would prefer moving him East but there’s also not a lot of choices considering cap.
With all that said, I also don’t expect the team to move him. Martinez makes the most sense to me. But that also comes with issues of finding a team to take on the contract and his 16 team NTC could be a roadblock.

Trade Deadline Sell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ducksfan93</b></div><div>In technical terms he does. the $5 mill from Dadonov comes off the books. Then placing Kesler on LTIR would provide them his full $6.8 mil in "cap Space" (think of the Kucherov method TB did last year). So in theory, it would relieve $11 mil. Something like that. (that is my understanding)</div></div>
Not how it would work in this situation. Acquiring Kesler would not help Vegas’ cap issues. The Kucherov situation was different. That route would be akin to Vegas keeping Eichel on LTIR until playoffs (which isn’t in play).

Realistic guys the Pens can move and RHD targets
Whitecloud is signed at a team friendly number through the 27-28 season. Vegas will likely be cap crunched that entire time. Makes zero sense for them to move him. It would need to be an overpay that wouldn’t make sense for the Penguins.

A team so cap crunched won’t be moving one of their better team friendly contracts. Plus it’s pretty rare to see a player moved shortly after inking an extension.

Fitting under the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BRUINSfansEVERYWHERE</b></div><div>Martinez is a good Dman but Vegas is not dealing from a place of strength. No way they are getting Harrison and a third. Boston also can't fit his cap hit in without a contract going the other way. With all due respect, try again.</div></div>
I was making this scenario based on the assumption DeBrusk is moved, I should’ve stated that. And yeah, there’s a decent chance Martinez returns next to nothing. If he is the one being sent for cap compliance, the limited teams he can realistically be dealt to won’t help his value.

Fitting under the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueCanuck</b></div><div>Canucks have enough wingers available to them, they'd likely prefer a pick for Schenn if he's moved, probably around a 5th or so.
Don't see any incentive there for Columbus. They'll be enough teams interested in Koorpisalo that they'll be able to get a high pick to help their rebuild probably a prospect too.
Absolutely zero chance from Toronto. You either haven't seen Kallgren play or know nothing about him. He's been incredible in his first season for the Marlies playing behind a horrid defence there. He has a strong chance of making the lineup next season for Toronto. Slim chance they're interested in moving him for anything short of an overpay that helps the roster now.
I feel like Martinez has quite a bit more value than that. Not sure why Vegas would wanna move him if they're looking to contend</div></div>
I’d gladly do a 5th for Schenn instead.
I’d also gladly do Janmark/Brossoit for any goalie at $1.4M or less, or even nothing and roll with Thompson. Didn’t think Koorpisalo’s value was that high. So easy pass there.
I haven’t watched Kallgren. Just figured there appears to be a logjam there. Again easy pass then. He wouldn’t likely overtake Thompson in Vegas anyways for backup next year. Can find a cheap 3rd elsewhere to start in AHL.
Vegas needs to shed $7-8M in salary this month, hence the trading of Martinez.
Thank for feedback.

Kesler provides zero cap relief for the Knights. They’re not going to send a 2nd just to shed a salary they traded to acquire months ago.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Datsyukian</b></div><div>Guys, Alec Martinez is NOT a cap dump. What in the world is going on on this site....</div></div>
I disagree. Granted I do think they will get some value, but it also could be a lot less than what it “should be”. Vegas needs to shed $7-8M when all are healthy (~ a month away). The easy call is to send Smith and his expiring contract out. But Vegas’ postseason issues have been scoring, I’d prefer not to weaken the forwards if possible. Also, sending Smith out does nothing for the off-season, we’d still be in cap crunch hell. Especially considering Hague and Roy need contracts. Martinez makes the absolute most sense to ship out now. If you don’t and move forwards instead, then you’re regulating Whitecloud to the 3rd pairing to go with McNabb or Hague. That seems to be bad roster maximization. So yeah. I want Martinez (and Brossoit) moved this month and if it ends up being for nothing, it is what it is. His 16 team NTC could also throw a wrench in maximizing return.

Idealizing tdl 2022 and offseason 2022 season opener
Vegas would likely accept. Though I could also see then getting a better return. Realistically, it might cost Vegas ~a 4th to shed Brossoit, not that his contract is necessarily bad, just their cap situation now and off-season is bad. Alec and him feel like the likeliest cap casualties and there’s a non zero chance the return to send their salaries out ends up being nothing. So Vegas getting a 2nd is feasible.

Vegas declines. Unless Leddy is looking to be stashable on LTIR all the way until playoffs, this won’t help cap situation. They need to shed $7-8M when all are healthy, about 1 month away from that barring any other injuries.

so what do they do next season
Gotta let Smith walk. Janmark obviously also as well. The FO doesn’t like not having a quality backup G, but gotta get Brossoit outta there and let Thompson or some other minimum fill in there. Martinez needs to go. Love him there but can’t regulate Whitecloud and Hague/McNabb to third pair when you’re up against the cap. Coghlan can be 6th D just fine. Then hopefully Hague AAV is $3M, Roy $2.4M. Howden at $900K. If Kolesar will take 800K cool, or just replace him with a minimum guy. Sign Hutton as final depth or any minimum salary.
Pacioretty (7) - Eichel (10) - Dadonov (5)
Marchessault (5) - Karlsson (5.9) - Stone (9.5)
Stephenson (2.75) - Roy (2.4) - Patrick (1.2)
Carrier (1.4) - Howden (.9) - Kolesar (.8)
Amadio (.763)
Hague (3) - Pietrangelo (8.8)
Theodore (5.2) - Whitecloud (2.75)
McNabb (2.85) - Coghlan (.763)
Hutton (.75)
Lehner (5), Thompson (.767)

This scenario really just called for the cheapest possible backup goalie. Anderson being the best, I’d toss in a 5th to make it happen or just go Janmark to any team with a goalie making $750K

This scenario assumes that Debrusk is moved in conjunction. Haula sliding into his 3rd line LW slot here.
